  1. I usually use AVG, but since I got my new computer, the pre installed Norton hasn't expired yet, so I'll just keep using that until I have a reason to switch. But I agree with most of you, Norton does suck. It consumes so many recources, and it almost always gets comprimised with the virus. AVG is sooooo much better.
  2. If you need something free, get Core FTP, or if you have firefox, get the fireftp plugin for it. They are both very good. If you don't want to download any thing, then just use internet explorer. It has a built in (buggy) FTP program.
  3. You know, the DS can do all of those things, and the PSPs games pretty much suck. Don't get me wrong, I actually prefer the PSP, because of some of the homebrew, but the DS is still better in the public eye.
  4. Here is the info for my invites... shunkan.idou@gmail.com I am offering 5 atm. I require that you become part of my fansub group, and know some Japanese (you have to be fluent, and able to translate) or know how to do karaoke or encoding. It's prefered that you can translate or do karaoke. Just know how to use a computer, and how to type a script.
  5. I usually get a premade layout, tne edit it like crazy in notepad and mspaint, and make it look completely different, almost to the point where you can't recognize it anymore. After I'm done with that, then I add in a whole bunch of random scripts that do cool things, and then I upload it to a random server.
  6. About 4-5 months ago, when I was first setting up my new computer, and installing all of the drivers. Since then, it's been pretty stable.
  7. Out of most of the compression software, winrar will do the best, but winzip is a lot easier to use, simply because it's integrated with windows.
  8. If you had asked this 1 or 2 years ago, I would've supported the move to Win2k Pro completely. But now, support for that OS has been dropped, and XP is pretty much stable. You should just buy a new XP Home CD, and reformat with that. Install antivirus, firewall, firefox, and antispyware if you need it. After that, just update everything in microsoft update, and then you should have a safe, stable, computing enviroment.
  9. Hmm? Are you disagreeing with me, or with the majority of the posters in this topic. I pretty much said what you said except in a "softer" way, to avoid flaming.
  10. The first computer that I ever used was a Windows 95 machine at my mom's job. I didn't know much about computers back then, so all I did was play minesweeper the whole day.By the time I actually got my own computer, I knew a lot more, and I was old enough to learn more about computers. I think that my first computer was a Compaq Presario with a 700MHZ (just guessing) AMD K6 (once again, just guessing) processer running Windows 98. It had 128MB of RAM, a 8GB HD, and a 4MB ATI Rage video card.
  11. From what I can gather from the internet and my own personal expieriences, Opera is currently the best browser. It may not be the most popular, but it's definately the best. Even though I'm praising Opera, I still use firefox, because I'm used to it, and it's suported by more sites. So, if you hate IE, and you want to try something easy, then use firefox, but if you want to be different then most, then get Opera.
  12. I go to a private school, and I disagree with what you guys are saying about it being for "rich kids". The majority of kids in my school aren't "rich", including me. Private schools are just an alternative to public schooling. The public schools in some areas are just so~ messed up, that nobody with a choice would go there. That's why private schools are made: to provide a better education than you could get for free from the government, and also to provide a choice.
  13. If you're looking for something free and good, then I'd have to suggest AVG Antivirus. In my opinion, it's actually better than Norton and all of those other bulky, not-free Antivirus suites. It doesn't consume as many resources, and best of all, it's FREE! You can get it here: http://www.avg.com/de-de/free-antivirus-download
  14. Well, for email, I use Gmail and Comcast, but for IMing, I use trillian, since I have accounts and buddies on Yahoo, AIM, MSN, ect. It's a lot better than downloading Yahoo, AIM, and MSN seperately, and have them all slowing down my computer at once.
  15. It shouldn't be too much of a problem to leave your computer on 24/7. But, you should reboot it at least once a week, and maybe let it rest for a few hours every now and then. I once left my computer on for 4 months straight, and it still doesn't have any problems. If you're using a laptop, don't ever leave it on 24/7. They aren't meant for that. It's alright with a desktop, but laptops die a lot easier. The HD lives are a lot shorter, so the longer you leave it on continuously, the faster it will die.
  16. It's probably a faulty start-up program, or a messed up bootskin. I'm not exactly sure how to fix the problem if it is a bootskin, but if it's a start-up problem, try booting in safe mode, and disable all optional start-up programs. Try booting up normally after that, and if it works, that confirms that it's a start-up program that's causing the problem. To fix it, you should enable each program one by one, and start up the computer with each different start-up configuration. As soon as it crashes, you should know which program is causing the crash, and you can just uninstall it to fix the problem.Sorry if the explanation of what to do is a little unclear, but I'm not that good at giving explanations. Anyways, hope I helped!
