  1. If your server doesn't support PHP, what does the sever support? I guees you NEED some server-sided script-language on the server, otherwise HOW should the forum posts be written in an XML-file? Sure, you can use XML as a database, you can let your visitors use some great XML-functions like sorting data and filtering data in the browser window. But if it comes to writing data in files on the server, you need PHP or ASP or ASP.NET, any server-sided script language ... as far as I know.

  2. On a heavier note, you can say it is like the Virtual PC. Virtual PC is developed by Microsoft, and it emulates MAC I think, or the other way around...
Needless to say, it is extremely slow ...

I do NOT agree with that. MS Virtual PC is NOT slow. In my opinion it works far better and faster than VMWare. Anyway, I guess Cherry OS is not comparable with Virtual PC, because there's not hte same kind of resource sharing between host OS and guest OS. MS Virtual PC and MS Virtual Server are two great pieces of software which I don't wanna miss anymore.

By the way, me ... I can't see no reason why I should hurt my Intel PC with Apple software. :D

  3. Internet Explorer is faster, looks better and the toolbars can be customized much better. I don't need tabbed browsing, I use Windows taskbar. I turned off ActiveX, but only because I can't stand no stupid Flash banners anymore.Concerning security: Security holes and exploits for these are floating around just because Internet Explorer is the most used browser. Little holefinder kiddies are much more interested in IE. Internet Explorer simply is a larger target, that's what I'm thinking. I wonder why Firefox users never seem to get tired of telling how evil and unsecure Internet Explorer is. It's cool if they have found a better browser for themselves, but why are they always talking about it? I will never understand. GreetingZ :D

  4. I think Xtivity might be an alternative or an add-on for Flash Designers, but of course it's not replacement for Flash technology. (Being a replacement for the whole technology was what I thought it could be when I read the title of this thread) It would be cool if Flash would get a real competitor, some vector graphis alternative technique, Flash is much too mighty in my eyes.

  5. I guide him to modify the setting in safe mode, but fail.

What kind of fail? In my opinion this absolutely HAS TO work! I cannot imagine what should go wrong here. If he changes the settings in safe mode, the changes should be kept for the next reboot!
Did he check the graphics adapter? I mean ist it still deep in it's AGP or PCI slot? If it's not, this would explain the black screen.

  6. I have some money, and I need and graphic program - is it good?

I guess Corel draw sure is a good program, professional and high class, no doubt about that. But for the price this program costs, you would get a nice holiday trip to somewhere or a nice little Laptop or whatever. What I'm trying to say is: Corel Draw is not too cheap! So why don't you just download the program somewhere and "test" it before you buy it? You sure can do nicer things with your money! :D

  7. I think that somehow I must have changed the font size/style when I was trying to change the appearance of my comp (I did this by right clicking the desktop, then clicking on 'Properties', and then clicked on the 'Appearance' tab, and then clicked on the 'Advanced' button

Well, this sounds as if it would be best if you changed these settings to the original state. You must have changed some font sizes in the advanced tab. Select the single elements in the advanced tab and try to make some font sizes smaller.
In Windows 98 there used to be some themes for visually disbaled with extra big font sizes, perhaps a theme like that is active?

  8. There are still some posts which keep on giving errors. Forums are not laggy but still have some bugs. Like i wanted to read <a href="http://forums.xisto.com/topic/85806-topic/?findpost=1064316616; post but it keeps on giving error.

Do you mean these "Sorry, an error occurred"-messages? ("Board message") I found out that these messages appear whenever someone posts a new thread in the Tutorial section. All tutorials must be reviewed by a moderator before they can be read by others.
I think it would be much better if everything would appaer immediately, and maybe would be moved to a special Tutorial section when reviewed by a moderator.

  9. -----Topic moved here, to the tutorials section-----szupie

Posted this some days ago in the tutorial section, but obviously it's not accepted, I don't knoww, so my second attempt here, hope it's ok to post it here.

Finally found a way to get rid of the stupid ActiveX-warning when ActiveX-plugins (Flash) are disabled in Internet Explorer! Those who need it, know what I'm talking about. Let me say one thing first: I HATE Flash, I really do. Well and I LIKE Internet Explorer, I want to use Internet Explorer without Flash. This little workaround is for people who want to use Internet Explorer without Flash, and not for happy Firefox users with their nice flashblocker, alright.

In Internet Explorer, when you disable ActiveX-Plugins, you get an extremely annoying window everytime a flash-file is found, something like "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly, blah bla blah ...". If you look through the Microsoft Knowledge Base, this silly pop-up cannot be disabled! I've been searching for a solution for a long time, and now I finally found this, tested with Windows XP, guess it works with other Windows version in the same way. Here it comes:

    1. Get yourself a resource editor, like "Resource Hacker": http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

    2. Search for the file "shdoclc.dll", usually located in c:\windows\system32\ or c:\winnt\system32\

    3. Load shdoclc.dll in Resource Hacker, go to "String Table" and go to element #503

    4. In the right window you now see some of the IE alerts, simply delete the line 8033 !!!

    5. Click on "Compile Script"

    6. Save as shdoclc.dll in a different directory

    7. Replace the old versions in ..\system32\ AND in ..\system32\dllcache\ with your new one, if necessary in safemode.

That's all. You will never ever see the stupid pop-up again.

GreetingZ to all happy IE Users :D
