Too true, at the moment America is the school bully, so afraid that they are weak that they must attack those who are weaker to make themselves feel better (im not saying the public are bullies, only those that control you) hopefully obama is secure enough in himself that he can destroy the America we know today and rebuild it. the world knows that Old Bushy ruined the country that was once looked at as the way forward. I also think that the "family man" view of Obama made his win possible. I know over in America you see things very family and religion orientated, the fact that obama has a wife and two kids and is religious makes him the obvious choice in America. What will be interesting is to see how he handles his family and work life. It wont be easy for them as i expect they will be escorted everywhere they go, even to school i expect the kids will be in bullet proof cars with drivers and guards with guns. So it will be interesting to see how they cope with the isolation it could bring. I also like the fact that the Americans went wild cheering when he said he was going to buy a puppy! Its just a freaking dog!!!

Yup america does have a weird system, here in the UK for example the new PM is put into office very quickly, i dont know the exact figures but probably a couple of days, give the old one a chance to move out (cant wait to get rid of brown, mark my words, the next general election brown is OUT! Yay!) Plus the opposition doesnt get a say, we have the house of commons and such where laws are passed which has people from all sides but if the PM says taxes are going up then taxes are going up! etc... The opposition are just there to make things harder for the PM! Plus i think the American election has been a media stunt as well, here in the UK the candidates would go around trying to earn votes but not on the scale of the Americans, theres no need! In the UK most people know who they are voting for from day one and id say we're hard to convince otherwise! Methinks that if we get a new government in Iran, Uk, America, Iraq and the EU is destroyed (the union, not the countries) then the world will be a much better place. At the moment the US and UK are causing a lot of problems in the world, and that is due to our leaders, once that changes Iraq will be safer, in turn making the rest of the world safer as extremism slowly declines, the end result being a calmer world with happier people, all the money that is being spent on war could go to aid efforts at home and abroad (i mean Ł9b+ ($18bn+) for the freaking olympics?! We dont even want the olympics! They are going to build a huge stadium and village, then destroy it all, and build hoses on the site... imagine how many houses/flats could be built for 9bn!!!!! Jeez.... not to mention the economic situation... 9bn would be VERY helpful.... Oh and let us not forget they stole money from the national lottery that would usually go to helping charities and kids schools etc....) So a new world order is what we need! and as David Cameron suggested (leader of the UK opposition) when will the UK see a change like America is having? Obama is a step forward, Cameron is a step forward, 2 steps forward into a new world is what we all need. From there democracy can take over the world and everyone will have their say! Obama did well to overcome the hurdles and he deserves a long term in office (provided hes good) and it should spark interest in the young for politics (i myself am only 19 but the elections kept me awake for a while until i saw Obama having almost twice as many electoral votes )

Yeh i think security for obama is going to be a huge thing, people didnt like bush, that is true, but those that didnt like him were generally the intelligent ones and so wouldnt go so far as to shoot him. The ones that dont like Obama are going to be idiots, gun lovers and hard core racists, all 3 are likely to try to shoot him.I noticed he had the bullet proof glass either side of him when he done his speech (i think its bullet proof glass right? We dont use that in the UK lol we are more rational when it comes to guns!)

It sounds like you've had an incomplete install or something, the programs have been deleted from the disk and the registry but im guessing add/remove programs uses its own database. Is there not an option to remove it from the list? Im sure there was...

20th january i think A200, from what i heard on hte live news last night :lol:I live in the Uk but the coverage has been amazing, every news paper, news show, news site had info on the campaigns and now the results are in the airwaves are like electric! Headlines everywhere! So far my opinion of america has been this: (in general obviously) moronic, slack jawed idiots who fail to realize their decline in popularity, becoming one of the most hated countries in the world (trust me, its true) But now that the american public have woken up and elected a man ready to change that i think America will become a lot more popular, Bush has been ridiculed by the press and everyone else but Obama can be the man to change america i think and change Americans too and now the world opinions of America will change. Ive never read it but if you can get it for free, like borrowing it off your friend, theres nothing to loose, if you read the first 100 pages and find out its rubbish then just stop reading it.You can always google it and find its synopsis and reviews on it

Aye as Jlhaslip said its generally a problem with not ending a logic gate properly (if, while, loop etc...) Either post the code here for us to check and remedy or count all the curly braces: { } and make sure you get an EVEN number, if you get an odd number than you need to find the place where the curly bracket is missing and add it in. For best results get a syntax highlighter, mine highlights curly braces when i click them and automatically highlights the matching close bracket so i know where that part of the code ends. If you use a highlighter and check for an open brace that doesnt have a close brace, and that is your problem.

I dont think there is a way to add the subdomain using PHP, however it may be possible to set up your host to redirect subdomains so that if i went to blah.yourhost.com it would redirect to: yourhost.com/blah even though the "blah" subdomain doesnt actually exist.... if that makes sense?

It will simply refresh the page "index.html" every 120 seconds (2 minutes) If the page you put it on is "refresh.html" then you'd need to replace "index.html" with refresh.html You then need to work out how many seconds you want to wait for a refresh, 60 per minute so 5 minutes = 300 seconds. 5 seconds obviously is just 5. I gotta be honest, its the first time ive seen a code like this and i can think of several uses for it! Otherwise i wouldve used javascript which isnt thhe best option...

I agree with xpress, i too am unsure of the method you want to use.If you wish to use PHP to interact with FTP i cant help you there, however you could set up a system where you use a PHP script on a website to upload the file to the internet, and then on the other computer download it from that site.If you want to use FTP you need two things, an ftp SERVER and an ftp CLIENT. You install the server on the remote computer (computer A try googling "mecury FTP server") You then need to install a client program (like filezilla) on the other computer. Computer B. Then you turn both on (or get someone else to turn the other one on) and connect them to the internet. Sitting at computer B you then upload a file to the server on computer A and the file is transferred across the internet to computer A.This however has several problems as you will need to enable port forwarding if behind a router, enable unrestricted access to computer A etc......Cant you just save the file to a disk and send it? or transfer the file over IM etc...?

I dont think they are switched over, although i dont know 100% i think that the money you earn in the Xisto balance is untouchable, EG its yours and can only be spent on xisto stuff, it cant be decreased or withdrawn. I think any penalty on the forums (eg if you spammed) would be taken out of your MyCent balance on the forums and your Xisto balance would remain the same.Also the system only updates when MyCent is above 100 so presumably it wont update if your account is in the negative as that isnt 100 (i would also assume that even -100 doesnt count and so wont be updated into xisto) As of now your MyCent is 68.05 that doesnt mean $68.05 even though it looks that way it actually means $0.68.05 (68 cents and 0.5 of a cent) so that wil get updated when it reaches 100.00 or more.As long as you used the same email address at xisto as your forum email address then your accounts would have been linked within 4-5 hours after registering.

I love snow! Here in the uk (south east to be precise) we only really get snow maybe a few days in the winter and it only really lasts about 2-3 days on the ground. Usually the snow arrives in feburary-march time which is the deepest part of winter into the earliest part of spring, but this year due to artctic winds coming down from the north, scotland (in case you dont know scotland is at the north of the UK) has had snow already and even as far south as london (about 15 miles from where i live) they expected snow this morning at 1am, i dont know if they got any but even a forecast of snow this far south this early on in the year is insane!Last week we had temperatures of around 10-15C this week we are expecting highs of 9C and lows during the day time of 6C nighttime temps are down to -1 or -3C insane for october!But i love it! the cold crispness of the unpolluted Arctic air is brilliant, i also love fishing and i cant wait to get out on the bank or a lake, dead stillness, quietness and peacefulness, nothing like it!as for the first time i remember snow i have no idea, maybe when i was a few years old and we made a snowman (i think theres been snow every year of my life but this is the earliest i can remember). I wish we got more snow here in the UK I remember one year it came down so heavy we had about 2 inches in an hour and it triggered a thunder storm! It was great playing in that

I too am unsure of what exactly you want, is it just that you want to be able to upload and download files with php?If so that is possible.If you just want to use FTP in linux then get a linux FTP client. There are plenty out there

It makes it a lot easier by reading the readme, a lot of members dont and then end up getting stuck!The hosting is really good, ive been hosted for a while now and it really is what it says it is! You dont need to be a writer to make this place work, just use a bit of common sense, no one line posts, dont fill the post with smilies etc... an you'll get along fine!

Thanks, im experimenting with fonts for the header image at the moment and then ill choose a nice compliant font for the content. So far i really like it, ive got myself a name so i just need to turn it into a logo! The imagey things at the bottom are just placeholders for now, ill most likely have a border once i chose the images to there, and they will probably be of different dimensions too but thats for the future!

Im not a flash expert but can you use something like:flash/flashfile2.swf?variable1=somethingORflash/flashfile2.php?variable1=somethingwhere the SWF is embedded within HTML inside the PHP file?Just a suggestion anyway it seems using the URL would be sensible if flash has support for GET or url variables.

Ok ive modified it a little (still havent chosen a logo because i havent chosen a name the name iw ant is already taken by a name is australia so i dont know how that works but im going to avoid plagiarising their name!) Ive dulled the orange very slightly, adding an opaque white layer over the top with 5% opacity, i think 10% was too much. Ive also got rid of the content boxes on this one, instead favouring a more open layout with three columns, each column will have a different topic, they wont flow into each other. The grey boxes represent areas where i may put images such as thumbnails that are in the portfolio section, to draw the user around the site rather than letting them sit on the index page all day. Im also thinking a button on that page (in addition to the link in the nav bar) to the contact form, to further drag the user ot the pages i want them to see.But anyway, i like the brightness of the orange, i think it suggests a fresh approach, a bright horizon to the client, a way they can "wake up" to the internet and become part of it. It reminds me of morning sunshine which is refreshing and new etc.... which i think is good!But what do you think?EDIT: SM: I will probably use a background colour for the orange, not an image, probably by using a div set to 800px 100% and colouring that and having the body's BGcolor set to the dark grey. That will minimize loading times and the fixed width with flexible height should make sure i dont get any issues with long content

Aw Im sorry to hear that Im a guy myself and i could honest kill any guy that cheats on his girl (or guy partner if hes gay). My best friend is a girl and she got with a guy (admittedly jealousy may have played a part in this as i was quite fond of her too!) and he was jealous, controlive and abusive to her and basically stopped her talking to me, and then he committed the crime of cheating on her by kissing another girl, thankfully she came to her senses and left him for good (and the story has a happy ending because we even closer now) but the moral of the story is that any guy who cheats on his partner does not deserve the life they were given (not that im saying you should kill him but you get my drift) and they arent worth your tears, or your thoughts, though having said that if anyone asks just tell them he had a small "member" I hope you arent letting yourself get down over him! Hes not worth it! The time will come when you find a guy that will never do that, and that will be the time that idiot regrets what he done. too true...whenever i apply for a web developer job i get the "how strong are you design skills" I dont have any dimwad! Its a programming job not a freaking designer job! Grr.... You are completely right!! It is a habit of mine to have a a side bar, generally a bit of navigation goes in there but ive got that at the top! Doh! (this is why im not a designer ) ill probably delete that. Either that or fill it with a scrolling thumbnail display of my portfolio... You are also right that it does look very basic in a " i downloaded this from the internet" or "Made in Frontpage" look, which isnt the best for a web developer's site... I could get my designer to make me a design, but that would probably involve money! Plus i really need to strengthen my skills and this seems a good opportunity to do so. I too like the crescent around the S because the curves go well together, but i wont be using that as the website's name anyway! The font in the header image will be part of the image itself so theres no worries about that not displaying properly on other systems though its a fair issue about font types in the main page. I will have to look at what fonts linux/mac users have by default, i actually assumed they had Arial as thats usually my default font in case my chosen one doesnt display so ill have to remedy that. Ill take on board everything you said in your first post (i didnt see that when i replied, we mustve been typing at the same time!) and see what i can do, it does look a bit boring at the moment. Ill also stick some dummy text in there too to see how it looks

Thanks, thats basically what i think too, the header is way to empty and plain. I wanted a sort of semi circle sun with rays coming off, in a very block-ish way (EG not blended or anything just a cartoonish white semi circle with rectangle "rays") but i have the idea in my head i just cant get it on to the screen, which is where that weird crescent thing next to the S came from. I do also need a logo, which is something i need to think about. But overall you like the colours and the layout etc? Most importantly, would you be willing to pay for a website (based on your designs) from a site that looks like that? Because if it looks too simply and tacky im going to be very poor

Ok ive decided to put my free hosting to good use once the MyCent takes over, get myself a domain name etc... and start making some money off it. Im a coder by trade so im planning on using the site to advertise my scripts and services and hopefully get a few clients look for a website creation (im working with a designer too who has his own site so if they need a design as well as the coding it can be provided). So im going to make this website. The basic idea is so simple. I want about 5 sections. An "about me" section, "Services" section where i say stuff like "We/I provide custom website creation services including blah blah....", a "contact us" page with contact form(s) a portfolio to showcase my scripts/websites and a terms and conditions page to let the clients know how these things work.As i said im a coder by trade so making the site will be a breeze, once ive chopped up the design i can have the backbone in within a day, but the design is where i fall...being a coder my design skills are very lacking so im proud that i got this far! The orange colour was chosen by my brother, i was going to go blue but the orange really grabs the eye and yet doesnt hurt your eyes. I also really like the light panel idea for containing the text, there would be no colour that could really go directly on to the orange so the panels make it really easy on the eye. Im thinking the text colour in there will be black. The thing im not so sue about is the header of the page (the title "shadowx coding" will be changed, i just dont have a name for it yet) it seems to empty and plain... i dont want to over complicate things, i do want a clean, glass-like (with the highlights on the header etc... (which as it goes i got the inspiration from the T17 header )) fairly simplistic look to the site but i think the header might be TOO empty. Im also going to have a rollover on the links where when the mouse goes over the "about" button for example a small box appears below the link saying something like "Find out more about shadowx-coding" contact us: "contact us by email for a quote or with a query" etc.... Im thinking this box should be a dark grey but ill sort that out later. Anyway my design so far is below. It is copyright to me and must not be copied and used by anyone. If you want to copy it and edit it to help me out then feel free but i need this design to remain unique and so cant be used by anyone for any website. :)EDIT: Ive just uploaded "plan2.jpg" this is the same design obviously but ive reduced the opacity of the gradient at the bottom of the header bar and added in an example rollover box. I think the rollover box might be a bit dark though.... Its the same colour as the background.By the way the dark gray background either side of the orange is only seen on screens bigger than 800x600 the orange panel will have all the content and on an 800x600 screen thats all you see. The dark grey is there to take up the whitespace of bigger screens (because i need it to be compliant with the most common sized screens from 800x600 all the way up an an infinite sized screen.) which do you prefer?

As Tran-Gate said your MyCent is now up and running, its currently about 64 cents, that means your accounts at Xisto billing and the T17 forums are now linked and the money you earn here gets transferred there ever 4-5 hours if it is over 100.Do not change your email address either here or at billing or your accounts will come unlinked (like mine have but we're working on that!)So now you dont need to do anything (unless you apply for hosting or want to change something)

Flash will dramatically increase your wibsite's size and if you have a lot of users the bandwidth will suffer.With a flash site you probably wouldnt have seperate pages, you would have one HTML page which has the flash embedded in it, and then the flash itself would contain different pages.you will not be able to learn flash and create something as good as the web page you linked. That site probably cost several thousand dollars to create because it is extremely good. My advice is, if you're not going to generate money from the site then forget flash, it is far to expensive to buy if its not going to earn you money. Instead use animated Gifs for dynamic images/banners and use Javascript to create pop-up effects (but not popup windows, im talking about clicking a link and the rest of the page dims down and a panel is shown containing text). If you intend on creating your own blog you might need to learn and use PHP or a similar language unless you want to manually edit/create HTML pages each time.Alternatively look on the intergoogle for "adobe flex" it is a free, open source XML style language that is used to create flash files. you manually create code (unless you buy flash builder for like 500 dollars) and then run it through a compiler that turns it into SWF pages. It will take a VERY long time to learn to create stunning effects like the site you linked, however it can do some very cool stuff!
