  1. If you are planning to download movies, you would probably have more success using P2P programs instead of downloading from websites...I have amassed a respectable collection of them over time, all from programs like Kazaa, EDonkey, IMesh, BitTorrent and DC++ :-)
  2. I also use AVG (or do when I need it)...but also HouseCall is a good free alternative for people who want a little protection... ...go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ (it's an online scanner)
  3. A man says to his wife "with the mortgage and all our monthly bills, we're not going to have enough money to survive...you're going to have to go out and sell sex!"...she agrees to do so and on the next night is all done up in her tartiest clothes. She goes out at around 6pm and comes back at 11 with a jar full of money. They sit down together and count it out."?112.50" says the wife, at the end."Who gave you the 50p?""All of them"
  4. That would go better as: The genie then turns to the blonde and asks "So, what is your wish?" To which the blonde replied "Oh, I really can't think...I wish my friends were here to help me decide!"
  5. An irishman goes to the doc with two burnt ears. The doc looks at the ears and exclaims "How did you do this?""Well, I was doing the ironing when someone called me on the phone...I wasn't concentrating so I put the iron to my ear and burnt myself""Both ears?""Well, I had to call you for the appointment, didn't I!"
  6. And the longest word is "smiles"... ...why? Because there's a mile between the two Ses :-) (off-topic to the main post, I know :-))
  7. Best place for downloads from it is [link removed] (which has been around a LONG time and has a good selection of downloads) and IMO Shadow's client is the best...but I've not used BitTorrent or any P2P client for over a year now.Just search https://www.google.de/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=BwkjVKfAD8uH8QfckIGgCQ&gws_rd=ssl for "BitTorrent download" or "BT download" or ".torrent" and you'll find sites with files...it's how I used to find stuff I couldn't get on DC++ or my other sources and that wasn't on SuprNova (very rarely happened tho :-))
  8. Well, excepting VCDs, 3ivX (steer clear of that one :-)), MPEG, VOB (DVD format) and a couple of lesser known ones that WinAMP seem to be using for their video on demand system :-) (I know, you said 90%) I would suggest, BTW, that for all the listed codecs that DivX 5 supports that you install their respective codecs in ascending order...it's a little more space-intensive but if you're a purist you'll be happier with the results...and XviD is its own codec so DivX may (dunno if it does) support it but you really should get a build that's been done by Koepi or Nik or someone :-) and if you go to that site it directs you to http://finalbuilds.com/ which has links :-P But again I iterate that codec packs are more problem than solution unless you really don't care about your PC and reinstall regularly :-) Just like I said :-) Nimo as an idea was good, but nuclear power as an idea was good too :-)
  9. (Football here is UK football, or soccer to the yanks :-))This guy was the coach of the local "Blind league" football team. This team had never won a game in their life due to the fact that couldn't see the ball or the goal in which they were supposed to get it. One day the guy had a great idea...he went to the shops and bought a load of bells (the kind that cats have on their collars) and attached them to the ball so that the blind players could hear where the ball is.The first game they played, the team actually came close to winning (lost 5 to 2 instead of 5 to 0 :-)) so the guy was proud of himself......until the second game where just after half time the players all ran off the pitch and out of the stands...and a minute or so later someone comes running in and shouts out "please, someone help, there's a group of footballers kicking shyt out of a morris dancer out here!"
  10. I've the same phone, and I suggest to EVERYONE who has phones like it (the polyphonic ringtone phones with IRDa) to buy a USB IRDa connector for their PC...free ringtones and all you have to do is download the MIDI file and send it to the phone...I know 'cos that's what I used to do through my laptop's IRDa port :-) An IRDa connection is easy to get hold of, go into any good computer store and they'll have them :-)
  11. I can't remember which comedian it was, but one of them said he was so stoned he mistook the gun for a pizza......well, looks like I've got some new enemies :-)BTW, I like "Smells like teen spirit" and also the Weird Al parody (which apparently Kurt Cobain said he loved :-))
  12. Good to see no-one's mentioned my top 5 movies :-)(in no particular order)Hot Shots seriesNaked Gun seriesScary movie series (SM1 being the #1 best movie)(that's 8 movies, but there's a couple of doozies there :-))

    Mp3 Player?

This is of course a UK shop, but Maplin.co.uk has one for ?50 (which is about $80 USD)...128MB of space and it's a pen drive as well so to move MP3s to it you plug it into your USB port and just move it over...downside is Maplin doesn't have a pic for it. Also, Maplin has an *EXCELLENT* 128MB drive for ?25 ($35-$40 USD) or 256MB for ?60 ($100) (see below) http://www.maplin.co.uk/?ModuleldID=&doy=25m11& Note also that the battery in the above lasts 9 hours apparently...the ones with HDs do NOT last that long...and I had an excellent MP3 CD player which would go for maybe 2 hours per set of batteries...flash is the way to go for portability and longevity...although only 30 songs won't last as long as the batteries unless you compress them a lot and they're long files :-)
  14. Ah...last movie in theatres...well, that's different...that was "Layer Cake" which I went to see with my brother (it's a UK movie, a little like Lock stock and 2 smoking barrels and has 2 or 3 actors from it too)...I rarely go to the theatre (we call them cinemas here :-P) to see movies as I usually get to see them long before they're even out over here in cinemas (I'm well connected online so get to d/l them :-)) And the Austin Powers movie was one that I saw (DivX) which I watched a few days ago (again)
  15. I voted other as I have an AMD Thunderbird (P4 equiv, I believe) 2.4Ghz...bought it over a year ago and it's still running, which is a first for anything I own. The PSU inside my machine is fried, but still pumps power into the MB...the fan in it doesn't spin all the time (and makes a hell of a racket when it does) so every so often the PC turns off as the PSU overheats...plus there's a wire loose inside so I have to jiggle the cable between the PSU and the MB to get it working......I'd buy another but I'm a lazy bastard :-)
  16. Glad to see no-one's mentioned Arachnophilia, available at http://arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/ ...When I first learned HTML in college, we did it in NotePad...the teacher told us that Dreamweaver (which was just coming out at that time) was the way forward. However, I strongly suggest you steer clear of Dreamweaver MX, they've gone TOO far with it and Dreamweaver 4 is much better. Downside to DW 4 is it can't handle inline frames (won't display them) and doesn't seem to like tables within tables... ...Arachnophilia was my FIRST HTML coding program (aside from NotePad of course, which I still use on occasion although it can't open pages over a certain size) and if you really are a notepad nut I suggest you download an updated version which can handle larger files :-)
  17. My total HD space is about 400GB strewn over 4 (7,200rpm) HDs...and I plan to add another 320 in a striped RAID array...costed me a lot so far but I like the fun of improving my PC and getting new toys to play with......too bad I can't download hard drives via BitTorrent ;-)
  18. Er, if it's partitioned into two drives..."backing up" to the other is NOT a good idea...you back up to ensure that if your drive fails you there's a copy...if your drive fails you, you lose BOTH partitions and thus lose your backup... ...I suggest you get a separate drive to backup to :-)
  19. I have 4 HDs (3 in use) 1 120GB, 1 6GB (system drive...Windows is on it) and 1 40GB (the one not in use is a spare 120GB with tons of videos on :-)) Doesn't matter how much space I have though, I always need more...got to get rid of those games or something...but I'd miss them :-) Planning to buy a couple of 160s and put them in a striped RAID array so I have a faster 320GB drive :-)
  20. Also, consider using the scroll feature if you have Windows XP (dunno if it's in other win versions)...where it displays only a small part of the full desktop......Or you can try software instead...there's software out there that supports multiple desktops where you can switch from one to another with a hotkey and have different programs running on each. I've not really delved into this so I can't remember any names, but it's got to be a lot cheaper than buying a second monitor and card :-)

    Compressin Files?

Not 100% true, as WinRAR is faster than WinZIP in many cases but achieves better compression... ...Anyway, reason I'm posting (this post is now aimed at the original poster)...search https://www.google.de/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=BwkjVKfAD8uH8QfckIGgCQ&gws_rd=ssl for "PAQAR" compressor...it will take 1 minute or so per 100k of data (yes, 100k) but the compression it achieves is currently UNBEATEN...it even compresses AVI and MP3 fairly well (although given your "ISO" bit, I am assuming you're a n00b to computers so I don't suggest PAQAR for you personally)... ...thing to note about it is that there's no GUI for it so it's all command line and it is also hugely processor intensive and requires 500MB of mem to actually achieve best compression (or 1GB if you have it) but it's the best there is out there... ...and if that's not an option, there's always UHArc or as said before 7zip... ...I've actually looked into a "brute force" compression program which attempts to compress a file using different methods and programs and achieved moderate success with it, but it's so damn slow 'cos it's compressing 100s of times *just* with WinRAR so you can imagine the speed of it...you'd have to leave it overnight if doing a big file...the end result will of course be worth it...one day I'll finish it :-)
  22. If it's basic video editing, try http://www.virtualdub.org/ (note it's AVI only although there's an MPEG 2 version which'll let you even load unencoded VOBs in...but output to AVI only :-)) I used to use Media Studio Pro until I found VirtualDub, and I've not turned back since :-) Of course, if you need fades/wipes, VDub doesn't provide this...pretty much everything else that you get in the big progs are supported though, mostly through plugins. Plus it's free!
  23. Not a great deal of help, but check out http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ for info. Also, I personally go the free route for video editing (VirtualDub basically, see http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ note it's for AVI video editing...although some programs will output AVI to MPEG for DVD authoring)Also, go to groups.google.com and search for "DVD authoring" and see if there's anywhere that you can post for help from the experts :-)As you can guess, I'm an AVI nut (http://www.doom9.org/ is my favourite AVI encoding file site :-)) so I'm not that useful, but I'm sure if you go to dvdhelp you'll find what you're after
  24. My last movie was Austin Powers: Goldmember...nice to see Michael Caine in a comedy...although the ending was a bit crap IMO.The usual Mike Myers comedy...OTT and brash :-)
  25. You forgot:61: Tell them that the last cop said that as you'd been pulled over already the ticket allowed you to speed for the rest of the day62: Tell them that you need to get to pay a speeding ticket and the cop shop closes in 10 minutes63: Ask if they failed the entrance exam for the army64: Point out that the white line isn't white, it's yellow65: When walking the "white" line, do it a couple of feet to the right of the actual line66: When doing so, hold your arms out and act like a tightrope walker...and when at the end turn around and go "TADA!"67: Ask him if he wants a hankie to remove that doughnut dust from his tie68: Say "Do you take bribes...I'm sure I've got a few doughnuts in the back"69: When he asks for your name say "Osama Bin Laden"And the best one:70: When he gets to the window say "Do you know who I am?" and when he says no ask "Do you know my number plate then?" and when he says no, say "CYA!" and drive off fast :-)
