  1. Lol. I think by now Final Fantasy would win a vote. But I also think that the category is quite open. We combined adventure/jump'n'run games with complex story games. Games which are mostly about fighting shouldn't be called RPG in my eyes. I mean could a real player stay fighting all the time :-P?
  2. How To persuade your parents/neighbours or anyone who has control over your internet access, that filesharing is good everyone who is currently engaged in an internet dependancy probably knows this: the internet account-owner whoever that might be, fears that he might be menaced by your file sharing (illegal.. uh) and your traffic use. Shouldn't be taken to seriously There are some rules that should be sorted out first: ±• The more, the owner (whoever this might be and in whatever way your are dependant, I'll use this term from now on) knows, the harder it will be to persuade him just by sweet-talking. You have to come up with stuff he/she doesn't know. Also people get more paranoid, the more they know how extensive the internet's depths are. There are some people, especially the youngers who just don't care, but some are obsessed with security. It's hard to get throught to those. π• Depending on what you want (use all bandwith, expose the computer. btw. never use these terms), it will be harder. Say it niiiice. And not all at once. ∆• Some of you fools out there, have something called scrupel ;-) No, of course, you probably want to stick to the truth. Well, you ought to learn that there are always many truths :-P some truths are good for you, some aren't. µ• You must have a good relation at the moment. It's a fixed requirement. You can't persuade people that won't listen to you. Ok, but now that you know the rules of the game... let me show you the tricks. Let's start with your mantra (you should use this in all its variations as often as possible): You will not even notice! Say this loud, say it proud. People are afraid of changes, so tell them it will stay the way it used to be. Depending on what you want, you also need different arguments. I'm sure, that the Pros round here can add some more later. Let's start with the pros and cons of Filesharing. Well it may sound a little one-sided :-P but don't forget we're trying to persuade and we are not doing a moral debate. ƒ1. You can test a lot of expensive things without paying for it. If you really like them and the producers need support, you will buy it, but you're a pupil/student/unemployed/drug addict/mentally disabled/whatever so it's only fair that you have access to these media for free. You wouldn't buy it anyway, because you do not have the money, so they don't lose a customer. ∂2. You don't use these software for professional purposes anyway, you don't make profit, so they won't make profit either. ∫3. You will download a lot of stuff which is for free, but it is faster this way. ∑4. Pornography is a taboo for you. Ok, so far so good. If you are gifted with a quick tongue you can get anyone to give in. If you have crossed the moral border, the security will appears. “But they could see my family photos!” or hack my computer or steal my bank account data or blahblahblah. First of all: It's a hell lot of effort to hack a computer. It is already vulnerable, but you (promise to) make it safer while you're using the filesharing software. Secondly: You're probably not prime targets for cracking. If you are not really rich or have secret information, why should they make this effort. Oh, you are really rich? Then BUY the software, man. I'm writing this for the man from the street here :-P The Filesharingsoftware you are going to use, is a safe one, it is not that polluted as KazAa (want to use KazAa? Why in hell should you?) and you know what you are doing (make sure that this is true). Now the point has come, to overwhelm them: Discover things about their internet connection, that they don't know (like that your router is hidden from the internet or that you have this speed or or or... go ahead tell them stuff about ports). Managed to overwhelm them? Good! Tell them, that you are going to be extremely careful, that you read a lot about it, tell them exactly WHAT you will do to protect their computers. Use technical terms, but explain some of them. This has always worked for me, but it should be clear, that it is easier if you know more than the owner, because the act of overwhelming is easier then. Let's get to the next point. We can contribute more facts and phrases later on. Many of you might not know what I am talking about, but in some countries there are no real flat rates. In Germany and Belgium you always have a bandwidth limit. To me it happened sometimes that I exceeded the bandwidth, which resulted in 64kbps speed (bad) and everyone noticed. Afterwards they were mad at me because I was the source of it. The persuasion is difficult in this case because you don't build on peaceful territory. Be careful! Tell them, that it won't happen again, you didn't know about it, but usually if you cared more, they wouldn't even notice. A normal website is about 3 KB big, all the traffic they are using is only a tenth of what they could use. You will be really careful with your downloading from now on. Bombard them with filesizes (Film: 700 MB, DVD: 4GB, Song:3 MB, Website: 1-100KB, Picture: 1KB-2MB, Email-attachments: 10 MB) You will be sooo careful, they won't notice, keep going, keep going. Finally, some golden (purple) rules, that you should keep to during these conversations. Commandment 1: Be nice! Commandment 2: Don't make them feel that you're superior to them (probably ain't true anyway :-P). It just happens that you are quite informed about filesharing. Commandment 3: Make promises: I will download for you too, I'll explain this and this feature on your computer to you, You won't even notice, I won't do illegal stuff. Commandment 4: Stay calm. Some people are immune to facts. Be even nicer! Commandment 5: Say thank you afterwards. That's just good manners ^^
  3. Since you've done it... could you please tell me what the procedure is for this? I asked my domain hoster, he told me that I should ask the DENIC (German domain distributor) to do this. Anyone experienced this? Will the the central distributor charge for these "changing favours"?I have to say that I am a virgin when it comes to domains, because I'm a poor guy and I only have one, that I didn't even buy myself. This one "redirects" to other hosts, but it's actually only a stupid frame with the host in it. Quite unprofessional. When I set up nameserver it will look as if my hoster was directly on my domain, right? Can I set up a .de-Domain to use a .com (Xisto.com) nameserver? Sounds strange to me..Any answers appreciated, thanks,Ruben
  4. As a router user, I just wanted to add: A lot of common routers save MAC-addresses for DHCP (IP-Distribution) purposes, so they can give the same IP to the same MAC-address everytime. Since it is possible to hack into a router, it is also possible to find out the users MAC-addresses.But chill, there is a small chance than someone can harm you with it, right? Unless you're doing illegal things, which no one of us does, of course :-)
  5. Wash your mouth with soap, man, it's the best app available for Mac and there it never freezes or crashes. Blame windows! The only contra against it, is that it reserves space for a file before it needs it, which is really annoying. I don't know why they have to do that, because the official BitTorrent Client for Mac does without (but sucks in features). Just wanted to add: You cannot buy a Peer to Peer network, should be clear by the word itself ^^ I don't think it is a good thing to donate money to someone who develops peer to peer software. It's ethically not really the right thing to do. I mean, he invests his time, but he also gets a lot of free stuff out of it, has his profit. Of course, if you like a program so much.. but I think concerning peer to peer software there is a difference to (completely) legal software. A programmer of P2P has a benefit that is worth money, any other programmer has only experience or whatever benefit (if he does open source).
  6. Nanannanananaa. I think you shouldn't be so snappy.. for me it was easy to find out that Xisto is on a reseller account. Just search and interprete the information the right way.It is a great free host and people without acute problems shouldn't always mock about theoretical problems. If you got a problem, fine, they'll help you out (I have no doubts seeing the support here), but if you're afraid of some dark unknown menace.. I don't know, I think you should think twice befor you bleat, you can easily see that it is bad for everyones nerves... stay caaaalm xbolrulz: i can access the first one (just text msg) but for the second one i get a timeout.
  7. Lol, i see. life sucks! (in the beginning at Xisto). if i try to award my credits to someone it just says "can't continue" that's sad, i'd like to bribe someone with my creds ^^.I thought the credit award system was a very good idea, but it doesn't seem to work. Is there an explanation for that/will it work when I'm hosted?i didnt think it will be difficult for to keep up with posting (as long as im in school, but then I hope that I found someone who liked my project that much that he hosts it).well look forward to my hosting request now.
  8. but i dont think this is a fair system. i found the parapgraph in opaques post myself now, but i disagree. when i sign up now and get approved, i will end up with 3 credits instead of 80-30=50->50-3=47(days since signup)if i had gotten approved directly with my 30th credit i would have 30-30=0-> 3+50-3so i would end up with 3 extra credits to the scheme that I consider fair.Ok, ok, you make the rules, but I think this is not a fair scheme considering new members.I will stop posting right here, until I'm ready to move. So this is actually bad for Xisto too, right?I would really appreciate if an admin told me, that I can keep some percentage of my posts. I have been an active member the last three days and I'm planning to keep it this way, but I think it is not fair if I have to pay for my hosting with 77 points instead of 27, even though I was not a member for long.
  9. I have to plead for Gothic I and II!These games costed me weeks of my life but it definitively was worth it. The story is great, it is better than reading a good book, the characters are realistic and the background music rules. Actually I first just watched, while a friend was playing because I had no windows computer at home. And we could sit and talk about it for ages. It is so great ^^ It grinds my guts, that I will be in Sweden without a windows PC when Gothic III finally comes out. Oh, damn it nearly gets me off thinking about that game ;-)
  10. I really enjoyed Emotion Eric, that guy is amazing. The other stuff... well, if I don't laugh, time doesn't go by fast enough ^^tja, ruben
  11. thanks ^^ nice to know the command too. I'm not exactly an mySQL pro so this will help me ^^ Hey, we are talking about a drug store here! They aren't selling the cure for cancer there, and it is not like it is important who gives the last bid for an item, right? :-P You probably need the database only for stuff which is not in "very small store C" but maybe in "giant store A". You just sell some toothpaste and other stuff, so a request to update data from "in stack" too "sold" should take you no time. I guess the only think you have to be careful about that there are no requests which take a lot of time and lock the table. I mean, if store E is doing a stocktaking the others must be able to access the database anyway. But I'm pretty sure that MySQL will do the job well.
  12. While reading across this, I came along a HORRIBLE message: my hosting credits will be reset as soon as I'm accepted member? Why the xxxx is that? I can't move my site right now, because I need to take care of preparations and so on, but c'mon, that's not fair, if I lose all the credits I achieved by now, as soon as I am approved!I mean you practically ask me to stop posting until my account is approved, what are the thoughts behind that?I'll enjoy Xisto anyway, as soon as I'm hosted, but this rule makes no sense to me.Another question I got:On the /process you can see an option called "Award Points". Is this really possible? I guess, none of you selfish people ever tried :-P just kidding. Because this would mean that a friend of mine who is also working on my website could also signup without ever trying to get approved and send his points to me, right? And this would also mean, that if I really need an answer I could award points to the one who answers my question, because I'm such a thankful person ^^ I guess no one does that, but maybe it will occur one day.
  13. 'sup? i only see the startpage all links i tried give 404. I don't like the design on the startpage, wannabe futuristic in my eyes.
  14. Thanks man but before I need to get the Personal Web Sharing to work ^^ I read something about it now, but it seems that I have to forward some ports (I have no idea which, of course. I mean I can't forward Port 80, right? then the other router users would have problems). The rest is only some setup, I already found out how. The difficult part is to forward the requests to my computer, but I haven't found information WHICH ports I have to forward yet.I'd like to say that I know, what phpinfo is ;-) I'm not an absolute beginner.
  15. Hi,I guess all of you as Mac OS 9 or X users came across Personal Web Sharing at least once.It is briefly said a folder (on OS X called Websites) where you can store websites. Then you can activate Personal Web Sharing in the Network/Sharing Control Panel and you get your IP right there, so others can access you online. Sounded easy to me so I tried, but I was not possible for friends to reach my pages (they just saw a page sayin' "Ruben's personal webspace" or something like that.)Now I wonder if that is because I am using a router or because I'm a fool or because it just doesn't work. and of course I'd like to find out how to make it work.It would be a great way of sending files, it is like peer2peer sharing but you don't have all these firewall problems because it is implemented in OS X and your friends just access a normal web page. Also, I would be interested if this directory has PHP functionality. All answers appreciated,Ruben
  16. Got a question about the iDisk, does it stay too? Because I always wanted one, it is SO comfortable if you can just save files as if on your computer but they appear on the web too.So does the space stay? That would be really great. But I guess there is no other way than paying which I simply can never afford...
  17. I want to add ogame.org, a game about building up your universe domination. I think it's quite boring but I was addicted for a short time too and I have to say that I lost a couple of friends to it ;'-(Another addicting thing for me it is too look up my Simpson Bot in my Dashboard. I had nearly every saying already but about once per week I find a new one (gotta check now.. he he). And what does it say: Lenny: Let's make litter of the literati!Carl: That was too clever, you are one of them! [punches him]Wonderful, right? But I hope for all of you that you are seeing this ironically, since I don't really need a cure, I'm just spending a lot of times here sometimes, but life has more priority still.Good luck with finding a way out ^^Ruben
  18. You misunderstood me.What I was *****ing about You Send It was not that you need a prog to upload, but when you d o w n l o a d.You are not forced to do so, but when I tried to download a file a friend send me on my Mac, the download always broke down after 6 MB (of 200) and I could not resume it, because it pretended to be finished. Pretty annoying. Then they supply a download app which works around that bug, but it only works on windows and I hate to download extra apps, which such little use. Especially if I have to emulate ***** windows to use them...
  19. Can one use these pages as simple download accounts?Just saying, cos this is quite tempting, hehe ^^ I got my stupid space, so I'm not seriously considering it, but pls just tell me what speaks against it?
  20. Hello,My name is Ruben, I come from Germany, was living in Belgium but now I'm on exchange year in Lund, Sweden. My various web projects need a good host. I do not program for the sake of programming but for purposes. I have a satirical (German) homepage, a vocable trainer (to come in English) and a stupid online game.I'm 16 yrs of age, going to the gymnasium and trying to become a journalist later. My skills include html, css, js, php for webdesign and some other computer knowledge. For my private person, I like spending time with friends (who doesn't), writing for newspapers and just like that, listening to (mostly rock, but not only) music, going to concerts (rock), to bars and an occasional joint with friends can also enlighten my weekend.I am also a big cineast even though I can't afford cinema all the time. Well, you know there are other ways. I liked the first Matrix but I prefer arthouse movies, so: sorry, no lord of the rings - discussions with me.I came here because I was looking for a good hoster without ads and with mySQL. Before I was at funpic.de who started putting very very "decent" ads.I am not yet hosted, though I have the credits. I have to get ready to move first. So, looking forward to work with ye,Ruben
  21. I'm not a PHP pro, but as far as I know you need a CronJob to complete a repetetive task every 20 minutes and CronJobs cost money. But you'd better not rely on me. My intuition tells me that you would be better off with another language. As far the reading part, you can get the page with file_get_contents, and if it is a static page (except for the table data) it will be easy to extract the code using the various string functions.Good luck,Ruben
  22. I don't know.. If you own a mildly popular website, which is visited by Google, you just put two stupid words on it and you got your google whack. Or is this cheating? Do the words have to be in the (English) dictionary?
  23. I just wanted to check if you others experienced that too, when putting the Google-Adsense-Site and websearch on your site. For me it just doesn't work as well as the normal search. For a random search term I get 5 times less as many results. This really sucks, why should one use this then? Do you know what could be wrong?(You can check it out on my profile website)
  24. >i've a problem, i have a search engine and i can't get him multiple keywords. > When i search in the search engine he only browse for one specific keyword. how can i do a >script to let me insert multiple keywords. theres the code sorry man, I dont know if I got you right: You want to search your database, if it matches with more than one keyword? For example: Database-Entry: Name: one, keywords: bla blu Database-Entry: Name: two, keywords: blu blo Database-Entry: Name: three, keywords: blu blo You want the one with "blu" and "blo" as keywords. If you search for "blo blu" now, it won't find anything if I understood your script right, because there is no value "blo blu" in there. What you have to do: explode() the search string, so you get an array. Then you search for each term from the array inside your database and afterwards you give out only those that match both. I can't write this for you because your site is Spanish and I'll mess around because I do not understand the purpose. If you are not a complete PHP noob, you'll manage. You should look up the function explode on php.net You have to explode for spaces " " I marked the places in your code. <? include ("sql.php");$keywords = $_POST[goget_fetch]; // here you should write instead explode($_POST[goget_fetch]," ") this will make $keywords an array if ($keywords == '') { echo "<div align='center'><font face='verdana' size='1' color='336699'>Introduza o tema que deseja procurar</div></font>";} else { echo "<table align='center' width='300' height='20' border='0'>"; echo "<tr><td>"; echo "<font face='verdana' size='1' color='336699'><b>R</b>esultados da pesquisa: <b> $keywords</b></font>"; echo "</td></tr></table><br><br>"; // Query $query="SELECT * FROM $db WHERE ( INSTR( keywords, $keywords) >0) LIMIT 0 , 15 "; $result=mysql_query($query); // you have to do this for each value in the array $keywords $num=mysql_fetch_rows($result); // here you can filter out those who didnt get all keywords matched. $i=0; while ($i < $num) { $nome=mysql_result($result,$i,"nome"); $descricao=mysql_result($result,$i,"descricao"); $url=mysql_result($result,$i,"url"); echo "<table align='center' width='300' height='40' border='0'>"; echo "<tr><td>"; echo "<font face='verdana' size='2' color='336699'><b>$nome</b></font><br><font face='verdana' size='1' color='336699'>$descricao<br><a href='http://$url'>$url</a></font>"; echo "</td></tr></table><br>"; } mysql_close();};?> I hope you understood, I don't know how good your English and your PHP-skills are. Feel free to ask back, but be sure to inform your self at php.net/explode good luck, ruben
  25. I agree with Ninja Munky:What your browser shows is somewhere on your computer. And therefore you can't hide it from a good user. even if you find some complicated methods there will be methods against it.And why should you want that? They can copy your text, even if they have to retype them, they can copy your images, even if they have to take screenshots. And your HTML and JS code cannot be so famously good that there is any reasonable explanation for putting so much work in protecting it. It does not contain secret data and anything else can be rewritten. it aint no creative work, it's just some tags. that's the point: theres no point in protecting your sourcecode.my opinion so far, ruben
