  1. Web accelerators also compress the data, and use other methods to try to speed it up.

    Easy PHP

I can't really tell what this is supposed to do (it looks like it was machine translated), but it seems like a full IDE+server package to develop PHP on your desktop right? Anyone know of anything like that for Perl that I can use?
  3. I don't think there are any niches left. They've all been done:Advanced matching system (check)Obvious domain name (check)Targeted to a specific group/ethnicity of people (check)Dr. Phil (check)Yep, I think they've all been done
  4. Yes, a firewall is an absolute necessity, and don't think "windows firewall" will do the job for you either, because it is an m$ product and it's just there to make you feel good
  5. Wow! I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a good VPS account for that price! 5 megs!!! I think that's about what I used to have when I had an MSN group 7 years ago! You can tell that this is just designed to rip off n00bs who want a "cool" site to show their friends and automatically assume they need to pay for hosting! Very, very sad.
  6. Does this slow down your computer at all? Does anyone know of ones to avoid that are adware/spyware because I would be interested in trying skins for XP but I thought they were mostly buggy/spyware.
  7. Just curious to see, what's the most credits anyone has on this forum? Is anyone actually able to go a year without posting?I'm just interested to see cuz I only have 20
  8. I have tried Trillian, and hated it. Maybe the pro version is better, but there's alot about the interface I don't like. I use Google Talk mainly, but I also use GAIM so I can communicate on AIM, my Yahoo messenger (I don't really know anyone on Yahoo so i'ts not that useful), and GT at once. I don't like the look of GAIM though because it reminds me of the look of AIM which, once I moved on, I discovered I didn't really like. I really wish that GAIM looked like Google Talk, then i would use it only forever :DI have never tried ICQ, but it sounds interesting. MSN sucks, like all things from MSN!
  9. If you like it you should think about putting a reveiw in the review section (you get lots of credits too I think!)
  10. AIM is AOL's instant messenger (AOL is America Online, one of the largest internet providers for noobs) GT is Google Talk, you should download it beause it's not got a lot of features, but it is simple and elegant. Google Talk uses the popular Jabber protocol to send instant messages. GAIM is a 3rd party cilient, which can allow you to use accounts with almost any service and have multiple ones logged in at once (IE you can have your MSN and Yahoo in the same window with different logos for your buddies). There are other programs that do basically the same as GAIM, such as Trillian, but I prefer GAIM because it's fairly easy to set up and completely free (where as to get some features you have to upgrade Trillian).I use AIM because most of my friends have it, but really I hate AOL so if you don't have anyone to contact on it don't download it! (plus there's ads and spyware in it).
  11. Looks nice, I wouold introduce it maybe if my site had lots of traffic already, but it would look sad there if it was just empty and nobody used it :DThat's the main problem I see with many chat rooms like IRC on sites, also they sometimes add significantly to the loading time of a page.
  12. Web accellerators are mostly just a gimick for people who don't know anything about the internet and wouold just like to FEEL that they are going faster. A little low-brow for Google, where their products usually work better than anything else i've seen. It does look like a good idea for broadband, but I think that you probably can't afford the extra time it would take to compress things by your CPU and send them vs. send them over a fast connection. Probably accelerators are good if you just dial-up and check your e-mail, but I can't think of much else. Here's an idea, what if the web only used vector graphics. Wouldn't that speed it up considerably, because they're so much smaller.
  13. Sounds like Empire Earth or BattleNet only browser based?...Cool!The only massive multiplayer game I play right now is RuneScape, it's cool but there are many with better graphics I hear.
  14. The olnly thing is that it's hard to get a good indication of how fast Linux can be from a live CD distro because your CD drive just isn't that fast. Once you use real linux you'll discover how much more powerful it feels when you don'th ave to wait for it to read things off the CD into your ramdisk. (also, creating a swap partition can speed these things up alot)
  15. I think it would be cool if Google was making their own OS, but it's not necessarily going to be what everyone switches to. There are a lot of good OSes out there, and I think the average user would be unlikely to use anything they haven't heard of before, at least at the beginning. One unfortunate thing, i've found, is that most people I talk to in the real world haven't even heard of linux!
  16. Maybe you should put just one little thing in color, so it stands outlike make part of the wave blue or something. Also i'd suggest seperating the bottom of the wave thing from the text a little bit, and maybe scaling it down and posting it here so we can see what the logo would look like in its final size.I think this might make better, but I really don't know alot about graphics Its very cool as is!
  17. I use The Gimp (used to have photoshop on my old machine but not anymore), and I am having trouble finding stuff for it like this site has for Photoshop. Does anyone know of a site that has a lot of brushes, and more importantly patterns for The Gimp?
  18. This is the kind of post I find hard to read. The sentences are too long, and there are no spaces between them or capitals (also all the u's are there). I'm only posting here as an example to clarify for the thread about grammar and punctuation.
  19. Sounds cool, but don't many of these type of sites already exist? For this type of thing you would probaly have to creat your own CMS or heavily mod one to handle all the profiles and specialized stuff you want to do.
  20. This post looks like just an excuse to get some credits. Most of it's common sense, and some is worded improperly. Anyway, you really should use GT, GAIM, or even AIM as they're all much better than Yahoo (and have more users). I have a Yahoo acct, but I never had a need to use it because everyone has gt or AIM!
  21. I know google doesn't care about what I do. When I first got my Adsense account approved, it was for a really TERRIBLE site, with a background made in M$ paint!! It has basically just been sitting earning nothing, but my point is that Google will accept practically anything! Also, i *have* clicked my ads from time to time, and never got an email. I even forgot once and had a page up for a few days asking people to click them as a joke, and Google didn't even send me an email. I think once you start to get more traffic or $ google starts to care, because a friend of mine had a forum and I posted asking people to click his ads (technically I am allowed to do that), but because google couldn't verify completely that it wasn't him the GoogleBot on his site detected it and sent him an email. Good thing he wasn't banned though, it was my webhost! So the moral of this story is that Google doesn't care what you do when you start out, but don't let it shock you once you start to earn anything if they come down on you!
  22. The internet is a pretty good entertainment investment! Here are some of the cooler things I have found:Wikipedia - if you ever have a little question about anything, you can just go look it up in 3 secondsTV shows - You can watch some TV shows online. All the episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, for example, are there!Forums - Duh!But the best thing about the internet, is that no matter how wierd your interest is (like Old computers or Xtal radio for example) you can find lots of stuff about it! This way you can read more than you want to about a topic, get sick of it, and move on to having a life
  23. I think you CAN click on your adsense ads, but only like once a week at the most, and not so it looks like it's on a schedule. You're better off asking your friends at Xisto forum to click them for you (but don't ask on your site or you'll get warned/banned).Here is a slightly un-related question:I am thinking of starting a blog using b2evolution, but i don't know how to:Upload it without doing it file by filePut the adsense ads in itAny suggestions?
  24. Same here. I really like the first and third because they're simpler, and you can tell right away what you're looking at. The sepia makes them look more elegant, and less like a real train station :DInteresting idea.
  25. I think you can use Ethereal, it is a program that allows you to see all packets sent/recieved. It is very likely that you have spyware (who doesn't), because when I run ZoneAlarm's scan I get 20 or so every day!
