  19. Actually, John Woo went to Hollywood in 1993 with Jean Claude Van Damme's Hard Target, then three years later Woo directed the John Travolta/Christian Slater nuke thriller Broken Arrow (written by Graham Yost from 1994's Speed), the he directed Face/Off in 1997.I suggest renting or buying Hard Boiled starring Chow Yun Fat and Tony Leung (from 2000's HK crime drama Internal Affairs). It's available from Dragon Dynasty/Weinstien Home Entertainment in a 2-Disc special collector's edition. Hard Boiled got some awesome gun battles and an explosive climax in a hospital. Yun Fat's character in the movie is also the subject of the latest video game John Woo's Stranglehold, in which Woo is involved in the production.I hope John Woo makes more modern action thrillers in the forseeable future. Can't wait to see those flying doves again.
  20. MOVIE SYNOPSIS: A gritty, fast-paced action thriller, Shoot Em Up kicks into high gear with a memorable opening scene and never relents. Clive Owen stars as Mr. Smith, a mysterious loner who teams up with an unlikely ally (Monica Belluci) to protect a newborn baby from a determined criminal (Paul Giamatti) who hunts them throughout the bowels of the city. Shoot Em Up is written and directed by Michael Davis. 21. Well, Superbad is released in mid August. So it's late in the summer. just want until the September numbers come up. I'm sure Superbad might make it to the $100 million mark soon.
  22. At the beginning of this summer movie season, the heavy favorites in this race would be a three-peat of the "dynamic duo" of Johnny Deep's Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Carribean franchise and the CGI wizards at Pizar. Well not this time. In the rematch from Summer 2004, Spider-Man, Shrek, Harry Potter and Jason Bourne battle each other in an all-out box office brawl and thwarted Jack and the Pixar boys' chance of giving new term to the phrase "Three times the charm". And with special guest stars NYPD detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) from the Die Hard franchise, and Hong Kong inspector Lee and LAPD cop Carter (Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker) from the Rush Hour films, this summer proved to be one of the greatest seasons in recent movie history. Add to that are the sleepers in the form of R-rated gross out comedies Knocked Up and Superbad. It's nice to have some originality added to the already specutlar lineup. And The Simpsons Movie became one of the highest grossing TV-to-movie adaptations to date. There are a few bombs like the videogame adaptation Dead or Alive, the "torture porn" horror films of Captivity and Hostel Part II, the much-delayed Nicole Kidman/Daniel Craig sci-fi thriller The Invasion and the Jet Li/Jason Statham martial arts bulletfest WAR. But other than that, this summer is hassle-free. Here are the box office results of Summer 2007 according to BoxOfficeMojo.com (as of August 27th): 1 Spider-Man 3 Sony $336,530,303 2 Shrek the Third P/DW $321,012,359 3 Transformers P/DW $308,631,000 4 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End BV $307,829,257 5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix WB $283,309,000 6 Ratatouille BV $199,036,000 7 The Bourne Ultimatum Uni. $185,143,000 8 The Simpsons Movie Fox $173,437,000 9 Knocked Up Uni. $147,730,000 10 Live Free or Die Hard Fox $132,833,171 Same time next summer. 24. Problems with my project by Ronaldo MartinezIt is hard for me to concentrate on my comic book project ?Anything Goes? especially with little money, working on two part-time jobs, and having a nagging mother who wants me to do chores and other stuff.Sometimes it?s hard to keep track of my project while I have jobs at the local sports arenas doing foodservice work. I also have to keep an eye on my DeviantART.com page and separate web page in the computer in the mornings without having obligated about my personal hygiene. I usually eat sushi and drink Red Bull or any other brand of energy drink as my ?magical elixir? to help me focus on the project before I draw my characters and conjure up my biographies for those characters.I usually draw one character a day. It takes me four to five hours, excluding breaks, to sketch, ink and color my characters, give them quick biographies and upload them into my art community websites. My mom thinks my characters resemble characters from various TV shows and movies, not having some originality. But I only trust the costumer to judge for his or herself. When I go to work, I was thinking of new characters and story ideas when I prepared myself for my shift. Sometimes, my thinking of story ideas sometimes distracts me from my usual foodservice chores. Sometimes I have to be reminded by my supervisor and fellow workers of my tasks, but I later handled them well. I was busy concentrating on future ideas for my projectI also have a problem with my financial assets: Currently I have $60-70 in my checking account and I have to spend most of my debit card payments on transportation from my work to the bus stop, paying online artists for commissions of my characters, comic books, food, spare printer ink and paper. I am always excited to get my paycheck from work only to spend it on the above expenses, knowing that my mom will get mad and suggested me to save some money, but, save it, for what?I hope I can get another part-time job, one that does not demand standing and waling all day, so that I can have more money on hiring writers and artists and buying more online tools for my project. Hopefully if I am lucky, I could consult my job coach to get me a new job.I have a dream to follow, to become the next Stan Lee in terms of creating my own universe. But I cannot do this as a one-man show, and I have very little resources. Hopefully things will change soon, and I hope that my project will become a reality.
