I cannot see the google toolbar slowing down your system. Are you talking about the google desktop search? Hey...I posted this same thing in another forum. I was wondering if anyone here knows how to make a dropdown box refresh the page after having a value change. In other words:I have a site, and I want to make it so that the main page displays news. I will have the news in a mySQL database, and I want it so that the main page contains a dropdown box with every possible date from the site's creation to the current date. When you change the value, the page refreshes and displays that day's news on the main page.

As I understand it, Page Rank is a numerical value for a site based on how "valuable" it is on the 'net, i.e. the more links you have coming to your site, the higher the Page Rank. A higher Page Rank then leads to a better position on a Google search, moving you closer to the very first listing.My observation is that it doesn't matter. With my site, my Page Rank is 0 but a search on Google puts me at #10. So why is my site listed so prominently on Google yet my Page Rank is so low?

I don't know much about networking but I'm trying to learn more by setting up my home network. I have one desktop computer running Windows ME and one desktop computer running XP Pro, I'm using a router and a cable modem to get them connected to the Internet. My main goal is to be able to share files between the computers so I don't have to be copying files from one and moving it to the other etc.... My first question is am I gonna be able to do this without a Network Hub? I've tried different things such as assigning static IP addresses to each computer in order to connect from one to the other. But it didn't work. Can anyone give me any pointers?

I am running Windows XP SP2. Sometimes while I am surfing the internet, Explorer will just lock up. When I close Internet Explorer I get an error message as follows: The instruction at "0x1001a584" referenced memory at "0x1001a584". The memory could not be read. I found a website that said this is probably a .net issue and removing the .net environment should solve the problem. This solution did not work for me. Anyone have any solutions?

Can 1st page preview window show a page that includes simple SSIs? To be more specific I'd like to use SSI to have a standard header and footer. The header includes <DOCTYPE>, <HTML>, <HEAD>, and <BODY> tages with a message, logo etc. and the footer contains the end of the </BODY> tage and a copywrite message. The SSIs do not contain any executable code, just file inclusion with parameter replacement (so you can define the page title for example).Currently I can get 1st page to display each of the files to be included even though they are not complete HTML files, but if I try to show the test.shtml file that includes them it displayes the SSI statements instead of what it contains.So should this work and I made a goof somewhere? Do 1st page need to see some HTML code before it tries to read it like an HTML page (the test.html only contains HTML comments in it (which contain the SSI statements). Or does 1st Page claim SSI support because it understands the tags for editing, but does not do anything with them for displaying?I'd also like to find some decent documentation on 1st Page usage. What I've found so far is pointers to technology reference documents (HTML, etc.), the tutorials are more like marketing bullet sheets, and a pointer to this forum (which is nice, but I'd hate to bother people for a question that should be answered in some basic documentation).Thanks,

I just got IIS running on my machine for development work, and I want to use Server-Side Includes in pages with a ".htm" extension. I followed the directions for mapping file extensions but when I got to the part where I actually type in the file type and the processor I want to use, the "Yes" button is grayed out. Does anyone know anything about this?

Flash does not deserve to get the negative vibe that it has been getting. ie flash sucks. I have done a movie in my mind now if I can just get these programs to behave. My main problem is I am useing way to many programs and my brain is going to explode. I know you should learn one and learn it well but my problem is liking different ones for different things. I have noticed that people like Corel draw and I have never used it. Problem is with graphics that all the programs work differently. PSP 8 is my fav but I have an old program that I like much better for cropping etc except the colors are not web colors. Does anyone know of any good fhash tutorials out there? I have taken some by Macromedia andI swear that I have followed the steps exactly by the tutorial but the sr creen on my pc opens a different window within the program than does the tutorial. Are they purposly try to confuse us so we will all take there course? After at least 10 times following it step by step I just decided to try something myself and bingo it worked but not their way.

Forwarding is great/simple/quick and I can change it any time.
