  1. Simple but nice. But to serious stuff: 1. I like the difference beetwen teh blue and white. But maybe you should think about making some graphic divider that would easy it a bit? Maybe a lline with a shadow... Maybe a gradient... Maybe a few lines from tougher to tiner - from blue to white... Try working with it. 2. The titles of the pages... First thing - change the font. Comic Sans (or whatever you use - it looks like comic sans) is only for making a pge look like made by a kid. Or for making pages for kids. Secont thing - drop the italics. Leave it a normal font. 3. The round picture of the clock (maybe on the city hall) is nice. Maybe you should make a border around it? or smooth the edges, make it more sharp - it's a small image, so you don't have to care about the size of the file. Aside that... Nice. Maybe too little text... But i like that you categorised everything licely. Hope to be helpfull
  2. One thing to remember after or even before you reinstall.1. Make sure you've got your firewall installation file on your hard drive2. The same goes for antivirus software.3. Get some patches that are important for your system. You didn't specify the system, but considering you use Panda, and registery, you use Windows. So get the approprieate patches for Sasser, MyDoom, and a Service Pack would be nice (for XP i would advice sp1, not sp2)4. When you install pull out wires from your network cards (lan, modem).5. After instalation install patches, than firewall, antivirus6. Plug your network, and do the rest. It's just to make sure you stay away from any bad stuff, because once you're plugged, you get wiruses, and others right away.Hopefully i helped...
  3. Try doing it the other way (the names might be a little different, because i'm translating them...)1. Start -> Control panel2. Administrative tools3. Computer management4. System tools5. Users and local groups6. UsersAnd then try to delete the account. And let know if it helped if not
  4. I've got a problem that sprouted just last night. The problem is that i had to run three HTTP servers, and switched beetween them frequently - one time i used the Apache bundeled with Oracle, than another Apache with PHP, and lastly IIS for ASP. The topic is not about the servers. It's just taht i switched the server, opened the localhost site, and the site should change. It doesn't! I have to press 'Refresh' to get the appropriate page!So my question is: is there a way to turn an option on, that firefox would refresh every time i come into a site? Cause i searched and didn't found it.Thanks in advance.
  5. It is made by brasilians, and it's obvious if you go onto the site of the project - it's not in english, at all... But about the system. It's based on a Linux kernel, and has teh capability to run Windows appliacations. So one could say 'stable and with many software that most use'. For example the highest version can run Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, Access, Visio, Photoshop, Flash, Diablo II, Half-Life, Lotus Notes, Winamp, WinZip, and many more! I wrote highest, because Freedows is not so free, as it looks... There is a free version, but it can't run Windows applications - it's called the Lite Version. There is another version - a higher one called Standard - you get a FreeOffice with it (some sort of an MS Office alternative). Up one level we have the Proffessional and that version comes with all the goodies inside So if anyone is interested, check the website http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  6. although i'm not any of the users you named, i'll make a review... maybe you'll find it helpfull considering that you had no other reviews yet.1. The side, sliding menu. Not the best idea. People have to know that there is something hidden. And not always they want to look for it. Another thing is that it is not as quick in use as a normal menu. And it jsut doesn't look estetic.2. Colors.Try to make the layout in some style. Red letters on blue background really are bad! And even more they are tiring for the eyes. And either you chose to go into matching colors (lets say blue in any kind, on black background), or you can go into making the page based on well working together but very different colours. If you don't know what i mean try finding o nthe web something like 'circle of colours', and read what people have to say about it.The main thing is - don't mix too much, cause it looks bad!Hope you'll find it helpfull.PS: The is an exception though... and the only exception is if you want to make a flashy/blinking/uncoordinated (in my meaning '*BLEEP*') webpage - meaning not proffesionaly looking, just for fun... Then forget the things above...
  7. As always i find flaws on other pages Too much education about that, and results are not often liked by others, but most time i hope they are useful. So let's go: 1. Main background. To large file, to small resolution. It simply looks bad, and considering that you download it for a long time... Well 70 kB is to much! Try optimizing it by compressing the JPEG better. In fact the file should have... at maximum 50 kB. 2. Background color differences. The fact is that the background picture and the gray you use for bacground are different gray colours. Try doing so: - pick the gray coor from the picture of the cards - create a new image of size 1x1 pixel - very small so it'll download in like notime - use the color picked as the color of the 1x1 picture - save the 1x1 picture as def_back.jpg (or gif...) - use this newly created file as a default background for you pages. One might say that this way you'll use the cards image as teh background. Not at all. There is a trick. Just make a table for the whole page, then use the cards picture as the background of the big cell containing the whole page, and you've got it! 3. Text on colorfull background pictures. It has to go away! Noone will be able to see these texts! I went to this 'download' section and i couldn't see the 'download' link, because it merged with the colors of the background! And the same goes to 'links', where there are images in the back and images in the front! 4. The site is too large vertically. There is not so many content and still i had to scroll the page. I don't know what it is, but maybe you should work on throwing it away? Aside these i like the side panel for navigation. Just a litle bigger letters would be better - maybe bold letters? Hope to be helpfull.
  8. There is a way to speed up your XP. But not many people use it or even know about it. The other thing is that it does not always make a difference. The thigs that should be used (some i don't know why, but they are described like this so...)- system partition - about 5 gig, for the system and your programs... it's kind of big. i personaly recomend 4. formated on NTFS - xp in fact uses it!- page file / temp files drive - about 2 gig for your swap file, and temporary files. formated as FAT because FAT is better/faster for small files, and most of the time your temporary files (like internet files, and other) are small files. and moving your swap files is always seen as a speed up for the system. you can move your swap files in 'Control panel' -> System -> Advanced -> Effiecency (this i'm not sure cause i translate from polish... the first frame from top) -> Advanced. And then choose change, and place the swa file on another drive. Any other files can be moved inside applications.- data drives - well... that's up to you... i personaly chose FAT, cause i can enter it from both Windows and Linux. But thats my choice.Another thing is that sometimes applications suggest you should move their swap files to other drive then the swap file of the system, and the drive with instalation files (Adobe Photoshop suggests that). Try, and you should get the optimum, but the things above should help. And i hope i was helpful
  9. Has anyone know/found or even is using some sort of a Entity-Relationship Diagram building software? I don't even need advanced things, just that i could design diagrams of my database, and maybe print them later (but even that isn't needed since i can always print the screen...).And i need on that is separate from the database system, cause i use multiple systems: MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle... Support for parsing and generating SQL would be nice, but still - i don't need much :(So?
  10. I don't think taht you told clearily what you need... If i get it right, you want to learn some good programming language. And it should be flexible, and have lots of features...My choice, and advice is to learn Delphi:- it is flexible- is has a lot of features, through VCL components, and there are thousands of them on the web! You can even create your own ones- it has access to databases- and something important for me - there is a Delphi for Linux! Kylix! I only tried this with simple programs, but you can exchange your projects beetwen Kylix and Delphi. What is still important, Delphi is easy to learn, and you can easyli learn all techniques used in programming.Hope that was helpful.
  11. The real problem is not with people sticking to Internet Explorer! The problem is placed lower - in webmasters minds! The fact is that Firefox is more about the standards than IE. But most of webmasters test their sites on IE, and when they see it looks good on IE, they think it will look well on every browser, or even worse they don't care about other browsers! In Poland (maybe you BoSZ heard about that - i belive you're from Poland) we had a thing going on, that a group of web specialists loving Firefox, due to upcomming (it was some time ago) of Firefox 1.0, they turned to webmasters of big web sites, with help how to make their web pages look good on every browser. And considering most users of this forum are webmasters, please keep these things in mind!
  12. Pity that you wrote about software for Linux (i mean xmms). The problem is that for some time now i've been seeking for a good player for playing my favourite mp3 player, and there are problems. And as for Windows. I'm looking for a application that would let me have multiple playlists reachable in at most 2 clicks. And what i found: - Winamp 3 - Pros: has multiple playlists, they are reached easily, plays well, has good, working functions (repeat, shuffle, crossfade) Cons: producers say it has many leaks, and suggest swithing to Winamp 5, and Winamp 5 lost the functions of holding multiple playlists at hand - Windows Media Player 10 - Pros: multiple playlists, in minimized mode has all functionality one might need, nice look Cons: creation of playlists is... somewhat tricky, consumes a lot of processor power when minimizing/restoring, makes the taskbar grow heigher in XP when in old windows style - Foobar 2000 - Pros: multiple playlists, neet plugins (realy! especialy 'scheduler'), advanced functions of choosing another file to play Cons: bugs, bugs, bugs... at least i met with lots of them! Plus - hard to control volume (and on my laptop it's a flaw) And finaly what i stayed with: - iTunes - Pros: multiple playlists easyli created, advanced playlists made by filtering the Library, nice look, customizable Cons: ...it's really looking for something in nothing - the shuffle sometimes works oddyli (sometimes it sorts, sometimes not). And as for the avi player i chose Subedit Player - many nice features, even for someone that don't use subtitles (i don't!). Hope this will be helpful for someone on the worser OS (meaning Windows)
  13. Have you tried PHP Nuke? I've heard it's perfect for Content Management, but i never used it in fact
  14. PSPad is easy, and supports many languages. It's a code/text editor but i belive that only non WYSIWIG sites are worth making
  15. the problem of fading to any color is easy:1. you make another layer2. you pick the gradient tool, and set it to fade from color to transparency (of the other way)3. you pick the white color4. and draw the gradient on the newly created layer :PThat way, you're picture will be covered with a gradient fading to white, and that was the job
