  1. Yeah, I saw that too a while ago. Very funny. I've fried 3 dells. Had the infamous SmartStep 200n. First time there was really something wrong with it and the keyboard melted. They sent me a new one and it kept overheating and dying when I wanted to play games it should have been able to do like Empire Earth (awesome). I had to put a tupperware full of water in the freezer and then under my computer . Anyway, I got it replaced with the 5150 I have now, only the motherboard fried about 1/2 year ago and I had to have the board replaced. Moral - if you're going to buy a Dell, stick with a desktop!
  2. Lol, reminds me of the computer stupidities site. It's full of actual peole saying stuff like this to their tech reps. http://rinkworks.com/stupid/
  3. Pretty cool buttons! I was never much good with photoshop:( The only thing i'd suggest is playing around a little with the font, and maybe even giving the text a pattern/color that contrasts better like lonebyrd said.
  4. Personally, i find this kind of URL behavior annoying. Do you have a good reason for needing it, because sometimes it makes it hard to copy for links and stuff like that, and to bookmark.
  5. That is exactly how I am. I find it fairly hard to do the grammar stucff in school, and the mistakes in the book I don't get, but I notice everything in the real world that counts. It seems like even my (very good) English teachers may not be using some of the rules (like whom all the time, or he when it should be him), but I can get by and my writing can look intelligent if I want it to.
  6. One time I was on a site (can't remember which) where some wierd guy sent a complaint letter to the webmaster, entirely in 1337 speak!! I thought it had died out, but apparently not. My guess is that it was actually a VERY tiny subculture of people, which has gotten a little more attention than it deserves because of the way that they type. I read that it was designed to look like binary files to "un-initiated" people! What are they hiding? Multiple forum posts of "Jooz noobz"? Cracks of doom 1.0? The idea is just stupid. And with regaurd to the people who point it out, maybe they think it makes their penis larger??(feel free to edit that if it isn't allowed moddies)
  7. Yes, it is that. There are so many new phones coming out lately. I have even seen ones with fingerprint recognition! Much of it I think is un-necessary. For example, even with old-fashioned cameras families usually end up with way more photos than they'll ever want to look at. With camera phones. people are taking pictures all the time and uploading them to their websites. It's cool, but it's also very stupid when you actually think about it. The camera is just a gimik, like text-messaging was. It actually doesn't make as much sense as it seems like it should (which would you rather do? talk to a person via voice or write cryptic messages like iwill w8 4u @ 930 dwn bi da dox, b there). This is another long-winded opinion, but hey it's the internet. I can say whatever I want
  8. I just use my browser. I didn't even know that so many people had developed apps to allow you to download better! Do you think I should get one, or stick with firefox (about the only big files I ever download are Linux distros i'm trying out, so i'm leaning towards no). Also, do you have to launch them seperately or do they come up automatically when you click a download link?
  9. I have GeoForce that came with my lapop, and I like it, but I don't really know much about this whole thing. I'm not a big gamer, so the main tax on my Nvidia card is using the multiple desktops it allows me to have. BTW BitShift That has to be a VERY popular signature! I have seen it many times on different forums.

That's a problem you always get with forums. Many times your better looking on a blog because all the answers are condensed and people expect to search for them. I visit forums because i like the side conversations that start as a result of an un-related topic
  11. I also find things like this very interesting, I was just pointing out that sometimes work is based on defining things only so they can be put into a nice little category, rather than finding out more.BTW your post was very deep
  12. Maybe you should give more details about your prospective site so people can suggest. What kind of community do you want to attract? What is your goal? Do you want to make ad money from the site? Stuff like that. I suggest only because your post seems pretty vague.

I am sure there are many CMS that do that, I know when I was on MSN groups <groan> many years ago they allowed it. That is the main point of any members login, is it not?
  14. I'm a youth, and i wouldn't want lime green and black particularly, although it depends on how it's doen. A guy i know on the web used GuppY CMS with lime green foregronund and black bg around the areas where the content was. I think the text was blue. It hurt my eyes to check the site for updates, so i finally got him to change it. Now it's orange, which is a little better. He likes bright colors i guess
  15. Well it seems wierd how they were first wanting to take away pluto, and now they're adding planets. It all boils down to arbitrary definitions of what makes a planet. Very strange the way scientists' minds work, isn't it.
  16. I know this is a strange suggestion, but maybe you should try turning off your screensaver if you have one at all. One of my PCs running XP kept turning off every 5 mins and it was a strange un-fixable bug with the screen saver. My dad had to go into RegEdit to turn it off, but now it works fine as long as there is no screen saver. Wierd, huh!
  17. Yeah I think I saw a show about this. There is a machine at the bottom of many of them which immediately compacts the trash and moves it to a smell-sealed container. I think if you put it in the rooms, though, the murder rate might increase because it would be so easy to push someone in. :Djust kidding
  18. I really dont mind when people mis spell words or make little errors, and simple chat speak is okay (like LOL, w8, u, 4), but I think 1337 makes you look like an idiot. It just takes too much time to read, and its almost always garbage. You dont often see much leetspeek anymore, and i think that is a good thing. One Thing I Find Really Annoying Is Those People Who Type Like This, Where Every Word Is A Capital Letter! This is really annoying (both for the reader and your pinkies), and there is absolutely no reason for it. All caps is better than this, because at least it gives the eye an idea of what to expect. On the flipside, I HATE people who are always correcting little mistakes. For instance, in this post I havent been using apostrophes. This is because for some reason FireFox has chosen to open the page search box when I hit them (an intermittent bug). Would I want people to point it out, NO! Forums are about conversation and building a community (and for Astra showing ads), not a seminar on correct grammar and spelling. Thanks if you read this REALLY long post, I finally decided to voice my opinions on this topic.
  19. Yes, i see to many cons:People walking around talking to air.The thing hurting your ear (you ears can really star to hurt from wearing headphones, like when i would playe Myst III for several hours.)Plus if it malfunctioned, like that exploding dell laptop (or even just overheated a little) it could really cause a problem (although this point is very unlikely). Also, I have personally never found a voice recognition system up to my standards.
  20. Astrahost is the best OUT OF THESE. I really like XetaSpace better, but it doesn't give me MYSQL, so for my MYSQL hosting needs i will use Astra. All the other ones in the poll are no contest. Most of them are nooby, and Geocities is the most annoying, crippled piece of -- uh -- garbage i have ever seen!! I am always surprised that people use these when they can get a perfectly good ad free host somewhere else. I am also surprised these sites make any money from their ads because their members content often sucks!EDITI also don't like the way Astra takes out credits every day. It makes sense from a business perspective, but i think it is kind of wrong to try to make too much money from a free host. I wonder how much AstraSpace has?
  21. That's cool, in a sick kind of way. I know a guy who downloads huge files from BitTorrent, things like GTA clones (he has dial-up too), and then he thinks he *might* have a virus when there are popups all over his screen. So the real question here is, how often do you guys wipe your hard drives? I never do, but i have nothing to steal.
  22. I didn't know COBOL was still around (says the kid who used to use Qbasic). What is it used for these days?
  23. "You have to remember though that Mac's are still all the same hardware, everything could be programmed to work on very specific hardware. Windows isn't like that, it runs on just about anything you throw at it."This is the major point. Mac controls the hardware and the software, so they can do pretty much anything they want. Now with the macintels, my understanding is that has changed, but i'm not sure if you can run OSX on a Dell even now. One thing I find funny is that for years Mac told everyone that their processors were better and faster, and now they have completely switched. It seems like mac junkies would be mad about it, doesn't it.I'm not saying Windows is perfect either, but thy're both too focused on eye candy and things to entice new users. At least you can strip all this away with Linux!
  24. Anyone ever heard of NextStep, it's what OS X is built on and I think it is better. I am very interested in the development of GUI oses, and i have read about NeXT and RISC. They both seem to be very cool, and in some ways alot nicer than Windows and Mac. Anyone here used them or have any opinions?
  25. That was pretty funny! I learned so many new words to use when i'm talking with the guys who run my local wawa. Just kidding
