  1. Dell arent as good as they seem. I've seen dells run and they dont seem to be that good. In one of the dell magazines all of the computers they were selling had intergrated graphics, this is the worst graphics you can use and only the best system there had a good graphics card. That cost about $3000(AUS), and i could probably build the same system for $1000. Dell are a rip off.
  2. Talisman 2, and Aston Shell Both are good and use less resources then Explorer Talisman 2 Aston
  3. XBox's rock because you can mod them legally(its illegal to mod PS2 in aus), and you can get custom HDDs and basically have linux running on it and have all your games installed on your xbox. You can get media players to play divx and xvid and so on. You can also Emulate games on it too, i have SNES, N64 and neogeo on it at the moment. The first controllers that xbox had were big controllers, the small ones are a lot better. As for selection, XBOX has great games on it, Fable, Burnout 3, Tiger Woods 2004, SSX 3, Tony Hawks 4 and Underground.
  4. The whole point of a beta is only for testing. Trying a beta on a system critical computer is a really bad idea. I used VMWare to test Longhorn and it looks pretty cool. Remember, it hasnt been released yet and iits still probably not finished.
  5. If you dont use a crappy internet browser like Internet Explorer you arent going to get virus's or spyware. The only reason linux doesnt get spyware is because there a so many versions and writing virus's and spyware for it would be pointless. Windows however barely gets updated in years(like 98->2000->XP) and its your fault if you get virus's, because you dont have a virus scanner. Both mac and windows stole another company and used its GUI design. I'll try to dig up some more information on it.Macs are supposibly great for work, but i've had bad experiences on a mac and seriously Emacs cost like $1500 yet a $50 pc with windows 98 can beat it. Maybe if you get a G5 you can use applications good, but why should i have to pay $5000 when i could pay $1500 for a excellent pc that can run the latest games.Linux seems great and all, but it seems like more of a work/server based OS and as i said in my previous post i'd rather use Windows mainly because my whole network is using it and im constantly playing games, and i really have no use for Linux either. My computer never has spyware and never gets virus's.If you want to get rid of spyware and virus's, get Adaware SE(auto monitor) and Panda Antivirus Titanium(uses low amount of memory). Both of these are great programs and i would reccomened them.Just my two cents...
  6. Appears my sign up script wasnt working, if you tried to sign up before and didnt get a validation email, try agian, and if it says your email or user name is already registered just post it and i will validate you.
  7. You given a certain amount of troops at the start, and you get a certain amount of money per a certain amount of time based on how many troops you have. You can buy armor, weapons and upgrade stuff so you do more damage. You can attack other people and steal their money. You can also do covert missions and sabotage peoples weapons and so on.
  8. After wassie posting 2.0, i started a new army system. Come join guys, its got a modern theme to it. Currently you can be Australia, US, or Iraq. All the weapons have been changed and you can spy on people. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  9. Playing on private servers is the only way to go as i have heard that the actuall normal servers are worse than the private ones.
  10. I know a dude who has 1.2 terabytes, he has like nearlly every good movie realesed in the last couple of years, and most games. I've got 160 gb though
  11. SATA and Raid allow you to hook up more than 2 easily. Though it depends if your motherboard supports it other wise you need to get a special card for it. Also you can get specialized hard disks for it, but you can also use ide's with a converter.
  12. Why would Bill Gates want to watch your computer? I mean he has billions of dollars, i doubt he'd be intrested in what your doing. XP may have it flaws, but if you actually keep everything up to date on it it will run fine. XP is a crap load better than anyother windows that i've used and as i said, linux isnt compatiable enough and i'd prefer to stay comptaible with my network.
  13. If you keep your windows system fully updated with the right virus protection and try to keep it clean, windows can run really fast. The only reason i use windows is because of compatability and the large amount of good games for it. I play a lot of games so linux probably wouldnt work for me.
  14. Unless you offer something to people they arent going to come. You need something that makes the forum special and you need to get it rolling before the people will start rolling in.
  15. Its supposibly 1337. I'd rather just not bother with setuping a different OS. Anyway my whole network uses windows so it'd be impossible to work with. And seeing i play a lot of games they all wouldnt run on linux
  16. Unless you play it a lot and have a big harddrive its sort of a nuisance to have it because its 6 gig. I think its an ok game, but its basically just ut2003 with vehicles and some new maps. All the weapons are the same, it is basically just another re-release to make some more money.
  17. People will probably start making virus's for linux.
  18. *cough* i see a software pirate *cough* j/k... HL2 will be awesome.. Doom 3 is even better. Right now, i don't even know a release date for hl2. What I really can't wait for is Halo 2. It'll own! *Cough* Lans *Cough*
  19. Overclocking normally gives you problems and will probably mean that you have a higher chance of your card breaking. If you have a normal card without overclocking it should last longer.
  20. Halo's missions were good, but got boring after a while. The pc version was about the same but the multiplayer was good, the netcode was a bit bad though, so you got a lot of lag on some servers.
  21. Yo, welcome, i've only been here 2 days, and its pretty good, moderating that many forums must be annoying, hell i probably couldn't even moderate 1.I'll probably see you some other time as im about to leave.
  22. I'm in australia so our cable has to go through the sea, so its obviously going to be slower than normal
  23. Alternate Shells I have found several shells i like, most changing everything compelty and allowing a lot of customization. If you didnt know, these programs change what runs instead of explorer.exe, and as your not modifiying windows, execpt for changing what is going to start up, your not breaking any rules. These two are ones you have to buy, but they are really good. Aston Shell http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Quite good use of plugins, easy to setup, looks good, and has a large community base Talisman 2 http://www.lighttek.com/talisman.htm Quite close to what aston shell is like, requires a bit more work, but there is a large amount of use of menus and other cool effects HoverDesk http://www.hoverdesk.net/ Not as good as the other two. Decent fanbase, not too many features. Free Shells Litestep http://www.litestep.net/ Free, but requires a large amount of setup. Hard to get working, i didnt really like it, but it seemed more for people with a lot of times on there hands Darkstep http://www.darkstep.com/ Basically the same as above, adds in new stuff and fixes bugs I'll add more once i find more good ones.
  24. Because linux isn't compatiable enough. Most business's use linux because they host servers and things like that work well enough on linux. Most hardcore gamers use windows or a combonation of the two. Both have strengths and weakness's.
  25. I was suprised it ran, but extremely slowly, if anyone has a way to install older nvidia drivers on a newer card please tell me. I get a BSOD every time i install older drivers.
