  1. If he's planning on using dream weaver to make a fairly straightforward page why would he need to learn xhtml and whatnot... I've seen people with absolutely no knowledge of a pages source go into dreamweaver and have a fairly good looking site within a short period of time that they managed to maintain easily...I mean personally yea I agree it's a good idea to learn that stuff eventually... but if he just wants to get a basic webpage on the net I don't really see a need to learn xhtml/css... even basic html is 'needed' to use a WYSIWYG as long as you don't wanna be fancy...
  2. I don't see how this is so shocking to you people. Cola companies bid to have exclusive rights for companies to sell only their product... mcdonalds sells only coke because thats who offered to give them the best deals. Is it unfair business because they offered a service for less? How is offering a service for less any dif then paying then to use their stuff... either way its saving money. Again I don't think its the nicest possible business practice but it's not like they're doing anything that out of the ordinary, you're just not used to seeing it in tech companies. Then again you sort of do... many times big comp retailers will sell only ati or nvidia boards in their systems... I'm sure its not ONLY because their employees prefer one over the other. Don't you think they are given incentives? That's how the business world works, better start accepting it now
  3. hmm, sites not loading for me... but my net has been acting up so who knows if its my comp or there's that is the prob :S
  4. I'm not saying its "good" I'm saying its perfectly understanable. Actually I almost respect them for thinking of it haha, its underhanded sure but it gets the point accross...and how is this 'losers' of a monopoly? Intel isn't exactly hurtin in sales even though amd has a lead in desktop chips (far as I heard)... neither have a monopoly. :|
  5. Wow, that photo manip one is kinda creepy haha. Great work just weird how diff it looks without changing it 'too' much, ya know? Great job!About the first two, I'd agree that the first one is a little too colorful, maybe making the ribbony lines of color a translucent version or something would keep the image smoother. THe lines sort of stand out too much and break up the image a bit, but nice effect still for early PS work. The second image is really cool, well done indeed. Hopefully you'll be able to use those skills and merge them into other works B)Keep up the good work. I'm no PS master by any means at all, but you seem to be willing and able to learn so good luck.
  6. Blogs really are a cool invention, allowing tons of people who would never bother with creating an actual website to get their thoughts, ideas, opinions, etc onto the net. Plus many amazing sites have spawned from this idea creating awesome resources for comedy, news, information, etc. It's really a great technology. However, people who simply have blogs to whine and moan about how horrible their life is because of stupid little problems get to me... I mean have a blog, fine, talk about whatever you want, but if your ONLY intention is to whine about your life, 9 times out of 10 there are better ways to handle things. I mean if you ACTUALLY have problems, fine, but if your biggest problem is that Susie Q won't talk to you anymore, well, go deal with her face to face instead of blogging daily about how your life is over.Sorry haha, I rant easily about this topic because so many people I know have blogs and keep telling me to read them then all they do is whine and moan even though they all are extremely lucky with the quality of their spoiled lives But other then THAT stuff, blogs are amazing I've had one now and then, I rarely keep them up to date for long but they're cool. Get thoughts written out in a coherent manner, write editorials about things, make people laugh sometimes, its fun. Personally my 'blogs' are almost always on my actual website of the time, but same deal.
  7. I agree with the general ideas here, gotta do something about the grey. Grey is fine but it just kinda all blurs together too much, makes it hard for your eyes to know where they are supposed to be focusing. Overall a nice clean design though, tweak it like the people here have been suggesting and it should rock.
  8. Yea game companies don't (yet) make games INTENTIONALLY run worse on one process, they simple optimize their code for one platform or the other as its the only way to make the best code. They decide on the hardware that will be best for what they want to do, and optimize for it. Games haven't started picking sides to diss the other quite yet... That'll annoy the hell out of me if they do (although it still wouldn't be something that would be outside their rights to do...)
  9. I don't really see anything wrong about this, and its a hugely differnt matter then your bus/race example. You don't have any control over your race, you do have control over which processor you buy. There are tonnes of examples of companies being biased towards customers buying their own, or their partners, products/services. That'd be like saying a company that only sells a pc or mac port are doing something horrible to the opposite group, or to linux users, by not porting it immediately to all available platforms. Their software, their choice how they use it. Hell, they could lock it down so it only runs at ALL on intel chipsets, I don't see why not. Their choice if they want to limit or damage their customer base based on agreements with one company or another. Whether you like it or not, I can't see how you could find it THAT horrible of a maneuver, it's an interesting take on company partnership really.
  10. Hahaha, exactly xbox I still say we'll be lucky if it ever sees the light of day
  11. I assume there is only one user account? I had that problem once and I just killed the extraneous accounts and it started working normally. So if you never use it, make sure the guest account is disabled or deleted. There may be another way to fix it without deleting the account but thats a suggestion if no one else has any ideas.
  12. I can imagine it'll get pushed back into 2007... but thats just a feeling I have because its Microsoft But yea, I've heard nothing but people saying its still pretty buggy. I agree with the sentiment that I won't be installing it until I need to... making windows look prettier isn't a high priority for me. I'd rather keep a stable OS running then what is sure to be the buggy initial life of Vista. Then again right now I have two installs of xp still on my comp... sooo if I dont ever get around to clearing one of those off I guess I might always just throw one onto the other drive to test it. But I can't see me switching my primary windows to Vista until a good way into it's life so that other people can be kind and find all the bugs for me
  13. Aaah cinthia! I had forgotten about those old city builder games! I wish they'd release a new version of one of them... I had played Zeus and Ceasar 2/3 and I loved them. They always did an excellent job of recreating the culture of the place (albeit to a limited technological level since the games are a handful of years old now) and had great pacing and everything. Good times were had with those games. Too bad they killed the series'For me my all time fav RTS was probbaly Total Annihilation. Now most people played Star Craft and never heard of or never played much of TA but I prefered it. Just something about the balance of units and everything. Sure the storyline was almost nonexistent but at the time I just wanted a game to play online against my friends. And so it was done.Getting past that I really loved WC3+expansion. Both were really well done, same with C&C Generals. Amazing graphics and gameplay. Both were awesome but I just never got into any other RTS as much as I was addicted to TA back in the day. Then again I don't play RTS's as much anymore so that probably is a major factor too.
  14. Looks pretty snazzy, won't pull me over form gmail though. The interface is irrelevant to me as long as it is functional, and since I like gmails functionality (convo format, quick, intuitive) I wouldn't switch over for a nicer interface. At least it'll give me something better to look at when I use one of my yahoo mail spam addy's for something B)Oh, and I personally can't see hotmail ever being on top again. They dropped the ball and hard, especially since personally anytime I've ever had a hotmail acocunt it got spammed hard even if I never registered for anything with it. The spam filters could never keep up. My gmail and yahoo accounts rarely get any and what they do get are filtered easily (unless its the addy I sue to register for random crap sites)So yes, great effort and I'm glad to see yahoo trying (competition is always good for the end user) but it won't be enough for me.
  15. There isn't really any way to make an argumnent that is correct. It's all personal opinion. You can say c++ makes learning java easier, but learning java first makes learning c++ easier as well. c makes java easier but knowing any programming language, such as java, makes learning c easier. Every path you take through learning languages has its benefits and drawbacks but personally I would say as long as you learn with object oriented first it'll make things easier. Just a more logical way to think of things. But still, just my opinion.Honestly, I think personally I would have had a harder time to learn java after c, as opposed to c after java like I did. I'm sure pointers would have been annoying as hell to try and learn while still getting a grasp on basic data structures and programming conventions heh.
  16. Luckily when I change a plan on my cell I'll be getting unlimited wireless weeeeBut yea, right now it's some insane amount of money to use the net on my phone haha, but soon....sooooooooooooon...
  17. I've been toying around with different css stuff lately, might have to give that a try... personally I can't see it being useful for me but I can imagine alot of different ways it would be interesting, good stuff indeed. If I have any questions I'll harass you in a day or two lol.
  18. I'd say it's good for people who are complete tech-incompetents, since it sets firewalls and auto-updates on by default. Plus SP2 has a bunch of the security fixes that have been released that are now widely publicized security holes so it would be good to fix them just in case. Personally I'd reccomend it even though it's only annoyed me haha. I ahven't noticed any problems, just annoyances with the security center keeping trying to be more in control then I'll let it
  19. Hm, maybe someday but I can't imagine it being anytime soon. Unless the voice functionality is severely optional. Most economic voice rec software is pretty spotty at best as far as I know, so it'd be hard to base an entire iteration of a hardware giant on such a tech. Someday maybe, but not for awhile I'd be willing to bet.
  20. Yea I tried out dvd shrink and its working wonderfully, great quality and the compression is working solidly to keep then to a good size for a normal dvd. Thanks for the input guys
  21. I dunno... 8?...9?...10?... its the only search engine I use, they spawned the only email I use, and they seem reliable in searches and its fast and a light weight page. Cool features. I don't see any flaws but don't use others enough to really compare, no complaints whatsoever though.
  22. The iPod name is too strong to be knocked out I think. At least in the near future, they'll probably just buy out or join with a cellphone company to make iPod G8 Razr Rokr omgness.
  23. Aw man 1.6? Bleck... it was why I stopped playing until Source I loved around the 1.1 version level the most ever. Seemed the best mix of everything... but by 1.6 they had things like the riot shield ruining the fun Source has a few flaws, but the severe decline in hackers between 1.6 and Source is enough to make me prefer source anyday B)I haven't played in like a month or so... should probably update it and give er another go soon. Woo.
  24. Hmm, interesting names? Aishwarya Sakhuja caught me the most when I scanned over there names, so start explaining heh
  25. Hmmmm, I'd have to say a close tie between Garima Parnami (no7) and Jyotika Sirohi(no10). Alot of the others were pretty good looking but those two caught my eye as being able to draw you in more with their gaze. I'm a sucker for the right kind of eyes what can I say haha. But yes, beautiful selection
