  1. The finishing touch is to connect the little electric plug of the fan to the matching electric connector on the computer board.
  2. The construction of a new computer Chapter 12: The processor fan Thermal paste and thermal grease The next step is to put one drop of thermal paste the size of a rice grain or particle on top of the middle of the processor. Another possibility is to cover the complete surface of the top of the processor with thermal grease. The grease and the paste are ment to conduct the warmth the processor generates to the heath block that will be connected on top of the processor. The next step is to have a look at the connectors of the fan. There are two notches on both sites of the socket of the processor. A hole in each connector fits under each notch. So the idea is to hold the fan in the right position to be able to fit the connectors in place when the fans is placed on top of the processor. There should be room to move the handle of the connector downwards. The step after the former step is to hold the fan above the processor. When the position is right the fan can be moved downwards. A firm pressure is needed. When the fan is in the right position the two clips can be attached to the two notches. The handle can be moved up and downwards to fasten the clips that hold the fan in position and bind the fan to the socket of the processor.
  3. Google Android Operating Program Installed on a netbook A computer shop advertices with the offer of a netbook of Acer with Google Android as second operating program. The funny thing is that a confirmation of this information is not on the website of Acer. A brochure of the webshop shows the model of Acer called: Aspire One D255. The operating programs are Windows 7 and Google Android. So it seems Google Android found its way from the mobile phone to the mobile computer. Other features are: Intel Atom Processor N450 1.66 Gigaherz Webcam Wireless internet receiver Microsoft Office Starter 2010 10.1 inch screen 250 gigabyte hard disk 1 gigabyte internal memory unit(s) Windows 7 Starter Google Android The netbook costs $ 410,--. Since the offer is foun in a brochure on paper there is no link available. The website of Acer shows the model with Windows 7 Starter and Windows XP.

  5. Instructions about the construction of a new computer Chapter 11 The placing of the processor Put a towel on the table. Lay the case on its side on the towel. The towel prevents the outside of the case from getting scratches. Use a wrest band attached to a ground metal part to avoid electric issues. The side plate of the case can be opened. Open the site plate. Lay the site plate aside. Screw the distance holders screws in the back plate of the case. Each distance holder screw has to match one hole in the computer board. Attach just as much holes like as there are in the computer board. Don't attach more distance holder screws. That might influence the capacity to construct computer parts and connections. The plate might bent. And don't attach more distance holder screws than there are holes in the computer board. A distance holder screw that doesn't match a hole in the computer board might cause an electric shortcut in the main board. The screw might touch the electric print lines or a metal electric contact point of the underside of the computer board. Put the back plate in the case. The back plate has openings for the back external connectors of the computer board. The back plate covers the space between the external connectors of the computer board. Put the computer board in the case. Make sure the external connectors fit into the corresponging holes of the back plate. Make sure the computer board rests on the distance holder screws. Check to see if the holes of the computer board match the holes of the distance holder screws. Make sure the holes on top of the distance holders are visible trough the holes of the computer board. Make sure that the computer board is in the right position towards the back plate and towards the distance holders. Screw the little screws into the holes of the computer board and into the distance holder screws. Don't put too much pressure on the screws and the screw driver. Don't break the computer board. Place the dvd writer in a bay with the size and the wide of 5.25 inch. Attach the dvd writer firmly to the dvd writer bay with four little screws. Place the hard disk in a bay for a 3.5 inch device. Attach the hard disk with four little screws to the bay of the case. Open the handle next to the processor socket. Pull the handle gentle upwards till it points straight into the air. Watch the pins on the processor if using an AMD processor. Have a look to the holes in the processor socket. The position of the holes and of the pins should match. There is a little arrow in one of the corners of the underside of the processor. That arrow should match a little triangle arrow in one of the corners of the processor socket. A good look at the pattern of the pins and the holes helps too. Hold the processor horizontal above the processor socket. Make sure the pins match the holes. Make sure the four lines of outer pins match the four lines of outer holes of the socket. Move the processor slowly downwoards. Feel that the pins slide into the holes of the processor. If the pins of the processor fit gentle into the holes of the socket press the processor softly downwoards. Press gentle till the pins of the processor fit completely into the holes of the socket. Keep the processor in place and down with the fingers of one hand. Pull the handle of the socket down with the other hand. Attach the handle under the little button at the side of the socket. Extra care is needed. A lot of self builders bent one or more of the little pins when putting the processor in place. This might damage the processor. Sometimes the processor works fine withour one or withour more little pins. The best is to make sure that the pins fit all correctly into the holes of the socket.
  6. The comment that it is very usefull to post links to the information found on the internet is about the start post. When things are told about information found on the internet it is handy for other people to be able to have a look at the information themselves so they can have a better understanding of the information and the implications the information on a website has. Sometimes the visit of a website makes things more clear compared to judge only by the information and the description of the information written in a post.
  7. The tutorial in the link dates from November 9, 2006. This tutorial is 10 years old. Reaching the hard disk using DOS is possible with a boot floppy made by a Windows 98 computer too. The first link of the website of the link leads to a website that states: This means the tool to format the usb stick is not available. The first link is supposed to link to a website that offers the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. The second link works. The third link goes to a webpage that offers Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (32 bit). It is a bit unclear what the use of this Service Pack is for an usb stick which should contain Windows 98.
  8. There are more options available concerning the bios. Some computer boards have two bios chips. They offer the opportunity to store the settings of the bios. So if the update goes wrong there is always the possibility to regain the original setting of the bios.Replacement of the chip that contains the bios is pretty hard when the chip is attached firmly to the computer board. Chips that can be moved from the motherboard are maybe a bit rare. It seems the companies that offer to replace the chip don't charge high prices. The price of a new chip has to be under the price of a new motherboard. Otherwise it is not usefull to replace the chip.
  9. It seems that it is not possible to download a zip file in order to make a bootable usb stick. The stick needs to be prepared to make it a bootable usb stick. And the installation program of Windows XP needs to be uploaded on the usb stick. So there is probably no direct need to upload zip files that make the antivirus program beep. With posts about information about things found on the internet most of the time it is handy to post the links to the websites where the information and the files to download were found. A link makes it possible for the helpfull fellow member of the forum to have a look at the suspicious website. After having a look at the suspicious website it is much more possible to give some founded advice about the situation. It might be possible that the sites were telling that they were offering Windows 98 files while in reality the files are virusses, trojan horses and such programs. There are a lot of websites that offer operating programs. There are a lot of websites that offer virusses, key loggers, trojan horses, spy software and other bad files. The size of the file can give an indication about the content of the file. A virus has probably a much smaller content compared to an operating program. The links in the posts are about Windows operating programs like Windows XP and Windows Vista and Windows 7. The specific question for a Windows 98 usb boot stick was overlooked.
  10. A fast look is made to the websites that open when the links are clicked upon.At a first look the websites seem to offer usefull information.
  11. Google Google increased the revenue in the months July, August and September 2010 compared to the same months in 2009. The total benefits these three months reached $ 2,170,000,000. The total income was $ 7,290,000,000. One of the directors of Google, mr Eric Schmidt, called those three months: 'Excellent.' Google spends a lot of money for new developments. Google is active with mobile phones, internet television and self driving cars. http://www.catholic.org/news/technology/story.php?id=38753 Actually this means almost 1/3 of the income is revenue for Google. This means that the effort Google makes to earn money does't have a rate that occurs in most other companies. This means the costs Google makes to earn its revenue are pretty low compared to the income and the revenue. One can argue that this means that the rates of Google are too high. According to these figures Google charges too much for its business and its services. The costs for Google advertisments seem to be low. Because a low of amount of money is asked for 1 click and 1 text advertisement. But with a big amount of clicks and a lot of times the advertisement is shown the costs for the company that wants to advertise with Google advertisements are soon very high. The same thing can be said about Microsoft. Comparisions of the two companies Google and Microsoft show some alikenesses. Both companies have a sort of monopoly on their markets. And both companies ask a lot of money for their products and their services compared to the costs the two companies make to earn their income. The future for both companies look the same. It seems hard for a competing company to become bigger then Google and Microsoft. The discovery of a new search engine will take a lot of time and expenses. And building a new operating system and the introduction of it is not something that seems to happen in the very nearby future.
  12. Tutorial about how to build a computer Part 10. The computer board In the list of the needed computer components is a computer board mentioned. The list is taken from the view that the computer board has the mATX form. This means the computer board contains an audio unit, a video unit and a network connection. When an ATX form computer board is used the builder needs a graphical card. A seperate graphical card is recommended for computer users who want to play games. The ATX form computer board might need a network card too. And a seperate audio card might increase the sound quality. A computer board is seen as like a plate of artificial material, that doesn't conduct electricity, on which are built electionic parts, a bios chip, connectors, a processor socket and slots for memory units and cards. The electric wiring is printed on the computer board. The bios chip is attached to the board too. The computer board has connectors for electricity for the processor fan, case fans, computer board and the processor, the loud speaker of the case, the start button, the reset button, light for the hard disk and a light to show the computer is on. USB connectors, SATA 2 and eventually SATA 3 connectors and connectors for a floppy drive and a PATA hard disk are on the computer board too. Other connectors might be on the board too. The computer board has probably some external connectors too. Like for a: 1. network 2. microfone 3. loud speakers 4. USB 5. Esata 6. Mouse 7. Key board 8. Monitor 9. Other connectors are possible too.
  13. How to build a new computer Part 9: The components Things needed to build a new computer: 1. case 2. computer board. 3. processor. 4. power unit. 6. internal memory unit. 6. hard disk or an solid state disk. 7. processor fan. 8. distance keeper screws. 9. screws. 8. optical drive, like a dvd writer. 9. internal cables. 10. external electrical wires. Other things needed: 1. software a. an operating program. Examples are Windows 7 Home Basic and Ubuntu b. text editor 2. screw driver 3. warmth conductance fluid or pasta 4. the manual of the computer board 5. the cd of the computer board 6. Mouse 7. Key board 8. Monitor 9. Loud speakers For an internet connection': 9. Modem. 10. Modem-computer cable. 11. Internet subscription.
  14. It is recommended to keep the topic open and visible at the forum. The link to smartdots works. And the site of smartdots seems promising and interesting. The site seems to offer domain names with .net.tc for free.
  15. Please describe what happens when the startbutton is pressed. Does the laptop start? Does something show up on the screen? Do the lights shine? Does the fan turn around? Does the hard disk make any noise? Please give more information. Please read the topic about how to repair a computer. Is there an operating program installed on the computer after the formatting attemps? What happens when a dvd or a cd with an operating program is put into the cd player or dvd writer? 16. How to repair your computer? Part 4: The processor Five ways to find out if the processor is broken. 1. View. 2. Take out. 3. Temperature. 4. Change. 5. New. 1. View. Have a look at the processor. Is it mounted straight into the socket? Is the processor fan attached straight to the processor? Is the processor attached firmly into the socket? Is the lock handle closed? 2. Take out. Take the processor out of the socket. Turn the processor upside down. Have a look at the little pins at the bottom of the processor. Check if all pins are straight. Check to see if all pins are present. Make sure no pin is bended. Make sure no pin is missing. 3. Temperature. Feel in the neighbourhood of the processor. Feel if there is an extreme heath radiature. The processor can reach a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius before the processor turns itself off. Download a software program to measure the temperature of the processor. An example of a software program to test the temperature is FanSpeed. 4. Replacement. When all the other components are checked out an if all the other components are excluded from being the cause of the problem and if there is a big assumption that the processor is broken the suspicious processor can be placed into a working computer. It is also possible to replace the suspicious processor by a working processor from another working computer. 5. New. A way to test if the processor works fine is to build a new processor into the socket of the computer board. If the computer works fine with the new processor the old processor might be suspicious.
  17. The general way is to prepare the usb-stick so it becomes a boot device. The second step is to store the dos file on the usb-stick. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.intowindows.com/bootable-usb/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ https://www.engadget.com/
  18. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The information in the quote states that the computer board is put into the risk of getting damaged when the bios is updated. Fluctuations in the power supply can ruin the software program that is called the bios. During common and usual use of the computer fluctuations in the electric power supply of the computer do no harm to the computer. The update of the bios puts the computer under a higher risk to stop running. On this behalf it is recommended to leave the bios like it is and to decide not to upgrade the bios if there is no necessity to upgrade the bios. The upgrade of the bios can probably be usefull when new components are added into the computer. Like when another processor, another hard disk or a solid state disk are built into the computer the computer board might need an update of the bios. This might result in a computer board that runs like expected when the computer board uses the new components. If the bios faces problems there is another solution. This approach can be used before the bios is updated. Before updating the bios it can be handy to reset the bios. The bios can be put back to the factory settings. Reasons for the bios to work badly can be repaired when the original factory settings are installed back. If the bios and the computer board and the computer work fine after the resetting of the factory settings there is probably no need to update the bios.
  19. An update of the bios is risky. The changes and the possibilities that something goes wrong are big. One of the reasons is that computer owners who don't know the right way to upgrade the bios still try to upgrade the bios of their computer. And since lots of things can go wrong when the bios gets updated they usually do go wrong if the computer owner doesn't know exactly what to do. One of the tricky things is that the bios is a small program. This program starts the computer board. The bios then starts the hard disk and the operating program. So the computer needs the bios to run. This small program that is called the bios is stored in a chip. This chip is attached to the computer board. This means that when the bios gets corrupted it is very hard to replace the chip that contains the bios. It is probably needed to replace the complete computer board if the bios gets waisted and if the bios can't be repaired anymore. When the right methods are followed the updating of the bios doesn't give any problem. Like the other member says in the other post, when the computer works fine there is no special need to update the bios. So if the computer runs fine there is no need to try to upload another version of the bios. One of the risks is that the computer board doesn't work fine with the new bios. So computer boards can have the option to safe the existing bios. This needs to be done before the bios is updated. The storage of the old bios version makes it possible to put the old bios back into the chip of the computer board if the new bios doesn't work properly. There are probably several tutorials available on the internet about updating the bios. It seems the bios can for instance be updated using an usb-stick and a floppy. 20. The construction of a new computer, part 8. Overview The steps once again The construction of a new computer starts with the choise of the computer board. New computer boards have USB 3.0 and Sata 3. These connections are faster compared to USB 2.0 and Sata 2. Modern computer boards designed for processors made by Amd have a socket for an AM3-processor. Some people think that the chipset influences the speed. They think that the latest chipset is supposed to provide the highest speed. Other people say that the chipset doesn't influence the speed. The processor is chosen with the goal to fit in the socket of the computer board. The socket is the place for the processor on the computer board. The computer board decides what internal memory unit needs to be used.
  21. The use of a wired internet connection brings probably the highest speed the internet connection offers.
  22. It seems it is not possible to post the link to the website of amazon.com with the the complete list of Intel processors.
  23. Building a computer, part 7: The price of a processor Newegg is a bit wellknown by users of the internet. Newegg offers among other stuff computer components. The cheapest Celeron dual core processor made by Intel costs $ 51,99. The cheapest processor with four cores costs $ 149,99. So from the point of the budget the dual core processor costs less. A dual core processor works fine with a lot of tasks. For mosts tasks a quad core processor doesn't offer much more profits. It is possible that a quad core processes heavy multi tasks faster. So the picture of a dual core processor of Intel is chosen because a dual core processor is suitable for a budget computer. Dual core processor Celeron dual core processor Pentium dual core processor Quad core processor Quad core processor Complete list of newegg.com Newegg ships to the United States and Puorto Rico only. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/https://www.amazon.com/ The cheapiest dual-core processor of Intel costs $ 64,95 รข $ 67,99 at amazon.com.
