What do you think is the best messaging client? Right now, I must say Trillian, because it allows multiple acount log ins at the same time. But it's only for windows, and I'm not sure if there's a linux version...and I am about to switch to linux. So once I switch to linux, i'd probably go for Gaim. Although it does not allow multiple accounts, it does allow IRC chatting. and furthermore, it is open source ! there's a lot of room for improvement...but im not sure how much active its community is.And although both Gaim and Trillian can be invited for a conference, they can't create one unlike Y!Messenger. And although Y!Messenger 8 can be modified to allow it to run multiple instances so that can you have multiple accounts loged in at the same time, it tends to slow things down a bit. and after awhile, i can no longer invite people to conferences with it, so i had to reinstall and leave out the registry as it is.What about you guys, what do you think is the best messaging client?

at least the days of items in the shape of a chicken, burger and such to gain vitality is over hehehe :Pbut still, most heroes are very young oh well, appeal to the market's fantasies hehehe

@Yacoby Ok, i will stick to one topic for now since it is your main concern - violence As i said before, there are conditions before one muslim can engage in an act of "violence". That is, when somebody does sh*t to them first ! Americans invaded Iraq because muslim started it? Why do you think there was a 9-11? because they were bored? or because the american goverment have been screwing them around for serveral years? Yes, it is sad that innocent people had to die during the 9-11 attack. But it's not surprising that something like that would happen. (Note: The reason why America is rich, is because the goverment gets their resources from other countries, till the country is practically dry. Also, America is a war economy. Remember that ! It's been involved in several wars because they earn a lot by selling their weapons and such. Furthermore, the american goverment keeps on justifying themselves to the american community. That's why they're getting the support. But properly inform the american public and they themselves will not support their goverment. i.e. the "weapons of mass destruction" excuse...btw, I don't have any beef against america. every country has their own sh*t, it just so happen that that is america's.)

@JasperIk I also think that you're just over reacting imagine, drawing conclusions such as "forcing their relgion to you" from "god bless you" well, but your over reaction is ok it's just a phase (not the atheist part, but the over reacting part ) your over reactions are probably just due to the fact that you know very few people who have similar beliefs as you that's why you think the christians are "ganging" up on you perfectly normal human reaction, but it will wear off through time ...btw, religion is not evil ...i don't believe in branding something that cannot decide evil or good if you think about it, it's another common human behaviour, pointing fingers ..but again, it's just a phase (at least for you, i think it is)

What Should I Do? A girl I really like...
franz see replied to -bLiNd-'s topic in Dating And Relationships
IMO, you better confront the girl. Not to choose between her ex and you, but to ask her whether she still loves him or not. As Chrisseh mentioned, she's confused right now. She know damn well that she shouldn't allow her ex to do those things. And her words are there to prove that she knows it. However, when the situation comes wherein his ex comes in for a kiss, she can't think that fast so she tends to give in. Nothing wrong actually, quite common with girls who have mixed emotions. If I were you, I'd suggest to the girl to be prepared everytime her ex is around. Cause he'd probably go in for a kiss or a hug again. And if that happens, her immidiate reaction should be to pull away. she should not think twice about backing away. -
it's basically just an xml file following a specific DTD (i.e. format) Its used? usually to give you updates from a source or sources (usually from websites). So for example, if you have an rss reader (called a feed reader) in your computer, and you're connected to the net. your rss reader would simply check for updates every now & then from your rss sources and if there's an update, you would be notified and you can view the updates

It's actually quite simple given d = y^2 - x^2, where y = x + 1, d = (x+1)^2 - x^2 d = [ (x+1) * (x+1) ] - x^2 d = [ x^2 + 2x + 1 ] - x^2 d = 2x + 1 And if x = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...}, we would have d = {3, 5, 7, 9, 11, ...} Furthermore, you can do the reverse.... d = 2x + 1 d - 1 = 2x (d - 1) / 2 = x d/2 - 0.5 = x THUS, combining with y = x + 1, we will have d/2 - 0.5 = y - 1 d/2 + 0.5 = y This is the basis of the trick i used to do back in elementary (yes, i was a bored little man back then hehehe ). given any number, d, i can find its x and y such that y^2 - x^2 = d (it's just a matter of dividing d by 2 then adding and subtracting 0.5 to get y and x respectively) it was a neat trick back then, but after being taught algebra, it got demystified

If your friends are the same as mine, then don't be offended they're not assuming that you're a christian even if you're not, they will say that to you Christians basically don't care what your religion is, or eve if you don't have one They will simply love you (..then again, assuming those christian friends of yours are the same as my christian friends ) furthermore, it is merely their way of expressing themselves for example, you are the type of person that loves a good conversation, and you have a friend that loves gift. if your friend wants to show his/her appreciation for you, he/she would most likely give you gifts. Yes, it may mean not much to you, but it means a lot to your friend. Same way if you try to have a good conversation with your friend. It may mean something to you, but it may not mean much to your friend. ...my point is basically go beyond what they are saying / doing. because in reality, they're not greeting you that to convert you (or because they're assuming you are), they're greeting you those to show their appreciation for you

Basic question: Define good and bad. Note: you can't define "good" by saying it is what is "good" for the society...what is "good" for the society? No way is violence permitted? ...What if you have to kill a person to save the whole world? Highly unlikely, but what if? Besides, muslims are not actually permitted to do act of violence agaisnt other. It is only when act of violence are done to them when they are permitted to do so ...Pardon, but what is neutral? btw, choose your words more wisely..."what i think is wrong in your religion" is a bit rude. (For muslims out there, correct me if i'm wrong. i admit i'm no muslim and i have not yet read the Qur'an... I only have muslim friends).

i'd have to agree with this one if he's really battered, you would have seen the bruises yes, his parents might have hit him a bit too hard, but i don't think it's enough for him to leave his house. secondly, i don't think it was like that when he was young. because if it were, he would have never trusted anyone, including you and an orphanage. most likely, he had already made friends before that happened. thus, it may be just a phase. lastly, all he needs are friends. friends to talk to, friends to keep him company, and friends that will share their problems with him as well. if your friends share their problems with you, life isn't that lonely. ...however, i am a bit preplexed about the 3 days missing part. however, he did not say what his parents did when he left the house and when he came back.

Wow ! Great ! An open source project ! Thanks for the tip I'd try to check it out this weekend and take a look at it Don't worry I don't expect the decompiler to work on non-C++ compatible Besides, I'd probably not encounter that anyway in my basic use of it Yes, I figure that much But i think im up to the task of refactoring the output of the decompiler hehe Thanks again

What Is A Resistor? Brief description and history of resistors
franz see replied to squeaky's topic in Science and Technology
1. Reduction of Voltage: Partly true. However, take note that it is the voltage drop on the resistor itself that is affected, and not the voltage on of the voltage source 2. Divided by 0 = Infinity: Yes, dividing by zero is undefined. BUT, the limit of (y / x) as x approaches zero is infinity. Knowing this fact allows us to understand better the behaviour of the function. 1. Formula being true: Well, for basic uses yes. But it is merely an approximation. 1. Resistors with value over 1 ohm: Yes, there are. In fact, these are the types of resistor values you would usually use. And moreover, you'd usually use resistor values by the thousands. 2. Varying currents in a circuit: Yes. That is it's main use, and from that, you can use it in several configurations That is why basic electronic usually starts with the ohms law. 3. Standard Amount: Well, more like standard range Even in a DC circuit, noice can sometimes affect your circuit thus causing some problems (of course, there are configurations to fight noise). Furthermore, you would usually see in a data sheet the input current range of a component with respect to other factors. NOTE TO EVERYONE: 1. ZERO RESITANCE that DOES NOT mean that there are INFINITE CURRENT passing through. It only means that it can allow "infinite" current to pass through, assuming you have a "zero" resistance material. 2. From my experience with electronics. It is not a an "exact" math. You do not design it to be acceptable to only 1 value, but to a range of values. 3. These are just my 2 cents...it's been a long time since I did any electronic projects hehehe -
The question then becomes, why is he like that? I know this would be too personal, but I would like to ask his family background. What age did his parents got divorced? Why? What's the difference between his brothers age and his (i assume from your story that he has only one sibling). How's his relationship to each member of the family and why is it like that. What area in the world are you in (cultural differences). Basically, he is like that because of his family. It must have happened at a young age. Yes, these are all personal information, and I would understand if you won't like to divulge such info (even in this thread or via pm). In fact, I urge you to think twice before deciding whether to give this info. Btw, Im no psychiatrist. in fact, i deal with computers, not people. but nonetheless, I'm a human being first before a developer. And i've met many people who has sad stories. Anyway, back to david. He thinks that his the only one who had a hard time living (yes, i use the term living, and not growing up..because im guessing the root cause goes back to his childhood). Also, what makes it worse is that he's taking pills instead of talking to someone. both would be nice, but let me just say that talking helps a lot! best if he talks to a professional, or to someone who understands him. Do you know any friend of yours that had a hard time also, but are doing fine? Talk to these friend of yours, and ask for advice. They can relate to David! ...and it would be a great help for him. When you don't share, it seems like the weight of the world is in your shoulders. But when you do talk, the problem seem to be to big anymore. Ofcourse, it is possible that he would insist on being depress while he shares his story. because he know no other identy, than the Mr. Misery. If he does that, tell him that. Btw, if you're going to ask a friend of yours to talk to david, best if it's a guy. He's in a delicate time in his life that he would fall for the first girl that would relate to him. Ain't healthy... Furthermore, the reason why he's calling you guys childlish, is because he doesn't want to be treated like a child. So that suggests that he thinks people think of him as a child (maybe true, maybe not...i don't know). When he does that, you can try and bring that up...i.e. "Who is treating you like a child?" Why does he talks about comming suicide? Not because he wants to die, but because he doesn't live anymore ("I don't want to die. I sometimes wish I've never been born at all" - Queens' Bohemian Rhapsody). There's a difference. When a person thinks he has used up all his resources, and the pain is still there, the option would be suicide. ...at least, it started out like that. But now, talking about it too much, and using it as a threat to other people suggests that he is looking for attention. He is saying, "this is what makes me unique! I am not afraid to die!" But don't worry, most probably, he won't do it. ...just don't tell it to his face because he would it if you do so. Anyway, it's really hard to make a post about this. best if you talk to a friend that has gone through a lot of tough sh*t as well, but are doing fine. IMO, it's hard to find the solution if you don't understand the problem. btw, aside from the police, you may want to consider admitting him to a mental institute. at least there, he can get help as opposed to being punished by the law. oh, and 1 more thing...about his father. i suggest you tell him what i just told you regarding the things going on inside david's head and why...that is , if you believe what i say. PS: the arts helps relieve the pain as well easiest way? - music ! you just have to sing the lyrics of a song that you can relate to as a means of expression

sorry, but im not getting any "devil" vibe from your forum. it's a good start though. goodluck

On Why Java Is 'c'ooler! additions / criticisms invited
franz see replied to saint's topic in Programming
1. we were taught java during our first years....well, to be exact, not taught, but rather we were "forced" to self study it 2. You're comparing the IDE and not the language. 3. extend classes are found in most OOP Languagees. And it's only daunting for beginners, but very useful for amateurs and beyond 4. Programming Language is free ! Even .NET is free! ...However, their IDEs are not. 5. Java is OS independent (at least, it's almost is). The java community would only have to make a java compiler and virtual machine and it'd be alright. 6. MS is not as strong as before. In fact, the delay in vista's launched has cost them greatly. If open office gets more acceptance in the years to come. we might see the end of MS monopoly. 1. Yes, speed-wise C++ is definitely better. But then again, why stop there? why not go for assembly? - the reason, because the bigger your project becomes, the lesser that difference in speed becomes.2. Pointers are very useful. Eventhough i specialize in java, i never forget my pointers. it will help you understand a lot of things 3. For beginners, i prefer teaching C. But if you want output right away, go for .NET. I'm in java because i love the huge opensource community (plus a few more reasons) !!! precisely ! well said ! i agree with most of what you said, with a few exceptions:1. speed-wise...read my msg above 2. OS written in java? highly unlikely they made a microcontroller before that run on bytecodes...and it basically sucked ! im not really sure what they were trying to do, but hardware and java don't mix well (unless a standard protocol is established). 1. Yes, JVM slows down the app a lot. I do hope they can make one which is similar to that of .NET very effective2. Numerical calculations? I'd go for Mathematica or Matlab 3. Umm...in java, not everything is actually a pointer. im not really sure what you mean. but if you're refering to passing params by reference, then no. Java only supports pass by value, never by reference (although it may look like its by reference,it's not). If you mean everything is being accessed through their address because they're objects...not quite. java is not a full OOP Language (haven't tried 6 yet though). it still has some primitive data types, as opposed to .NET which has none. IMHO, use the language the best suits your needs. For me? - java, because of the numerous open source community out there ...just my 2 cents worth
