Wutske, I agree with you that content should generally be the focus of web designers, but for a beginning web designer, it can be good practice to put all of one's effort into aesthetics. When the next website project comes along, he or she will be more ready to tackle the content issues, having already gained insight into aesthetic demands.Or think about it this way. To provide good content, you need a message: what it is you have to offer the world. Does a gaming guild have a lot to say? I would think that such a site wouldn't have too much content, which would allow the designer some margin for creative license.

I took a picture of myself growling and applied a gradient map. I think this came out pretty spooky. Wouldn't you all agree?

This has a clean and simple look. Overall, I would rate it highly, but I notice that some of the long rounded rectangles do not look quite right to me. The first, third, and fourth rounded rectangles from the right edge near the top, curve too soon as they go into the circle above. And the big one stretched horizontally near the bottom seems like it shouldn't protrude into the circle on the left at all.The black space which Foolakadugie mentions doesn't detract from the piece for me, but that's a matter of personal taste, I think. As for the HTML, image maps are definitely the way you want to go. -
cyborgxxi, the Internet is no longer solely for geekery. Websites like /?_fb_noscript=1 have proven that all kinds of people can utilize the social potential of the Internet. I would think you could appreciate websites which promote social interaction, considering that you're posting here. Furthermore, I think you're making some baseless assumptions. Not every man wants a girlfriend. Some people prefer to be alone, or to date multiple people casually. I suppose they are nerds? And your statement is not entirely clear, but are you saying that homosexuals have social problems? As for the video, I think it's biased against Firefox, because I had to look at the source code and paste the video's address into my browser. The problem must have something to do with the "dynsrc" attribute in the img tag. I have never seen this attribute before, but it seems like an Internet Explorer-type thing.

You just don't want to learn a new pnemonic, eh, broli? -
That weapon is called the "Farsight".Other of my favorite weapons from the old game include:Double Phoenices shooting explosive charges (the little blue Mayan weapon),The Laptop Gun which you could set as a sentry,The fly-by-wire rocket launcher,The SMG is very fun in this game,And of course the Sniper Rifle is a hoot.

You mean javascript, right? That would be pretty silly to write a java applet for a single visual effect. That's a good idea. I don't know why I hadn't thought of doing that.

A Few Pics: What Do You Think?
clagnol1405241508 replied to plot's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I don't really like your blue indigo graphics much (except for the first one), but you've got some impressive wallpapers. Strangely enough, the one I like the most is the one you seem to like the least, the third one. The colors are just right for a wallpaper. And it neither looks too "busy" nor like it's lacking anything.Your virus wallpaper looks good, too, but I noticed one thing that didn't quite seem right to me. I thought that the symbol which appears over the sphere was meant to be actually ON the sphere. Now, I can see that it is meant to be overlaid, as if on a computer screen (right?). I'm not sure how you could have indicated to which layer it belongs, but that's the only fault I found with it.I don't really care for the eye wallpaper because the iris within another iris doesn't look natural. But it's all very well technically done, and elaborate. I really like the blob picture. The craquelure textures look grotesque, in a fascinating sort of way. -
This digital art forum is too slow for my liking, so in my efforts to get things going a little more, I present a picture that I drew in Illustrator for my school newspaper. What you need to know to understand the image is that my school was facing Oral Roberts University in soccer, and Oral Roberts is well-known for their giant statue of two hands praying. My university's mascot is Captain Cane, the golden hurricane.

OpenOffice Or Microsoft ? openoffice.org or Microsoft Office
clagnol1405241508 replied to JMC1405241503's topic in Software
xboxrulz, you can save your openoffice.org documents as Microsoft DOCs. Did you use the OOo format just because you're a sadist? -
Need A Little Feedback On My Newest Sig

At first glance, your signature makes me think of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album cover. The design seems a little discordant to me. You're mixing realistic and abstract elements. It's interesting what you do with the lens flares, but I don't think it goes well with the squares at all.I think I see what you were trying to do now; the squares and flares are meant to indicate depth, right? Like a rectangular tunnel? If so, then you could easily make it seem more three-dimensional by using shadows and highlights, rather than lens flares. If you just meant this to be entirely abstract, then perhaps you and I merely have irreconcilable aesthetic preferences. -
Music On A Website How?
clagnol1405241508 replied to destinedskater's topic in Websites and Web Designing
How about Firefox? I never hear embedded music with Firefox, so I assumed the same was true with all other Netscape browsers. -
gamerchick may be right about your antivirus software. I worked on one computer that had either Norton or Mcaffee on it, and it started nearly as slowly as yours. Once I got rid of that, the whole computer operated much quicker. Here's another tip: try starting your computer in safe mode. It will not load all the unnecessary programs that normally start up when you turn on your computer. This might help you diagnose the problem.

Music On A Website How?
clagnol1405241508 replied to destinedskater's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I don't think this works with the Netscape family of browsers. Probably the best way to ensure that all browsers play your music is to use Flash. I'm sure there are some kits on the Internet you can download for free that allow you to just add your own music into the SWF and then place it on your page. They also typically have "play" and "stop" buttons so that the user can control the music (a lot of people listen to music while they browse, so they might not want your music to interfere with their own music).Personally, I do not like background music on websites because I am one of those people who listens to music while on the Internet. Plus, most of the background music on the Internet is not good. Your visitors may not appreciate the music. -
The only issue I had with Perfect Dark 64's story mode was the boss at the end of the game. I don't remember exactly what you were supposed to do to beat him, but I remember thinking it was typical boss nonsense. They should have modeled the last level after previous levels.Unfortunately, I'm with Slasher... this Xbox 360 is going to be totally overpriced and lacking in innovation. If I buy any system, it's going to be the Revolution. I can't wait to get my hands on one of those controllers.

Those are uncanny imitations of the original art (except for the fourth: I think you made the chin a little bit un-Goku). It would be very easy to mistake these as spliced together screenshots from the show.Such talent should not go wasted; have you thought about returning to art, perhaps to develop your own style?

New Biological Robots Build Themselves
clagnol1405241508 replied to jedipi's topic in Science and Technology
guy, you don't seem to be able to wrap your head around what's happening in the field of AI, or biology, for that matter. First of all, humans use every part of their brains. Not at the same time, however. This is the part that confuses people. At any given time, you are only using a small percentage of your brain. This makes intuitive sense to me. We probably understand more about the brain than you think. It is only a matter of time before we learn the last of the brain's secrets. As for AI, there's no reason we can't recreate the human brain in the form of a machine. I don't think we'd have to do that, personally, to create subversive artificial intelligence, but I'm certain it could be done. -
Flash? Does your site support it?
clagnol1405241508 replied to card_24's topic in Web Hosting Support
Flash is a client-side technology. All web hosts support flash. All that is necessary is that the person visiting your website has a flash plugin installed in their browser.Server-side technologies, like PHP, are a different matter. -
It's hard to take seriously someone who uses "M$" or Micro$oft". Microsoft is a money-making enterprise. In their world, bad software that sells well is better than good software that sells poorly. That's how capitalism works.
