Best Online game? Which is your favourite Online game?
chinfo replied to Torch89's topic in Computer Gaming
MU Online is my choice, as its totally free (at east for now) and its purely online. Ragnarok Online is too childish when it comes to graphics and visual effects, at the same time too complicated in terms of the game system for an immersing gameplay. -
If I didn't know better, I'd say tie it down Pls. do explain.
-
It does have its uses, like an info page or quick registration that isn't worth having a whole page to load. But pop-up ADs is another matter.

Makers of various browsers can choose what features their browser supports. As Microsoft often like to think they're web-trendsetters, they stuff IE with bling-blings that may or may not be seen as "innovative" by others.

Just recieved this a couple of hours ago, I thought you should be aware of this. For those that fail to understand what this is, the above is another flavor of the infamous Nigerian online scamming scheme. Despite efforts to curbed this kind of swindling, they're still out there. So how can we recognize its a scam, based on the example above? For one thing, they call themselves as "top" officials, but in reality no high-ranking government official - even the egomaniac ones - would label themselves as "top," simply "government official." Another is that, if they truly are government ministers, then why on earth would they stoop on this kind of correspondence? Secretaries handle these and those have above-average skills in spelling and grammar, clearly not something like the above. They also claimed that they learned of me from this International Business Directory Service, which I have never heard of before much less a member of. Note also that this time they had not asked for cash or payment up front...but the twist is they say they need your personal and company info, which is even more risky than coughing up money. This is just one of many, many variations. Beware

That script, or more specifically the behavior it supports, its useless as there a lot of ways to get around the no right button trick. Copyright concerns are legitimate, but it also annoys visitors if you try to control any of the functionality inherent to their end.

Patches and updates are free...well relatively free that is, coz you have to have internet connection to get it, worth some 80MB! On the subject of re-registration that Shackman brought up, since there are now pirated XP OS's available with integrated SP2 (beta), that wouldn't deter anyone from buying bootleg copies and having SP2 at the same time.

A new OS a new operating system from microsoft ?
chinfo replied to psp-playstation's topic in Operating Systems
Other third-party software can do that easily, without the bugs too. And your admin can't debug it by themselves, unless they have explicit permission, because that's a violation of most commercial software copyrights, the primary distinction as oppose to "open-source." -
I don't get it why Microsoft makes a big deal out of a "patch" or "service pack", it only underscores the fact that their products are indeed major security risks for consumers. Also, for all the hype to this XP2, I wouldn't be surprised if new security loopholes crop up in the next few weeks.

You DON'T have to make a portal, gladiator. There are already premade portal systems that you can implement almost instantly, and they're called CMS's (content management system) Here are examples: PHP-Nuke Xoops Mambo Open Source PHPWebsite PostNuke WebGUI You can Google them to take you to their official sites or mirror ones. Note that they use one scripting language or another. If you're not comfortable using scripts, then you can try free portal templates offered by free sites. You can used these templates to simplify you site foundation. But if you're looking for a good portal system, try one of those above.

Just put these ns1.trap17.com and ns2.trap17.com, and wait about 12-24 hours to let it propagate. That's all there's to it, at least in most cases. And do try to check the forums first for similar topics

I don't run my own server so I test all server-side scripts through the web host. Testing your scripts locally is deemed good practice, but the logistics involved in running your own server beats down the practicality value at the moment. Also, sometimes your local server may run scripts differently than your actual host.

Help with an Error maybe my lack of inexperience
chinfo replied to The Devils Playpen's topic in Programming
It seems its the SQL connection that has a problem. You're server host is "Lee-Kelley," but the default server host for Xisto is "localhost" you can try to use that. -
What I meant was when your board becomes bigger and bigger you'll encounter different kinds of people, some hardcore sociopaths who love nothing more than to cause as much trouble within your community, some ugly fights break out---you know, that administrative crap you have to put up with and give you headaches. South-east Asians, like you and me, have a different perpective on such attitude. On the issue of inviting people for forums, one of the best way is to roam around online groups that share the main interest of your message board. Example, gaming, then search around Yahoo!Groups or GoogleGroups or chat groups and invite (not advertise) people, and if they like it, they'll spread the word themselves...instant advertisement! At least, in our case, it worked successfully.

Well they're still starting after all, it'll take a while before they'll get the member base that they want...and then start wishing it should never gotten so large But I agree, dish out different forums according to the demand and need of your users.

What Programming Languages ASP CGI JSP PHP C/C++ ...
chinfo replied to eforumhongkong's topic in Programming
I was forced to learn coldfusion and ASP before, but I've seen the light with Javascript and PHP so I conveniently forgot everything I learned from them for good. -
Anytime, buddy, glad to help.
-
Nope, you have to edit something in the registry to do that, and that may cause something else to mess up. Also, I think the link there had a custom error page to trigger the pop-up. So it may not be true to every same error you encounter.
-
Oh I see...you're calling a specific file on a sub-directory. Its a 404 Error, meaning the file does not exist. It has nothing to do with your browser. The file must have been deleted, moved, or the link is wrong.
-
Can you tell us what exactly the Error Message say?
-
Its maybe because your settings, like Security and Privacy settings do not permit the site's content. If you don't want to recieve alerts you can right click the IE icon on the desktop then Properties or in the browser window go to Tools>Internet Options, either way brings up the Internet Options control box. Click the Advanced Tab, and do the following: -Check the option: Disable Script Debugging -Uncheck the option: Display a notification for every script error Press Apply, then Ok. That's about it. Make sure also that your cookie handling isn't set too high.

You need DVD authoring programs like Adobe Premiere, Pinnacle Studio 8 or Movie Factory to do that.
-
You forgot to place stevey and Shackman, they're Mods as well.
-
Nope, I do not. I'm in the opinion that as long you something substantive to say, how this forums looks is of little significance.
-
Well, I for one don't question the right of the admins and mods to moderate in exercise of their authority. But I think the problem lies in how they moderate, coz people take it differently, sometimes personally.
