Well on my Vista Box, and on the Microsoft Website it says: "Minimum RAM: 1GB" I don't think Microsoft normally lies about recommendations. I suppose every system is different, but, Vista would run rather slow with only 512MB I would think. When I had only 1GB it ran poorly, once I upgraded to 3GB it ran beautifully! Minus the bugs. :]

Don't Click It Website! Interesting.
korireed replied to darkranger's topic in Websites and Web Designing
That is entirely too COOL!I want to know how they do it! Ha!I think that the elimination of the click would be so cool! I love it!I hope to see this go further, much further! What a GREAT FIND!! -
You are correct in stating that that is a horrible Web site. Not only is it hard as heck on the eyes, it's poorly structured and needs to be removed from the Internet this instant. Also, doesn't the rainbow background kind of CONFLICT with the religious messages?I mean, the rainbow is like, the call sign of the Gay Community...ya' know?Total paradox in my opinion, total paradox.

53 CSS Techniques You Couldn't Live Without
korireed replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The shadow on the images was killer! I really love that! The two images didn't look at all different to me!But then again, maybe I am just plain blind. -
CSS, I would say, IS the future of Web Design and Development.I feel that CSS does at this point have its limitations, and needs some further expansion, including better methods for rounding corners. However, CSS does not even have to be used as a LAYOUT method for setting up sites/pages.You could simply use CSS to STYLE the site, i.e. change the colors/effects, and still use the old fashioned table layout methods. However, CSS can be used for layouts, as you well know.Personally, I feel that the table method of layouts is old-fashioned and out-dated. Using CSS and DIVs makes life so easy, and allows for greater flexibility. The real kicker for CSS, that I feel makes it so great, is using it to bring consistency to your entire site, easily! You can style an entire site, with millions of pages, with just ONE CSS document! And then if you need to change a part of it, you can change it in the file and since it is rippled throughout the entire site, with just that one change, is what makes it so beautiful! It saves you loads of time by not having to go back, page by page, and change everything manually! That is where and why I feel CSS really is the best method for designing sites.

The customization abilities in FireFox make it a good choice for starters. But the fact that it is so much more secure than IE (7 or not) makes it much better!!I feel that it's navigation is far easier than IE7's! Although, once you're used to Vista IE works just fine.Anyways, Firefox is far better! Also, when designing my Web sites, I always have trouble getting things to work in IE7, let ALONE IE6/5, where as in Firefox it just...WORKS!I think that Firefox's CSS engines are better than IE's, but my Web Design teacher claims otherwise...any thoughts on this?Who knows!

I have tested Windows Vista Ultimate Edition on my system.I completely love the OS, minus all the bugs.It is very nice looking, has nice animations, and looks far nicer than XP or earlier versions of Windows. However, the bugs that it still has are HORRIBLE.For me, for example, everything was working fine with Windows Media Center one second, and then the next it suddenly had no Internet connection. Then I was getting BLUE SCREEN errors on boot up.And also, it has a HUGE BUG with USB on restart! My mouse plugs in via USB, and after a reboot the mouse dies, and the only way to regain functionality was to press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then click somewhere on the screen that wasn't on the options and then it worked again...but only for a few minutes. So, I recommend purchasing it if:1) You have 2GB of RAM or MORE (preferrably)2) You have a hard drive with 15GB to spare merely to the OS.3) You want something fresh and appealing to the eye.But I would NOT recommend that you run out and purchase it today. Wait, wait, wait, until they get most of those bugs out! It'll be worth the wait.Plus, there still aren't many applications that you currently use that are compatible on Vista yet (for the most part).

Major Website Mistakes Improve your site
korireed replied to BigmanB's topic in Websites and Web Designing
These are excellent tips for beginners! This is great for those who have not had any Web Design classes what-so-ever.However, for those of us that HAVE had these classes, all these things sound oh-so familiar. -
Network Storage W/o Router SATA HD Enclosure for my Dorm
korireed replied to patchcr's topic in Computer Networks
What I would recommend, is that you place the hard drive into one system (whichever is fastest) and network the computers via a crossover cable. Then both systems would be able to have access to the hard drive, once you set it up for sharing.I think trying to find a special enclosure and network it as external storage would make it far more trouble than necessary, and they already make such "boxes" but they aren't all that cheap. -
Did you make sure that both systems were on the same WORKGROUP? I know my XP machine and my sister's 98 machine had a hard time seeing one another unless they were on the same workgroup. Also, I could access her machine from mine, but hers could not access mine. I discovered that she had to have a user account that was identical on both her system and mine. And she HAD to have a password to access the XP machine. This is due to XP's tighter security policies. Also! Once I had her system seeing mine and she was able to access it, she was unable to see the shares! Well, this is because the share names on XP were too long (over 12 characters). This is because of how the 98 machine's networking works. Also, neither would see the other until I enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP. I hope some of this is beneficial, somehow.

Yes, a router is simply a gateway. It links multiple computers together and allows them to send bits of data to one another, I believe that process is called "packet switching," where each computer sends bits of data to the other at the same time, which increases reliability and speed.Don't quote me on that, I may have it backwards.None-the-less, for a single computer not on a network a router is simply pointless. If you ever intend to get more computers and form a network then I would highly recommend you get a good quality router. Some DSL modems, however, act as both a DSL modem AND a router. I don't believe that there's a special name for these devices. My home network runs off of our DSL modem. It is the Qwest Advanced Networking Modem (2Wire 2700HG-D I do believe) and it's a beautiful device! It makes life easy.Anyways, back to the subject, no, a router isn't necessary unless you intend to have a home network. Purchasing one wouldn't make your internet connection anymore reliable than it already is, and one never knows, it could cause you more headache than benefit.

phpBB2 vs IPB Didnt know what forum to put this in
korireed replied to Troop107-Admin's topic in Software
I agree! I think phpBB is an excellent forum! It's very easy to use, customize, and manage all by yourself. I've seen some of the other forums, and never liked any as well as phpBB.Also, with the new phpbb3 that's under development, I think it's really going to make it much better! I especially love the new look of phpBB3 over phpBB2. It is much cleaner and more sleek and basically, far more contemporary than phpBB2. I can't wait until they get a stable release out. -
Wow, the idea of a free domain just by posting in the forums. It is a dream come true for me! I've been searching and search for a great web host for a long time now, and it seems I have finally run across one that meets my needs!Personally, this alone is a good reason to post in the forums. It is great motivation, which is good thinking on the Staff's part if that was an overall goal.
