  1. Ok, I have to chime in here, I am a film student and I know of many different programs that allow you to do things similar to what ILM did for Lord of the Rings, and many other productions that they worked on. There are many different programs that I use on a daily basis. I have a computer in my house with many different hard drives due to the amount of programs that I have, I use Blender, I use Maya, I use Poser, and I use 3DS Max, which are all great 3D animation software. When I started with 3D animation I started with Blender and then slowly advanced to the others by learning new skills and how to manipulate things faster. As for actual Special Effects software, I use Photoshop to do some discoloring of objects or coming up with backgrounds which I will put in place of a green or blue screen. These backgrounds look as real as real can get because I learned different brushing techniques and things like that due to fact that I study photo editing, and I use Photoshop to do so, therefore, I must make them look as real as possible. Also I use Adobe After Affects to add things and green/blue screen my scenery into my pictures. For some cool looking titles, I use the one and only Windows Movie Maker, it isn't the greatest software, but it does what I need it to do. As for actual editing software, I use Final Cut Pro, Avid Xpress DV, and Adobe Premiere Pro. I also use some patches and software that I developed to do certain projects, but they are outdated to the point where they do not run on any modern computer, they are just 100% dead. Otherwise, you can do some good stuff with all these programs which cost a good deal of money when you buy them all. As for DVD editing, I use Adobe Encore DVD, and DVD Studio. They are amazing programs, and with them, you can render things like LOTR, but on a less budgeted and quality scale. Also, it get's difficult if you have a blue screened set, and you are trying to superimpose things over it, because of motion capture, and you need to be really good at it. So I suggest that before you go making a full motion picture, you try it out and just do some test stuff with movement of camera and superimposement first. It actually helps, and it is good for future reference on how you do things. I am glad to give info on this, so yeah, talk to you later! ~Turn Off The Light~
  2. I am proud to announce, that I as a student programmer, am actually working on a project like what you described you were in need of. Which is really interesting, because I am developing a compact Operating System, that happens to just be a giant media player. It will only play music, due to the fact that I am planning on using it as a stereo. Of course, the hard drive in the computer I select to use will be shared on my network, so that I can move the music that I want on it, to it, but what I might also do, is have it so that you can rip a CD to the hard drive. I am almost done with the planning stage of it, and am already involved in the programming stage. I am willing to share it with you when it is finished. I will be glad to give you a copy to try, and if you like it, I will keep you updated on any advancements in the system files, or updates on the software. If you are interested in learning more, give me a personal message or e-mail me at Nitemovz@gmail.com, I am always willing to answer the questions of people who find out about my project. I am always willing to help fellow computer people, even if they are not involved in programming, I believe that any person should have complete control over their computer. If you want it to be a music/media player, why should you have to go through all of the trouble to purchase a computer that has Windows or MacOSX on it, when you can just buy(donate)/download the operating system that will allow you to have what you want. That's right, it isn't going to cost you a dime except for what you donate to help the continuation of production. I am not making it open source, but it is free. I feel that this is something that I would like to keep to myself, since most of the projects that I make are open source. Let me know if you are interested! ~Turn Off The Light~
  3. Here are a few sonnets that I wrote for a project in my British Literature Class in school. Please comment on them, and let me know what you think! I would really appreciate feedback through PM(Personal Message) or by replies on the post.Well here they are...01.The morning breeze sends ripples over the lake, with them arrives the cherished thought of you.I take a tranquil stoll in pure love's wake;whence it comes, where it goes, one finds no clue.So silently, what in my heart I rear!a lot I'd bear but why such desolationshould creep upon well meaning words I hearfrom you, oh dear, why such strange apparitionsShould plunge into the whirlpool of our dreams,When past and present interwined resolveAmidst a sea of mortal laughs and screams,Old passions seethe our souls, new ones evolve.I think of you - don't take my thoughts amiss -,If words lack truth, I'll prove it with a kiss.02.My absence from you renders absence wrong,As if an April day of frozen rain,Whose sun in such a scene does much belong,That sun and season reunite again. What strident force of nature drives me here,Like brazen buds surviving through the snow,Still striving up that nourishment be near,To seek above, so what's beneath may grow.Is nature's way confounded that I'm soPerverse to feel the warmth behind the cloudThat bids me on to seek what does not show,Admitting rays of hope through hopeless shroud. The sun obscured is nonetheless as true,And so am I, though far away from you.03.In the dark and cold of my despair,Like a tree in barren latency,With no loving sun or hopeful air,Love remained alive in want of theeThrough the snow and rain of distancingEver closse my passion did remainLoving you with praise of you to singSilent yearning, missing to reclaimBut as surely as the winter turns,Trees to shed their wan and grey disguise,Loving sun of you has now returnedI to bloom with flowers in your eyesThough the season changes, each anew,Changless is my heart in loving you. Please comment on them, I could really use the feedback! Thanks alot,~Turn Off The Light~
  4. Well, see since I personally own an iPod, I would have to say that it is an amazing MP3 player due to the fact that it can be used as a calendar, a contact book, a note book(when notes are put on it) and an MP3 player, now they are able to play movies, so that makes them even better! So in my opinion, iPods are the best thing to go with for an MP3 player. Oh yeah, they even act as a mobile hard drive! They tend to be expensive though, so check out your options and consider what you are doing before you buy one, you might not be able to afford one, or you might buy one and you might not like it! So just think before you buy! ~Turn Off The Light~
  5. I totally agree that Microsoft isn't the greatest company in the world, but because they have the brains that started them, they were able to take over the industry, almost completely. See when Bill Gates started Microsoft, he didn't start it with a blank screen on his computer. He started it by purchasing an operating system from someone, which was called DOS. He then took that and then changed it and developed onto it to make it what it is today! They are only doing what they have felt was necessary to bring them out of their garage and become a company. So therefore Microsoft being bound within the legal limits of that Disk Operating System that they purchased, it wasn't theirs to change. But yet they did it anyway! You can go on the internet and find something called a de-compiler, adn then de-compile the programs you have and see the source code. Many people take the time to do things like that. I mean, if you really aren't happy with being confined withing the restrictions that Microsoft sets for you, then make a difference, and don't complain. I have some software that I have written or found online, that I have changed. My entire computer runs on open source software except for the version of Windows XP operating system. For example. If you don't like the way Microsoft Office works or limits you, then you can go to http://www.openoffice.org/ and download that! You can get the source code for it and then make the different changes that you want. I don't mean to be complaining. But when people complain about Microsoft or open source, I am usually right there with them, because a group of my friends are trying to attemp to bring our world to an Open Source world. We are not doing it for money! We are doing it to bring the freedom of controling your computer to the world. Not being limited to the restraints that someone sets for you! It is your computer! You should be able to control your computer, so therefore, an open source society will make life alot easier! If you then want to join a team of Open Source Programmers, you should make a post that will make it known that you are trying to make a difference. Or even produce a website for your projects so that you can bring the world, or community into knowing that Open Source is here! Trust me, it is here! Thanks for listening to my ranting and raving, but Windows and Microsoft are not that bad of a company. Linux is amazing, I use it at school for my movie productions. Along with Mac OSX, which is also a great OS, things like this are bringing the world together. ~Turn Off The Light~
