  1. Well, having to search the forums for new posts would definatly be a drag! I could see how easy it would be to miss something. Why can't it be fixed like it was before when you were sent a notice so you could get them aproved so much easier and with out any real hassel?
  2. Welcome to Xisto Jay! I'm sure if your into graphics and all that other computer stuff you have definatly come to the right place. We seem to have a lot of really talented folks here, I see some really cool signatures and other stuff here that I only wish I could make myself!
  3. I guess I'm one of the few hold outs that have not sighned up for face book. A few days ago I was visiting with a friend of mine, in person too, not on the computer, and she was telling me about another friend of theirs that works on computers. She said that at least half of his business comes from fixing up computers that got viruses from face book accounts. So until they make it safe to use, I'm not going anywhere near that site. I have enough computer problems as it is without going looking for them.
  4. It's been several days since I made a post on this thread http://forums.xisto.com/topic/72991-public-education-welfare-system/ I usually try to avoid forums that need a moderator to aprove the post, but it's been so slow here and so little to discuse, I thought I'd at least give it a try. Time is money, and I really hate wasting either. Hate to loose a post after spending the time and effort making it. What do I need to do to get this one up? At least I saved a copy of it so I wouldn't have to retype it.
  5. The Americans with Disabilities act is a lot more than just providing wheelchair ramps and easy access to all public places. Some of you probably already know that the blind are allowed to bring in their seeing eye dogs into restaurants and other establishments that otherwise do not allow pets. It has long been established that owning pets is actually good for our health. Studies indicate that people with pets live longer, and have less problems with the host of diseases that plague their non pet owning counterparts. The reason pet owners are healthier are also quite varied. From the fact that they get more exercise from walking dogs, to the fact that being exposed to the bacteria off the animals leads to a stronger immune system. And there is the emotion and mental health benefits, as pets relieve loneliness and provide companionship. Also, let?s not forget the growing number of service dogs that actually and actively provided assistance to their owners, from the dogs that alert their owners to oncoming seizures to those who can pick up objects dropped or alert the person to someone knocking on the door or the telephone ringing. Unfortunately, there is a large part of our society that cannot benefit from the pleasures of pet ownership due to their housing situations. Many apartments and other rental properties have no pet rules prohibiting the people from having pets. To this end, a non-profit organization has been established. Pets in Condo?s is riding to the rescue of would be pet owners. They have a comprehensive web site with information about the health benefits of pets and a great deal of information of what you can do to make your home a place that will allow pets. You can find more information on their web site http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ law actually prohibits discrimination against those who have service animals to help them in their daily lives. In most cases, it does not even require excessive documentation to prove that your dog is a bona fide service animal. You can find sample letters and other information as to what is needed at the web site provided above.
  6. I can certainly see where public displays of affection would be a problem in your case. Unfortunatly there are still a lot of straight people that would prefer it if ya'll had stayed in the closet. But there are so many other things you can do to spark up your life. I don't know who does the cooking in your situation, (Hubby and I actually take turns) But cooking your partners favorite meal is one idea. LOL, as they say, the way to a man's heart (and that is ANY man) is threw his stomach. Candles, favorite music in the back ground, or the favorite movie keyed up and ready in the DVR, all together can set a very nice mood. If he is not into flowers, what about other small gifts, you don't have to spend a ton of money, just be observant. Ever hear him say, "Gee, I'd like to have one of those" and keep it in mind, to surprise him with later. The other ideas of traveling is good too. And you can pick events that occur in and around your area, like concerts, sporting events, that sort of thing. Just yesterday we were traveling to deliver a puppy when we stopped for gas I saw a poster for an event at a sports bar where that cool guy that plays on all the Police Academy movies is making an appearance. You know, the one that makes all those so cool sound effects with just his own voice? I think he's really neat. Anyway, if my hubby didn't have a rock for a head, he might of noticed me mentioning it and tried to get tickets to see him secretly and surprise me with them. Of course, I'm dreaming here, but it would of been very neat thing to do.
  7. Maybe this project is about more than you think it is. Maybe it's a life lesson, aimed hopefully at the team leader. If he choises an "employee" or in this case, a helper on your project, that is full of hot air and has no knowledge to contribute to the project, and the project fails because of the project managers bad choises, he should be learning that it is not wise to judge or pick people just because they are popular or full of themselves, and that a person should be picked for their actual abilities and qualifications, not how popular they are. If you were doing these as a competition between several teams in your class, the project manager that picked the quiet, smart guy might beat the sox off the other teams, and show a good example of how you need the right people to do the right job.
  8. Last week I added another skill to my long list of animal husbandry talents. I learned how to ear tag goats. I have had dairy goats for many years, but they all have unique colors and all look different, but since we are now crossing them all back with Boer goats, many of the kids are starting to all look just alike and I can't tell any difference in them. Heck, when I had just dairy goats I had them all named and new each one personally, since I hand milked them all. That of course, is not the case the the Boer goats. So I figured it was time to identify them so I can keep better track of their age, production, etc. I thought about tattoing, which I am very familiar with, but the only way to read an ear tatto in a goat is to catch the critter, wrestle it to the ground and try to hold it still enough to read the dang number in it's ear. Not an easy task at all. With the ear tags I can see the numbers from a pretty fair distance away. Luckily, I had to make a trip to my vet's last week for a puppy health certificate, and since he has long been not just a vet but a sheep farmer too, I got some good tips from him before I took the plunge. It's not really all that hard to do, but it is rather tricky getting the tags in just right so they are turned the right way so you can read them, and they have to be located up high on the ear so they don't catch in thing that goats are always sticking their head threw. My tagging job was somewhat complicated, as I have goats with both pendulous ears and upright ears. The goats with big down ears have to have the number on the outside of the ear, since it hangs down and that is the part you see, but the up eared goats have to have the number facing out from the inside of their ears so the number faces towards you when you are finished. Ear tags don't do much good if you can't read the numbers of course. I was a bit concerned about the ears bleeding, ears have big veins in them, and though it doesn't bother me in the least, my hired man who helps me can't stand the sight of blood. My vet assured me that he had done thousands of ear tags and had never bloodied one, and sure enough, I got threw all the tagging without a drop of blood being shed. Of course, the same could not be said for the casteration part of the job. I only ear tagged my doe kids, but we casterated all the buck kids, and wormed the entire herd. There were a few of the buck kids that had gotten too big to use banders on, so those I had to surgicly casterate. We just held off the bigger buck kids till the last thing we had to do. Hired man just had to look the other way while I did those. Poor guy was sure gritting his teeth. Though there is the possibility that it had something to do with something other than the sight of blood.......We finally got threw my whole herd, and when we were done we loaded them all up, Komondor dogs and all, in my old horse trailer and drove them across the yard, instead of driving them like we normally do. I was just afraid there would be a few split away from the herd going across the yard and ravish my flowers and trees before we could stop them. The only sad news about the days work was that only 2 days after moving the goats, and their protectors, my Komondor dogs, my favorite hen, one of a pair of Cuck coo Morans that I had bought a few months ago, got killed by a opposum or some such varmit. I can't believe they moved in that quick after the kom's were no longer here to protect the place. I was really upset over that one. They are rather rare chickens, and I have been trying to get a good start in them, I have several chicks from her that I hatched out this summer in the incubater, but with my luck the majority of them will be roosters. They are a really nice chicken, they lay HUGE DARK brown eggs, and are prety good productive layers. I borrowed a live trap from my vet, but so far haven't caught anything in it. The live trap is not to spare the life of the critter, I'll shoot the damn thing right in the trap if I catch it, but this way if I accidentally catch something else, like one of my other chickens, I can turn it loose. I am really starting to get disgusted with wildlife. After loosing all our apples to those damn squirrels, and now my favorite hen. And by the way, we finally did kill 2 of those things, but there is a grand total of ONE apple left on our tree.
  9. While we are on the subject of scamming as a business, it seems these days that lots of people are finding ways to do basicly just that, scam people, and finding perfectly legal ways to do it. One that springs instantly to mind is this new Car Fax company. They spend lots of money on advertising on television trying to convince the general public that only "reputable" car dealers will give them a car fax report on a car that the company is trying to sell someone. They are simply gouging the car retailers for a chunk of cash, driving up costs of doing business, and for what? Do you all realize how WORTHLESS a car fax report is? The only information those reports have is if a car has had major work done in a AUTHORISED car dealership. Considering the millions of non authorized mechanic shops, the chances of actually having any information on a car you are considering is highly unlikely to show up on the car fax. It's nothing more than a big rip off.
  10. I have long been a supporter of the death penalty. Although I have doubts as to wether or not it actually is a deterrent to crime. If you get mad enough at someone, or have the opportunity to steal or in some way make a very large sum of money, I think that it is unlikely anyone would take into consideration that they might get caught and killed and therefore change their mind and not commit the crime. I support it simply because there are some people on earth that absolutly do not need to live. There are some that are just so mean, warped, sick and twisted that to waste the recourses of our earth on their continued survival is just foolish. I do of course, thing the death penalty should be reserved for only the most terrible crimes. A recent one would be that sickco that shot and killed all those people, including an innocent young child, at a politicians public meeting. While I can see being mad at a politician, and I could even see life in prison had he just killed her, to shoot up a whole crowd, they should hang that sucker.
  11. Not really individual books, but I loved the series by Terry Goodkind that the TV show Legend of the Seeker was based on. A dozen books, including Debt of Bones Wizard's First RuleStone of Tears Blood of the Fold Temple of the Winds Soul of the Fire Faith of the Fallen The Pillars of Creation Naked Empire Chainfire Phantom Confessor. My second favorite is also a series, rather than an indvidual book, and the series was written by several authors but they were all very good, was the Star Wars series. I think I have read nearly every one of them, though I may of missed a few. There were a lot of those.
  12. Oh, I do love to read! Have ever since I was a little child. As a kid I read all the Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and of course, Little House on the Prairie. Too bad the Harry Potter series wan't around back then. I also loved the series of books by Walter Farley, the Black Stallion series. I usually don't re read books I've already read, but I bet I read the Black Stallion a dozen times when I was a kid. I practicly had the first page memorized. But my reading is stricly for entertainment. I would never read tech manuels, or that sort of thing. And unless I wanted to learn about a particular subject how too books aren't really on my list. What I enjoy reading most now are Sci Fi and fantasy books, maybe the occasional mystery. I was on a kick of Louie Lamour westerns for awhile too. I never could see the interest in romance novels. They are so boring!
  13. I could not agree with you more. Tolerating this type of behavior or actions, which in reality are really criminal actions should never be overlooked. If we let them slide they will continue to do it. However, when we catch them at it, and "punish" them, either by loudly pointing out their attempt at theivery or by refusing to shop in their store anymore their bad behaviour is fixed if they loose customers and end up going broke.
  14. I certainly agree with you that a curriculum change is definalty in order. However, getting people to agree to what changes are made is always a huge problem. There seems to be a big push for classes that I personally consider a huge waste of time. Take for example, our own local school district. It had an industrial sewing class in conjunction with a local garment factory, however the program with cut so they could better fund their sports department with more coaches. Now tell me in the real world, how many people are going to go on to become professional athletes, compared to the number that are going to end up working in a factory? Why on earth would you not want to expose the kids to what is going on in the real world, not some imaginary rosy perfect world? The same holds true for many other things that children should be taught at school. Things that would actually help them during their lives. I think they should spend a lot more time teaching them the proper way to write a check and balance their check books. And it should be explained to them just exactly how much that pretty sweater is really going to cost them when they purchase it with a credit card and pay 30% interest on that credit card. Your idea on being strict and not passing the children if they don't learn is right on! So many kids get flushed threw the system and passed on when they aren't learning a bloody thing, just because it might damage their poor little ego's to be flunked. All this does is set up bad habits for their future, why put forth any effort when you get want ever you want handed to you for doing nothing? I say flunk 'em if they don't learn. Keep them in whatever grade they are in until they learn. If teachers are paying attention, they should realize that certain students need additional help. There is no excuse for missing it. And no excuse for letting it slide without doing something about it. And it should have to cost a fortune of taxpayers money to fix the problem. Have some of the brighter student tutor the slower ones. Give the bright ones exta credit for helping. And believe it or not, (bet you thought you'd never hear me say this) your right about not blaming the government. The parents should be aware of what is going on in their schools, and take a vocal and active part in the curriculum and everything that is being taught to their children. Don't just hand off your kids to the government and expect them to do all the work. Because quite frankly, the government is not capable of raising children.
  15. No need to delete your account, hang around, maybe writing about your problems will help you out. Sorry you had such a long run on crummy jobs. I've had times like that myself. Many years ago I worked a whole 2 days at a turkey processing plant. You had to wear chain mail gloves, and I still managed to cut myself any number of times. The smell of blood, mine and the birds, was more than my queezy stomach could handle. My very first job was as a dish washer in a local restuarant, one day I saw the owner, a fat, dirty greasy old man, stick his finger in my glass of water and taste it to see if I was drinking his soda pop. As for stalkers, if they are on the internet, there really isn't anything much beside annoy you that they can do, and if you are in Arizona, there is a sure cure for stalkers, Arizona has the most liberal gun laws of any state, and it's amazig what the sight of a big shiny 357 Ruger Black Hawk can do!Hang in there, better days are a coming!
  16. Wow, your even scaring me! You really have to get some help. All of us go threw rough patches in life. It's how we deal with them that matters. It sounds like you have family at least, and therefor some support? You need to find someone to talk to, whether it is a family member, counceller or priest.
  17. Sadly, many young people today do not have the oppertunity to hang with the old folks. In generations past, the elderly parents often stayed in the home of the adult children, or had a home of their own next door or otherwise quite nearby to where their children were. Farm families especially, when the kids grew up and got married and started a family of their own, they just built another house somewhere else on the farm. That way the children of the young adults could grow up with their grandparents close at hand. Now a days the parents are rushed to to "retirenment communities" or even worse, nursing homes, and the kids never get that chance to know their grandparents. We have become a very mobil society, often the kids move half way across the country when they leave home.

Budgets work great for people who are on a more or less stable income. Unfortunatly the only thing stable around here are the expences! My problem is I never know how much money I will make in any given period of time. And it can fluxuate drasticly. So it makes using an actual budget nearly impossible to do.
  19. Do an internet search for "crate training." It's the fastest and easiest way to house break a new puppy. I won't go into great detail here, but it works because it works with the dogs natural instinct to not soil it's den. Basicly, it involves keeping the puppy crated when you can't keep a very close eye on her, and taking her outside to the proper potty place as soon as you take her out of the crate. After she has done her thing, you can take her back inside and let her play around the house, but as long as you can't watch her she needs to be in the crate. The idea is to never let an accident happen in the house to start with.
  20. Holly crap, how did you manage to find so many terrible jobs?Right now I'm full up, but if I get in the position that I need a new Pooper Scooper, I'll sure let you know. It's a cherry job if you don't mind heat, cold, rain or the smell of dog poop. Dogs don't care about your acne, the boss is too busy to stand over you, and the dogs don't back talk or make smart remarks. They can't flash you either, since they are naked anyway.
  21. I could't agree with you more. Nothing is really safe, if you hide in bed an airplane is likely to fall out of the sky and land on your pea picking silly little head. I do unsafe things all the time. Traveling, and meeting people by myself, well, ok, I do have my dog with me sometimes. I'm just not sure about the having faith in human nature part. I think I put more faith in my own ability to sense trouble, and my aim.
  22. Well, as long as I can put up with it I guess. I thought for sure it was going to have to go a few weeks ago, when it abcessed, but I took a round of antibiotics and it got better. Only problem with it now is that my tongue tends to rest against it, pushing it out of alignment, and when I chew it catches wrong and pops, which drives me crazy.
  23. OMG, I'd be hunting a new mechanic!!!! Real quick! Seriously, what are they teaching kids in schools these days? We had dinner out tonight, had to go all the way to the big city to buy a stinking lawn mower even though it's only August and there's at least 2 more months of mowing to do, Walmart here in town was out and not getting any more in. There was a young girl filling out a job application at the restuarant and she had to call her mother with her cell phone to help her fill out the application!
  24. Glad to see you back posting again Indego_Media. Didn't see you around for awhile and was afraid we'd lost ya! I'm glad the internet dating thing worked out for you. My take on this subject is while I think it is better off meeting someone in person and getting aquainted that way, the internet would be a good way to meet people you might otherwise never run into in your normal circle of friends and daily routine. Internet dating certainly has it dangers, but then again so does meeting strange guys in bars! You just never know what kind of trouble your going to get yourself into.
  25. That is a really huge problem for me. Mostly because I actually do have an awful lot to keep up with, and so I feel guilty if I goof off for a day. The first few vacations we took I had a hard time learning to turn off those feelings, but I finally managed to do it. Now I dread going home once I do finally get away. Not sure if we will get to take a trip this year or not. I've actually been thinking about this for the past couple weeks. But that's mostly because I have a tooth about to fall out, and I am too chicken to yank it out myself, and I hate to pay a dentist here $100 for 10 seconds worth of work. And all the TV news has us a bit concerned about all the trouble in Mexico with the drug wars and stuff. I'm not sure how safe our favorite little town is, though I can't see it being too bad, since the entire town is strictly there as a tourist trap. Los Algodones is where we always go.
