  1. No doubt then about the s*@t I have been through. I have had a radius of 35 miles, which doesn't sound like much, but it IS! They dispatch installers by the way "A bird flies". It wasn't a great experience for me, other than the fact that I met some truly amazing people, who just wanted a little TV. I always enjoyed someone who wanted to give me something for my work just to get thier s*$t on. I always appreciated that "offer" of a Bud Light from someone who "Just want's to watch a little T.V.!" I'm sure YOU truly understand... BTW.. You joined this forum on my birthday! Cool!
  2. How do people post like this and stay active?!? You need to be more specific in your answers to people that are not as tech savvy as yourself. The jumpers that are being talked about are on the back of your hard drive, and normally there are three settings. The first is Master, the second is as Slave, and the third is as a (CS) Cable select, which means whichever cable is physically tied to that drive(By means of a physical turn of the cable.) And also, there are normally two interfaces for your drives, which are refered to as "IDE" or "EIDE" connectors. You have a primary (1), and a secondary (2), controller, normally found on your motherboard. If you set a jumper as a "Master" on your IDE "Primary", #1 controller, you would have to set up your secondary hard drive or CD-Rom as a "Secondary" on the same "Primary" line. Hope you understand what I am trying to teach you! If you need help, I would gladly asssist you! Notice from BuffaloHELP: Be respectful towards others with posting and watch your tone and language.
  3. This is probably off topic, but I use PCDJ to chop and mix my music. It's a great program, and I am not trying to push an affiliate link on ya'! I really like this software. Take a look on Google for more information on "PCDJ"!
  4. It has to be in the public_html folder, and the filename should be "Index.html". Works for me!
  5. An installer should never judge you. YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER! I was an installer for Directv at one time and I GREATLY apperciated my customers, who in reality, were not MY customers, but a result of me earning a living from folks who just want a little "Hassle Free" T.V.! I have Comcast myself, and have great download speeds, so I can't Bi*%h. Ya' know what I mean? But I do understand your side on this argument whole heartedly!
  6. The DSL Modem/Router I hooked up today is compatible with ALL protocols of wireless adapters. I don't think it would ever be a problem to have a router slow down to match the protocol of a slower NIC card. I have ran multiple wireless cards, etc. and the slowest one I have ever seen is a 10M, instead of the 100. Oh well!
  7. I HAVE TO SAY AGAIN!! Everyone thinks electricity has to be transmitted through the AIR! What about the Earth, It's core and it's mantle? Both have different electrical potential. You need to do more research about this subject before we say it is not feasable!
  8. Anybody want a GOOD Samsung E700 cheap? Just kidding. LOL. It's not a good Idea to use the words "sell" and "problems" in the same sentance, so I had to rib ya'. But it's all in good fun.
  9. My XBOX here at home ties in fine with every router I ever hooked it up to. The XBOX does not have a wireless receiver in it so it doesn't matter if the router has wireless or not. But make sure you get a router and not an old HUB because the hub will only allow you to connect two or more XBOX's together WITHOUT a net connection, and only around your house. (And you will need certain cables to do this. Either crossover or straight thru ethernet cables.) But you should be fine.
  10. Sounds like a software or driver problem to me. And BTW, if you have to disable the onboard VGA to install another card, you will know because you usually won't have video on the new cards' output. I would suggest running DXdiag from the run command on your start menu. To do this go to start menu> run> then type in dxdiag. This will run diagnostics on your DirectX installation.Keep us up to date when you work this out and good luck!
  11. If you are feeling particularly brave today, you can do what I used to do and pop it in and see if your system recognizes it. At worst, who knows. I just had a machine that wouldn't boot and beeped POST messages at me. I usually just try to match the type of ram that's already on the mother board. And by that I mean if you already have for example, a PC133 stick of RAM, I would try to make sure the next stick is of the same type (PC133,PC100,DDR,etc.) and not necessarily the same size.(MB)
  12. Sounds like either one of two things has happened. First, was the NIC a PCMCIA card that went bad causing your origional PC to mess up? And two, are there any driver conflicts? I would open up SYSTEM under the CONTROL PANEL and look under HARDWARE / DEVICE MANAGER and look for any exclamation point symbols ( ! in yellow). If you see any, there is a conflict or problem with that a device in your system. If that doesn't solve the problem, I would update ALL drivers. (Even if it is new, it may have been on a shelf a while.) Hope this helps you in some way. Best of luck.
  13. Yes, and you probably should not do that. Modifying your wireless card IS LIKELY to give you many problems. One of the first problems you are going to run into will probably be impedence mismatches from your solder joints and definately mismatches if you change the antenna. Placing your antenna outdoors will not necessarily be any better than having it indoors. The only reason to have an outdoor wireless antenna, in my opinion, would be to service an are that is not within a normal wireless range. (From your living room to bedroom for example.) Sounds like you might need an industrial wireless solution. Check out http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ for an idea of what I am talking about. Good luck!
  14. Actually Dooga, they somehow have found out my name and put it in one of my fake verification pages someone sent me. But I guess that isn't to hard to spoof some of these things being as your e-mail address is your Paypal ID. Hmmmm.. How convienent. Is it possible to find out much about me with just my e-mail address? I would like to know.
  15. True, I don't think they are either (My modem is still on and connected anyhow). But if you are serving videos, etc. you can almost bet they are going to get itchy with your modem shut-off switch. Your idea of running a local server for in house serving would be the better idea.
  16. I have read much on electricity and have studied quite alot about electronics and even went to college a little while to study it. I recall reading an article that made reference to electricity being transfered without wires. See, the problem is, everybody wants to send electricity through the air and I don't think this is feasable. (Excluding RF frequencies, etc. of course.) But it is feasable to send it through the earth. (OK, now quit laughing and read on..)But, I remember reading about the famous Nicola Tesla and his claim that he could transfer energy (Electricity) through the earth. He was the inventor of the tesla coil and was experimenting with x-rays before anyone even really knew what they were. He was also heavily involved in AC current, or what now is referred to as "household current". Nicola Tesla and Thomas Edison were at war over whose type of electricity was supierior. (AC vs. DC) Edison referred to Tesla's voltage system as "The Electrocutioner's Current" and referred being electrocuted as being "Westinghoused"There is an excellent bio, etc. on Nicola Tesla at Wikipedia.org. Maybe we should read a little more about electricities history before we say that "wireless electrical service" is not possible. I myself would love to see the technology come to light to make that possible. :angry:Also try looking up telluric currents, it is VERY interesting. It is possible in theory.
  17. I myself have inserted several links in my messages, but they were regarding the topic I was writing about. One such link was for mobile Directv, and it linked to the article about the service. I hope I'm not breaking any rules, but I'm sure someone will let me know if I am.
  18. Another item that may be worth noting: If you try your Windows disk on another machine and it doesn't hang up at the same point, it very well could be a defective CD DRIVE. Before you say that that could not be the problem, I had a drive that worked great up until a certain sector of the disk. Just a thought. (Your Linux disk may have been smaller in size, therefore not reaching the sector that is hanging on your drive.) I would suggest using some type of utility to examine that drive. Good luck.
  19. I have had the same problem with these e-mails. Like was stated earlier, check to see what the url is. (Usually it points to somewhere like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or something else crazy) The address bar at the top may even well show https://www.paypal.com/de/webapps/mpp/home. You need to look in the bottom left corner of your explorer window (If you use IE). There it will show where you are actually going to link to. I have received these e-mails with different "themes". Some say that suspicious account activity was detected, others say that they need my account updated or it will be suspended. Anyhow, I have yet to fall for any of these, but obviously someone is or they wouldn't be using this ancient phishing scheme. Paypal has been fine with me, I still have money in it, and I have NEVER been contacted by Paypal.
  20. Does the drunk girl at the bar who keeps falling on me like me?!?! Or howabout' my neigbor, she has a tick and keeps flipping her hair at me!! Oh gosh now I'm confused! Hahahaha!
  21. This is definately something I would personally advise you not to do. First of all, phone sex is boring after you reach the age of 15, and secondly, you better be glad you can't get phone V.D., cause you don't know who you are messing with. If I were you, I would go to the mall or somewhere similar and try my luck with the locals. Good luck with whatever you choose.
  22. Some if not most ISP's do not allow hosting of any kind! This is why I now need hosting. I already had my machine up and running and serving pages when I read about it may be against the TOS. So, I drug out my dreaded pile of agreements, etc. and this is what my Comcast service agreement states: So, as you can see, I am NOT allowed to run any type of server on my machine. Wish I would have been smart and read the TOS first before I went through all the steps of installing Apache, PHP and Mysql. Guess you just have to live and learn. Notice from BuffaloHELP: Use QUOTE bbcode when copy from another source that is not your own words.
  23. In an interview with T.J. Duckett of the Atlanta Falcons and Lil John, hip-hop artist and the "King of Crunk", Lil John says "It's hard to define crunk. Atlanta is such a crunk town. Before a concert, you can just feel our fans get all crunk." I think what "crunk" is, is to be wound, excited, etc. usually from the effects of marijuana and alcohol together. I believe that the word origionated with Lil John and The East Side Boys. That help any?
  24. Directv has now went mobile. For a mere $2295.00 you too can have a Trackvision A5 receiver and antenna installed in your vehicle. The company reports that subscription for the mobile service (Directv's Total Choice Mobile Package) is only $4.99 per month for existing Directv customers. For more details, visit the company's website http://www.kvh.com/. It is also reported that Humax is going to offer a Directv mobile personal media player called the istation. It has a 4" screen and a 20 GB hard drive that allows you to download shows straight from your Directv DVR. Some of Directv's plans for these type units include $0.99 cent downloads of commercial free shows. You can see the Humax istation at https://www.engadget.com/. Looks like the future of total diversity in the mobile field is coming strong, but will this ever be mainstream? I don't know, but I'll keep watching!
