New Desing take a look and give advice please
michaleq replied to Bullseye's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It will not be positive (again ) but true (again ). So let's go: 1. Gray vs. yellow (is it yellow? some kind of pastel). You can't make such a drastic change in colours! I mean the sides (the revesed U) are dark gray, and the middle is pastel?? Don't mix it so much! Even dark gray and white would be better! 2. The 'hover' of links in the left menu. Here... here you crossed the line! One thing is that the links are black, and the background is dark gray. It must change!! But another thing is that you change the link on hover into red!! You can chardly see anything there! I mean the colors just mix together, and you can't read anything red writen on mixed gray... Change it let's say to light gray (the text), and then on hover make it white! I don't know if it will work with the bacground, but if not, darken the bacground picture! 3. Transparent pictures. When they are well used, i'm totally for them! But when they are not, they just use very, very lousy! Whay i mean? The google sign on the top... The dinosaur on the left (i mean very colorfull thing on mixed gray...)... The 'Tirol' sign with white borders... Man! These gotta go! Either put them into frames, or consider changing the bacground for them, and use the background as the filler of transparency! I know, i know - again i wrote only negative things... I can say that i like the new design better if that satisfies you But these things i wrote, have to go! Pity that i don't have time to make my own version of your layout, cause i would. I'm not saying i'm great at it, but showing you what i mean would be better than just describing it. With any comments PM me. Hey. -
I've tested a few of Linux distros, and sticked to Mandrake. It's easy, works with all my hardware, there are many sites that have rpm's pprecompiled for Mandrake... Much to say - just test it, and i believe you will never stop using it. Another thing is that many people use Mandrake and they can help you if you've got a problem. As for the apps... Well there is a list of equivalents beetwen WIndows and Linux. Check it and i believe you will find there everything you need. The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux.

I don't believe the real tv idea will come to live, but i do love it Especialy after this viodeo where (as i remember) Windows 98 was presented and it crashed :)Another thing is that i've met few let's say workers of Microsoft that use Linux as their main system, and the same goes with Linux users using Windows... And i'm 100% sure that Bill used Linux not only once! I'm sure they've tested it, and are thinking 'how the hell can we get that functionality'

Meny users write about 'upgrades' as a con for laptops... Of course - you can't upgrade a laptop, but why would one need that? Let's say you buy a laptop now. You'll probably get a 3.0 MHz processor, but one with a good graphic card, and that's all! If you'll need a larger HDD you can change it to a bigger one! If you'll need a larger amount of RAM, you can get more! And you probably won't need a faster processor for let's say 3 years from now, and the graphic card should hold for even longer! There is one thing that can break everything that i've said. If you need the computer mostly for gaming - a desktop would be a better choice. But if you work on it as much as play - choose laptop! I'm working on mine, and i play on it casualy. It's an old model, but still i find it good for games! It's all up to your needs.

There is a slight problem, and it was even mentioned by someone. O tried downloading a whole section about pl/sql from techonthenet sites, and used teleport pro for it. Teleport pro is great, and i've used it many times before. But this time there was another problem - not the app itself.Normal website copiers work like this - they get a page, scan for links, and get sites that are linked, including images and everything else. Where the problem lies? The problem is that the problem generates http calls very fast and frequent. And a server that you receive from notices it! So one can think that it's a DOS attack (very fast and frequent calls to server to load it up fully), and cuts off the IP address that the calls from. That happened to me on techonthenet So be carefull about it...

Project Looking Glass 3D Desktop Environment
michaleq replied to joshua132's topic in Operating Systems
Don't be so happy about it. It may look nice. It may even feel nice. But think about how it should work? Get your graphic card to do it, and you'll be pissed with seeing how the windows change bit by bit, and doing it in few seconds taking your precious time.Thow fings that worry me - one as i mentiones is the speed how it should work, because 3D calculations are really expensive for the computer. Second one is also connected with speed. Java. I have to say i really do like Java! But it has the biggest flaw of all - it is slow and hardware consuming! And connecting 3D with Java... I don't think i would have time to wait for all this to happen on my screen... -
The biggest number of problems concerning Windows XP SP2 is connected to it's new internet security policy - the build in firewall. And what goes with that, mostly the programs using network connections may be failing or will stop responding. But in most cases you can set the firewall in a proper way, so the programs would start. Some programs that may work inpropertly are listed on these Microsft sites: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/842242 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/884130

Heh... Funny thing that you write something like this (an app like this one) can be distributed for free. FOr few months now i've been taught that getting something interesting from weblogs (or any large portion of data) is available only by using data mining, and the process of data mining is made mostly by large applications like MS SQL Server with it's Analysis Services, or SAS Systems. Both cost a lot - and i mean a lot especialy in case of SAS Systems.I don't know if raw statistics can say you anything, but mayby they can... The problem is that sometimes you can get lost in these statistics, and guess something wrong by just assuming something. If you have the facts (logs are your facts) you should use them wisely. And data mining is the way! Not statistics...

THe problem is you've stated only few computer manufacturers - there is no Toshiba, there is no Macintosh...Another thing is that my voice will be based upon using laptops, cause i've never worked on a normal PC that was manufactured by any company - all were build from parts. So for laptops i choose DELL - great insides, altgough the laptops are heavy and the look might not be so great and astonishing. I never had problems with it (though something is ticking in it for some time now...) and everything runs smoothely.I also worked on TOSHIBAs - very good too, but i never liked their harddrives because they make a lat of noice.None of my friends had problems with Compaq laptops (and i have few friends who have them) so i believe they are good too.But if i was to switch my laptop again, i would look for a DELL one.

Maybe something/someone buzzed in your BIOS settings. Some BIOS's do have an option of turning on/off the LPT ports. So go into your BIOS (hit DEL while the post is on - the black screen at the begining of turning the computer on), and search there. And in fact - sometimes software can change the BIOS settings, so it could be done if someone dissagrees.

Sorry - there are none... At least from what i know. I've looked for something like this for quite a long time i have to say, and found nothing. There is something like flash for linux, but i can't find it now. Anyway i'm not even sure if it was free, and for sure it was lousy and in early beta versions. There are many much cheaper solutions than the original Macromedia Flash, that are fully functional, and easyli you should find those. The only free thing for flash that i found, was a ActionScript editor Sepy, but that's hardly what you asked for... If you manage to find any write here or even PM me

Replying to your questions: Have your anti-virus failed? Every one does! But sometimes people don't see it and think that everything is ok. are you full of trojans? hopefully not, because i tend to scan my computer with different software once at a time. although i have a troyan - it's called windows But the application... I don't think it can work easily. Why not? DIfferent things change - in the registery, files change, settings in apps (and that results in change in the registery or in files). If i had to accept every change that is made on my computer, i'm sure i would freak out! And how are you supposed to know if a change made is done by the virus or by the system? Windows does change lots of things on the run, and most of the time you can hardly tell what these changes are for! And backing up settings, and being sure everything is backed up and safe... That's imposible! You would have to back up all your data, and store them safed somehow... I just don't know how... And it's not just me - the problem is one of the biggest safety problems! Oh! And as for now, and my computer - the site doesn't work...

New Site turning it into a homepage...
michaleq replied to Shadow's topic in Websites and Web Designing
SilentWarrior is right - all you have is links. But although the template is nice, i would have something against it :D1. There is left space beetween the gray blocks...Try reducing it because it takes space and is useless.2. The content space is too little...You can't throw layout over content! And there is too much layout in oyour page. Considering that the content will be in a very thin place, and people will have to scroll it all the time... Than ain't gonna work - internet is full of websites, and when people use a bad one (or tireing, like your's might be with this little space for content, and all the time scrolling) they instantly close it!Hope to be helpfull... -
I believe 'the owners' have so many requests for 'something' that they already know what people want. And i don't think this post will change anything on Xisto, because it's hard to say what they don't have - it's up to you how you use it! But to be precise, and answer your question - uptime is the most important, because what's the use of bandwith or huge amount of space, when the server is down? The second is the contact between the administrators and the users (i may not be hosted, but i see that there is something like this, because all the people get e-mails about some changes or etc.). It's important that users should know what's going on with the service.

Pros: Colours... Nicely matched, you keep them the same on the whole site, and that's great. Logo... Looks like a proffesional logo. And you use it well - one knows that one is still on the same site. Cons: The start page... How should anyone know which button to hit? Or even more - how should one know that one should hit a button?? Show in someway, that the buttons at the bottom are hyperlinks. The content... The scrolling arrows are glued together (odd!!), and are to small - one has to be very precise to get on them... And again - as far as they are together i didn't know that there was a scroll there... (by the way - i'm using Firefox 1.0). Spacing... Try to make some more space for the content section, because all the time someone must scroll it (and even more - as i said it is hard on your site). Affiliates section... One thing - reduce the height of the 'navigation' section (cause it's too big, and there is free space left), make the 'affiliates' section heigher, and loose the automatic scrolling of it... Conclution Quite good. I like it... But make the content section bigger, and better scrolled.

My Portal 2 days old :D (croatian)
michaleq replied to Someone's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Nice... Very nice... As for a portal... No - even besides that, the layout is great! It looks professionaly, you can clearly say that you're still on the same site. The colours are well chosen... Maybe you should use the orange more often, because the site is little sleepy, and boring. Put some colours, and the content will be exposed in a better way.Oh... I see you use mambo... Maybe the orange is from there.... Hmm... I think it fits there so well, that you should think about bringing orange to your page...But aside teh orange afection ( ) i like the site very, very much... Hope the content is good also, because i can't read croatian -
I believe the best place to get your drivers from is the manufacturer! It's not only that they did it, so get it from them. Thing might happen that someone will switch the drivers on the pages you suggested, and then you may be stuck! And manufacturers DO put drivers on their web pages! So why don't use them?...anyway i don't have the problem:- i don't use the drivers, i have about 3 copies of them- i've got a laptop, so the drivers are on the manufacturers website, and have to say noplace else...But really - stick to the producers website! If you wan't to be sure what you get.

The entry screen with the animation (maybe the rest would preload at the time it is displayed, because loading the rest took some time) is very nice. The red text at the beggining of the content is... disguisting... Never, never use red on blue in that combination you did!The layout...It's nice. Good thing is that it rescales as i rescale my browser's window. But maybe it shouldn't? I'm not sure about it... Maybe people are not ready for so dynamic pages? For me the not only the font but even all is too big - i use 1400 x 1050, and everything's enormous on your site. The bacground is too flashy - all the time it moves and blinks, and with your page it just doesn't fit.Content...If you put some links... Make them links and so people won't have to copy the text! It's just unprofessional! ...It's even unnormal! (one could say rude ). And try to put some life in it! Maybe colours, maybe lists, maybe small pictures...And there is too little space for content! Loose the graphics around it, and let content be the main thing on your site! Not layout above content! It's never that way!THe little icons in the top-right corner...Try to make them nicer... Smoother maybe...After considering everything i'd give it 6 of 10, because you've got some content there, valuable content. But work on the layout of the page. -
i've tried many, many e-mail clients. And I see that noone met another clinet, that is well known The Bat! homepage of The Bat! It's so popular, and so good, that in the table of equivalence between Windows and Linux, there are e-mail programs, and there are 'Bat like e-mail clients' The software is great! Safe and secure. Has a great adressbook with groups. Manages as many accounts as you wish, and the files of them, are stored whereever you wish them to be! Handles plain text and HTML messages. Receives from POP and IMAP.... Well - to much to write! Visit the web site or simply try the application!. You won't regret it if you try to use it for a longer time. I myself use 3 windows installations at a time (sometimes it is needed...) on the same computer, and every has it's own bat installation, but the account files are the same! So i don't receive the same e-mails, i have the same address book... It's simply the best for me!

I have to say i never worked in Abiword. But i'm all for OpenOffice. Not only it is freeware, but i has a word processor similar to Word (and reads doc format), and more it has something like Excel, and a tool for presentations Impress (substitution for Power Point). One more important thing is that there are tryings to make a standard for saving document files, and the formats that OpenOffice uses are supposed to be used for the world wide standards. So OpenOffice will become more popular, and more people might contribute in it to make it better and better.Of course Writer (the Word substitution in OO <- OpenOffice) has some flaws, but still Word has some too :DAnd another thing is that it's open source! At least for me it's a plus.So concluding - my advice is OpenOffice (the adress is in the previous post).

The site is great! I mean the content and navigation on the blue background with nice sheep on it... i love it! But it doesn't work on Firefox! I opened it, and thought 'the hell is that? there is an image, and below it there are some loose texts...'. Then i opened the same page in Internet Explorer, and i saw how it is supposed to look. Still i wouldn't open the page again if i had to open IE for it! So make changes that it would work on Firefox! And change the colors of links because blue on blue is invisible!

I've done a few reviews of sites here, mainly because i know something about designing pages (maybe i don't have a tallent for it myself, but the knowledge is there ). And as for your site... For the first time i have to say i truly like it!1. It's well designed.2. The colours match together great3. The overall feel of the website is in the mood of the topic, that the site is about. It very good. Even the size of fonts is correctly chosen. What more the site works great of Firefox On flaw thatt someone could think of is that let's say in 'links' section, the site is too large verticaly. I've got a preety huge resolution (1400 x 1050) but the site id too long and i have to slide it down. But wait a minute! There is no content to slide to! If the site is empty at the bottom (well you've got plenty of free space) then why is there a slider showing that i can slide down to see taht nothing? I mean i'm expecting something, but there's nothing there! But aside that an A- for the website

Php Framework For Web Application PHP, framework, web development
michaleq replied to runix's topic in Programming
I don't know if i got you correcly. It you're looking for some software to code PHP, Zend is the best. But I think you're looking for a CMS (Content Management System). And there are many, many of them! Check these pages, and they should be helpful: http://www.cmsmatrix.org/ http://landing.premiumsale.com/?domain=cms-forum.org http://www.cmsinfo.org/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.cmsreview.com/ https://www.realstorygroup.com/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.hotscripts.com/ http://mambest.com/ I've heard Mambo is the best. But many use PHP Nuke as well Choose! There are many, with different functionality. It's all to your needs. -
Wait a minute! You can't compare HTML with PHP! It's impossible! The most important issue is that you use PHP to generate HTML code!! So you can't say 'i like php better' nor the other way! PHP automatisates the work with creating HTML sites. So one needs to know HTML to create PHP. There is no comparition because HTML and PHP have different purposes of use! HTML sites are static - you won't get any difference until you change something in the page's code! And with PHP there are many possible ocasions that will change the content of the generated page! Just to name few - change of time, change of data in the database, change of your status on the web page, when you use logins... You just can't compare these too!

Site Review are the colors too dark?
michaleq replied to round's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The colors are not too dark at all. That's the page layout! The important thing is that the colors work together great.Still there are some suggestions :(1. Navigation.I was on the main page. I clicked the play button, and now i'm somewhere with 'spam, projects, contact'. How should i go back to the main page? No link to it!2. Showing data.Let's say i'm at the same page that i described in the 1st point. Now i click on the SPAM and a nice animation is made. It shows the subjects i can find there. Ok. But there is no content displayed at default. I thing it would be nice to show something at the begining.Still i like it Especialy the animation in the background. Maybe if i would read some text displayed over it, it would anoy me. But as for now i find nothing against it.
