  1. Not likely, I have seen this done before, and it almost ALWAYS leads to immediate failure of the motherboard But I would suspect that the video card is faulty, happens alot. And therefor is overheating.
  2. That is because MS Anti-Spy will not catch Everything..... Tell him to go to http://www.srnmicro.com/ and download the trial of Solo Antivirus. Install and update that, then reboot. It may want to do a dos scan before windows loads...let it. Scan and delete everything it finds UNLESS it says it can fix it, then let it fix it. Repeat this process until it finds nothing else, or you have scanned 3 times. Which ever comes first. Then go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall anything suspecious. Like Web accelorator etc etc etc.. Then go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run a full scan. fix whatever it finds. THEN, go to https://www.webroot.com/us/en/ and download the trial of SpySweeper. Install, Update, and scan. After the scan finishes and you correct the findings, scan again with spysweeper. If it still finds more after 3 scans, you should probably do one of two things. Wipe and reload, or bite the bullet and take it to a TRUSTED PC Repair shop. ViriiGuy
  3. Sounds to me like your Video card is overheating, and crashing. Is your video card hot to the touch? The Heatsink that is...If so then that is likely your problem. Your video card could havemany reasons for overheating... It could be simply poor cooling,or it could be an over voltage fault, a damaged cap, or resistor etc etc, it could be overclocked, which will cause many many manyproblems when done improperly.I would deffinately look into your video card. Also as mentionedbefore, if you do not have a way to monitor temps, get one now.Get a fanbus with built in temp monitor. Then put a temp lead inthe fins of your cpy heatsink, near the middle, and in the fins ofyour video card heatsink, near the center of the chip. Then find out what those puppies are running at and fix it.ViriiGuy
  4. I spend much of my day removing spyware and Virii from computers, so I thought I would share with you some links to free software. You may think, I am a smart surfer so I don't need any protection. Well guess what? You are dead WRONG!!! Threats of infection are everywhere. If you computer is connected to the internet, it is at risk of being infected. No matter who you are. Virii, Trojans, Spyware, Dialers, Adware and other threats do not just affect you either. When you get infected you help to spread the infection to others. So please keep your pc clean, try out some of these products.. All are free, and all will help...... http://www.zonealarm.com/ http://www.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-download https://www.avast.com/de-de/index http://www.sald.ru/ http://www.agnitum.com/index.php https://www.symantec.com/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/default.aspx http://www.lavasoft.com/ http://www.safer-networking.org https://www.grc.com/intro.htm http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ *very nice Anti Virus, but only a trial* http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ *These help when you are already infected* http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ http://ww17.trojanscan.com/rg-erdr.php?_rpo=t https://home.mcafee.com/virusinfo/default.aspx?id=stinger&culture=en-US http://www.mcafee.com/us/threat-center/technology/global-threat-intelligence-technology.aspx http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ *Instant Message Encryption* http://www.zonealarm.com/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is just some of the stuff from my list... Making paragraphs that look like poetry takes up more space on each page, and it is tiresome to scroll downwards. P.s. I'll edit your links for you
  5. Now that some respectable FREE servers exist, I would recommend Ultima Online as the best FREE MMORPG out there!!! I have been playing this game since it came out in beta, and I just absolutly love it!!! No other game has ever given you the freedom that Ultima online gives you. Not to mention that UO is the starter of all that is MMORPG. I would personally recommed you go to fileplanet and download UO for free, then go to http://www.uogateway.com/ and go find a shard to play on. Might I suggest http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ .... ViriiGuy
  6. BC3K is an awsome game!!!I have not played it in ages, but I think I may have todownload it again and try it out. There are many many abandon--ware games out there that still have plenty of life left in them. Now if someone would just bring back Motor City Online.ViriiGuy
  7. For every I.E. Security hole Firefox has no problems with, there isanother one that firefox is prone to. So using firefox, is not the endallbe all of security. As a matter of fact, firefox has more problems with webpages thansome of the other replacement browsers. As a matter of fact I would rather use Opera than Firefox. And Opera is no super stellar webbrowser either.Your best bet is to follow procedures and lock down the security inyou Internet Explorer, and surf with that.ViriiGuy
  8. How about Vax?I used to LOVE the vax networks at school.A plant I used to work at uses (to this day) OS/2 to run allthe robots. All programming done to the robot cutters and what not, was done thru a touch screen and OS/2.REALLY obscure one, TalkerOS. OS designed just to run a telnet talker server. Entire thing could fit on a floppy, with talker and playerfilesincluded. Go to your local Uni library, pop in the floppy and reboot.POOF!! Your Talker is online til someone notices. I run a Windows Pre Install enviroment alot of the time, I suppose thatcould be considered obscure as well.ViriiGuy
  9. I am a firm believer in the Yeti. Supposedly the tibetan monkshave proof in Yeti remains. But I believe they are sacred religiousitems. Many claim to have seen one, and they fit along theevolutionary pattern rather well. I also have my own thoughts on Nessy. I think that due to the saltcontent and cold temperatures, Nessy is a dead preserved Dino. But that is just my thoughts on the matter. I think the carcus getscaught in the currents every once in a while and pops up abovewater. Then off in the undertow again. We are constantly finding things we did not know existed, or believedextinct. So why should it be such a stretch for bigfoot, or any othersto exist.ViriiGuy
  10. I can tell you most likely, from what you have said that yesyour drive is dieing. In the majority of the cases of drive failurein combo drives, one side will go out first.Personally I would replace it. Multi Format DVD burners are dirtcheap now. At my shop we sell Dual layered Multi (read ALL) formatDVD burners (which will burn cd's as well) for 79 bucks. So I am surea PC shop near you will sell you one for similar.ViriiGuyP.S. I find LG's Dual Layer DVD burners to be the best bang for the buck. I can burn a dual layered DVD in under 30 mins.
  11. Pay attention to what I said. I said the Headphone JACK.That is in the MP3 player. I said and I quote...."You will have to take the player apart and check the joints on the headphone jack to make sure they are not broken"
  12. Sounds like you broke a solder joint loose. You will have to take the player apart and check the joints on the headphone jack to make sure they are not broken. Most likelywhat happened in when you dropped it, it landed on the jack, and simply broke a connection. Break out the soldering iron and touch it up.It will be good as new.ViriiGuy
  13. Hello, Working in computers for the last 13 years, I have noticed one thingover and over and over. Too many PC's die simply because the hotair inside them had no where to go. In general computers generate a good ammount of heat, and this sameheat will cause failure in your componets very early on in their life. So what we want to do is this, we want to make sure that your PC has afresh supply of clean cool air.(Note!!!! This does require you are inside you PC case... Stay groundedand try not to touch anything you dont need to touch)(Second Note!!! This is aimed at ATX Mid-Tower cases. The layout is fairly standard for this layout.)First things first, unplug your computer from the wall. Ok if you take the case side off your PC, usually on the left side, with twoscrews holding it on. If you remove this you will notice most likely that yourpower supply is at the top back of the case, (big silver box likely) and yourCPU is right underneath it. Now these two items generate the majority ofthe heat in your system. Not all, but most of it. So what we want to do isdirect this heat out of the case in the most direct route. Most ATX power supplies have an 80mm fan in the back. On MOST of themthis fan blows air out into the room. If this is not the case you should take apartyour power supply and turn the fan around so it blows out. Also if your powersupply has long slots cut into the case all the way around, you can take a flat head screwdriver and bend every other fin out. Do this by placeing the flatheadbehind a fin and slightly turning it each direction. You will see the fin buckle outand the fin next to it buckle in. Do this all the way around. Do so will allow moreair into your power supply. Now on the front bottom of your case SHOULD be a place or two for mountingan 80mm fan or two. you will notice it by the perforated metal and 4 screw holes. If so great, put 1 or 2 80mm fans in this location, with them pulling air in from the outside front of the case. If you case does not have a spot for these, a quickgoogle search will bring up many how-to's on drilling your case for a new fan.On the back of your case, beside your back panel for all your ports is likely a spotfor another 80mm fan. If so place a fan or two there, blowing out again. What thisdoes is create a path of fresh air that flows over your motherboard and CPU pullingthe heat along behind it.Quick and Dirty I know, but this gives you the basic information with which tostart your own computer case mods.ViriiGuy
  14. Hehehe That is pretty cool I bet yourclassmates got a huge kick out of it!I have seen those big hands you speak of. I was driving on the highway at the time, but you sure can't miss them!!!ViriiGuy

  18. OMG!!! Shadow Mud is still alive?!?!?!?!?!? If it is the same one, I played on Shadow back around 96-97. The last one I played on was Alternate Illusions. I would not know if it was still alive or not. http://www.mudconnect.com/ That is an excellent site for Muds. They have over 1700 muds listed so I am sure you can find something you like. Might I suggest a nice CircleMud ViriiGuy
  19. I have been playing UO since it's very beginings, And I currently play on the best of the best free shards. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Demise is an OSI clone, with most everything that OSI has in duplicate. What is not there, will be in due time. I run a tavern there, and am the Mayor of a Player Run town. No the graphics are not top notch, but they work nicely. ViriiGuy
  20. For me, it would have to be Morrowwind. The game itself is simply amazing, but the modability of the game has kept it fresh even today.I am looking forward to Oblivion. If it is half what Morrowwind was, then it is going to be a smash hit!!ViriiGuy
  21. In a situation like this, you have to consider who has been consistantly better for the longest time. Who would that be?Why ATI of coarse. Over the long haul they have the bettertrack record. The last 5 or 6 years ATI has consistantly been the leader. They get beat out by Nvidia from time to time, but then theyput out a newer card and take the lead again. So I gotta vote for ATI.ViriiGuy
  22. Actually most laptops now undervolt by default. My AMD xp 64 3000+ drops to 800 mhz when I am not using more than 50% of the CPU. It is a nice feature to have. Especiallywhen it is automatic. I get a little better battery life, and alotless heat. But when I want to play HL2, the laptop spins up to full powerand cranks out the frames with the best of them :)ViriiGuy
  23. I have been a 100% AMD man for years.Every machine I have is AMD except for my Opteron Server.I got a really good price on it .I understand that the Intel chips are a little faster for doing graphicdesign, but for gaming the AMD's are faster.ViriiGuy
  24. It is a nice design, but is it going to be even more of a resource hogthan it is now?I would rather have a simple clean and fast interface.ViriiGuy
  25. I wonder if this will wind up affecting the North American userslater on down the road? I love my gmail accounts, and the addressis a big part of that. Nice, simple and recognizable.
