  1. I believe in the supernatural. I think there are a lot of different kinds of 'ghosts'. The negative energy you believe in after something terrible has happened in a location, and also spirits that haunt or protect a place after the person is gone, or have unfinished business. I also believe that humans have powers that we will be able to tap into eventually. Right now, we only use two percent of our brains. I'm not an evolutionist (I mean, I don't believe that we evolved from monkeys or the Big Bang.), but I believe that as a populace, we will all eventually grow and learn to be able to use more of it at will or need, and there lie powers such as ESP, telepathy, and maybe even telekinesis. I don't believe in most superstitions, such as walking under ladders and rabbit feet, because they are mostly the product of human fear and a need to blame bad things on something and have something that may keep them away. They may have acquired 'power' over time, but most of us don't really believe in them, so...
  2. Anything should be put down if it's in pain and dying. I do include humans in that, if the person wants it. Otherwise, on the surface, I don't see anything wrong with it either way. There is peace in sleep and death. (I imagine it's peaceful just being an animal too.) They won't have to starve in bad shelters, waiting behind bars forever (applies to both good and bad). If aliens invaded us and turned us into their pets, I wouldn't... mind? our current shelter policies being applied to us. I might want to be 'put down' after a while. We would all like to die a painless death.
  3. No. Google knows too much already without them spidering all of my writing and pictures and stuff. I mean, the search engine is wonderful, but they've gotten too powerful. Think on this: You enter your credit card number, address, phone number, etc on some sites. On a GOS, everything you did, including that, would likely be 'spidered' and put into their algorithim locally, if not semi-publicly. Google looks out for itself. I know there's a certain amount of trust we give sites like PayPal and Amazon and such. But even if they didn't abuse it, what about coding bugs? A while ago, you could search Google for VISA credit card numbers. I'm imagining a GOS one step removed from the internet. And if it was so closely linked to the internet, it would be easier than ever for hackers and viruses to get in. And I suppose this applies to everything too, but if I thought about trust too much, I wouldn't be able to function. I already have a deep mistrust of Google, though I do still use it for searching.
  4. How to get the Attatchment MOD to work with EasyMOD: http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=12140 When you download a MOD, open the file and read it and follow the instructions. It's as step-by-step as you can get, but some of them are terribly long. EasyMOD spoils you. I modded my first forum by hand. If you really don't want to... try to edit the MOD file so it works. Eh... Exactly which mods are you trying to install? (Links?) If I have time, maybe I'll try to do it for you.
  5. Personally, I use Exponent CMS (not in Fantistico) for its simplicity. You can test all but SiteFrame on http://www.opensourcecms.com/ under CMS - Portals. Mambo is definitely the most popular.
  6. My main e-mail account is at Yahoo. (Google for searching of course) And I still use Yahoo Maps and Groups. *reminisces about the old days of Yahoo Clubs* Groups is better, but they took a while to get used to. I used to be in tons of Clubs/Groups and go into the Chatrooms a lot.
  7. What about that five/six year old kid a while back? He probably didn't understand death yet. I didn't know teens could get the death penalty before. Teens may kill someone in the heat of the moment, but isn't that true for everyone? In any case, the death penalty is essentially revenge. I don't know whether I agree with it or not. To receive the death penalty, the person should understand death first. If they know what it's like to lose someone and understand that death is final and terrible for loved ones, and then they commit premeditated murder, then I suppose they do truly deserve it.
  8. I think someone asked about it a while ago and OpaQue said you had to specifically request JSP if you wanted to run it because it takes up a lot of resources... It was a month or so ago, I think. You might find it if you search. You should PM OpaQue and ask about it.

    Which Forums

I'm a great advocate of PHPBB, but really, it comes down to which interface you like best. And when modded enough, each forum is exactly like every other. I suppose out-of-the-box, IPB does have the most admin-control, but you can get most of it on PHPBB with certain mods. Also, another downside to paid forums like IPB, is without paying, you cannot easily get the latest version with all the bug/security fixes. (There is an old version of IPB in Fantastico.)
  10. I don't really like shooters. I like Simulations (Sims) and MMORPGs (Runescape) and Puzzles. Single-player RPGs are good too, but I tend to use walkthroughs when I get stuck. And browser-based (Kingdom of Loathing), but I tend to lose interest after a few months. And recently, I've gotten into ARGs, which are... basically sort of a combo of roleplay and puzzles.
  11. I saw it a couple nights ago, mostly because it sounded something like the Nightside series by Simon Green, and it is kind of. I made the mistake of reading the spoiler here first though. Still, good movie. Might get it when it comes out on DVD/video. Oh, and the studio has approved a sequel, which it doesn't really need, but I guess it'll work. (Money grubbers...) By the way, at the end, Gabriel's not ugly persay... no one can expect to look pretty right after getting burnt that badly. S/he'll look mostly the same when she's cleaned up.
  12. phpBB is what I've always used. Free, easy to mod, easy to skin, nice interface, and after modding/looking at the code a bit, easy to understand what everything does so you can customize it however you like yourself. And it has just as many/more mods as IPB. *plugs http://www.phpbbhacks.com/ *
  13. I think a better question would be, what if you were suddenly thrust into an alternate universe in which computers did not exist (on earth)? If computers did not exist here in this universe, we would not know about them, and therefore most of the questions are moot. However, if I was transported to such an alternate universe with all my present memories, I think I, and most of us, would get over it sooner or later. Either adapt to it or be condemned to an asylum, not just from going crazy, but telling people about a world in which such conveniences existed. Although, it would be possible, but unlikely, that you'd be hailed as a visionary genius in later generations. The people who really would commit suicide over losing all of our current technology are in the minority. Anyway, it would be interesting to see how such a world had turned out. By the way, the 'would you think about inventing computers' is a fair question in such a scenario. Most of us would think about it, but extremely few of us have the knowledge to do so. Building computers nowadays isn't too hard, but in that universe, there would be no pre-made hardware at all. I don't think any of us knows how to make a motherboard, hard drive, anything... from scratch, not to mention the work in coding, in binary, with absolutely no references. And the 'would you not exist' question is valid too. How did your parents meet? No computers also means the development of all types of transportation gets set back quite a bit. Perhaps without all our modifications and safeguards, they died before they met/married/had you.
  14. Internet and Computers, I suppose. But according to my profile, General has the largest percentage of my posts. (25%/15 posts) I think Internet would have a majority, but it counts the subforums in it seperately, I think. I tend to come in through the portal and then the first thing I do is View New Posts. Then, click on the topics that seem to interest me...
  15. I have all three main ones (AIM, YIM, MSN) and mIRC. I used to chat a LOT, but I don't much anymore. I still have YIM, AIM, and mIRC open at all times though. (The only one I talk to on MSN is my cousin.) They all have their pros and cons.
  16. I'm using Exponent CMS right now. I'm testing a few others, but I don't think I'll be switching, although WordPress is kind of tempting. I'll probably end up using Exponent and WordPress in conjunction. I'm not quite satisfied with Exponent's blog system, but otherwise, it's really good and has a lot of potential.
  17. EasyMod is at http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=15 (The exact thread for the latest version is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ) Remember, not all MODs work with it, although most will if you edit the MOD file enough. To create Subforums such as the ones in these forums, you'll need a mod. Just look around and search http://www.phpbbhacks.com/ and you'll find it (and probably any MOD you want). You can request them too (at those forums or phpbb's), but it might be a while.
  18. Using http://www.nickciske.com/tools/binary.php , it decodes to %31%30%33%31%35%37%31%35%36%31%34%37%31%36%32%31%34%31%31%36%34%31%36%33%30%35%36%30%34%30%31%33%31%31%35%37%31%36%35%30%34%30%31%34%34%31%34%35%31%34%33%31%35%37%31%34%34%31%34%35%31%34%34%30%34%30%31%35%35%31%34%35%30%35%36%00 which is Hex for 103157156147162141164163056040131157165040144145143157144145144040155145056 which is Octal/ASCII for: "Congrats. You decoded me."
  19. Logo: Replace the image (forum/templates/Classic/images/logo_phpBB.gif) or change the url. Template editing: Edit files in the /templates/ folder. You should create a new template to experiment with so you don't mess your current one up. (Duplicate a template folder and rename it.) Ranks: Go to admin, click Ranks, 'Add New Rank', fill in the form, repeat. You'll need to upload the rank images to your site if you want them. And http://www.phpbbhacks.com/ is a great place for Mods/Templates/Images.
  20. I don't think you read my entire post. I know that Trillian does log, but it logs into one file per account-to-recipient. I talk to my best friend several times a week. After a few months, the file gets very long. I also sit in some chats for days at a time. Extremely long after just a week. And still, it offers very few features for IRC, which is my main chat program now. As far as I know, there is little to nothing other than the basic chat. After looking at the site again, I realize that it does do Yahoo mail notifications, which means it could potentially replace YIM for me, but that's not enough to make me switch over. Although, part of it is me being stubborn and liking how each messenger has a different 'style', and it never can replace every feature of each system.
  21. Eh, I've tried Trillian multiple times (up to and including V.3), but I don't like it. The chat program I use most nowadays is mIRC, and Trillian does not have a good IRC module. And I don't want to pay for the 'good' Message History interface (I'm online a lot and chat logs get horrendously long when they're just in one file.) and e-mail notifications when it's already free with the regular programs. V.3 is quite obviously the best Trillian so far though. Maybe I'll switch over in a few versions if they make the history and notifications available on Basic.
  22. My goal in life, and everyone's, I think, is to end up happy, or at least completely content. It's what everything boils down to, more material possessions or knowledge, etc... to try to be more happy or proud of oneself (or make others less happy). I don't care if I end up a starving artist or anything as long as I'm happy/content there, as long as I *like* who I am. I don't really know what I want to be right now, but what I will be... On the good end of the spectrum, I will become rich and famous for computers, or on the bad end, I'll become a homeless bum.
  23. Try this, it should work. (I'm assuming you have FTP and PhpMyAdmin on your new host, it'd be rather sad if it didn't.)1. Backup everythinga. Files. I assume you already have, or at least know how to.b. MySQL database. If you don't know how, go to PhpMyAdmin, click your phpNuke database in the left sidebar, click 'Export', 'Select all', select 'Add DROP TABLE' and 'Save as file', name it whatever, and 'Go'. Repeat with any other databases you have. 2. Ok, a few ways to try to do this.a. Just re-upload all the files to the new host and insert the exported MySQL info. (may or may not work)b. Do a clean install of PhpNuke at the new host. Then, replace all the files and insert the exported MySQL info. (should work)c. If both of those don't work, (the second method really should though) do a clean install and insert the MySQL info, but you'll have to reinstall any mods/templates/etc.The clean install should be the same as the one you're using now, obviously. And to insert, create a database, go to it, click SQL, browse for the file and click Go.
  24. I look for bandwidth, space, PHP, and MySQL first, but all of those are meaningless if the hosting provider has terrible uptime and/or support. I sort of like Free-Webhosts rating system... *looks at Globat* Wow, that's rather good... But it doesn't offer subdomains unless you pay, multiple domains/sites (again unless you pay), or reselling, which are the only ways other than a download or *very* media-heavy site I could possibly need that much.
  25. I still have my diaries from when I was little and I look through them when I find them. Other than that, I read through old blog posts occasionally. It's interesting how different I was back then, how I've changed so much. In blog posts two years ago, I seemed happy. I was still reeling from a loss, but that didn't really show through. A year ago, I had gotten rather serious and excited about things, life. And now... I've sort of gone extroverted and poetic. Lol.
