  1. I already have phpBB already installed and functional on my site. I had a guess that is what they were doing but how do I embed that into a separate page? Any links or tutorials out there?
  2. You can add me to the list. About two weeks ago I had some nice numbers but lately it has been pathetic. For the last week my “Net Impressions” have been around 100 where it was 1,000-10,000. I don’t know if this is a bait and switch or something else going on.
  3. I would like to add a community feedback system similar to the one at codeproject.com (http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/18871/YCC-Trainer-Tutorial-for-Yahoo-Messenger). You will notice at the bottom users are able to post questions and see the answers without leaving the page. I do not want an email feedback form but one where any user can post and see the responses. Anyone know of a software package that is able to do this?
  4. This question was asked of me today in my forum. The original question has been quoted but my response has not. I will leave it up to the administrators to quote my response if necessary (I of course hope they do not). In any case I believe this is a very important question and it should stay up. My guess is you have a backdoor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backdoor_(computing)) or trojan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trojan_horse_(computing)) installed on your system that is completely independent of Yahoo! Messenger. These types of programs are usually distributed via email or an attachment sent to you in Messenger. If you can remember a strange program that was sent to you and then the computer started acting funny then you have your culprit. The best fix is to reformat your hard drive and reinstall the operating system from a known good source. Some may say that this is overkill but you do not know how advanced the attacker is so every precaution should be taken. In some cases there may be a rootkit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit) installed and no matter what you do the only solution is to reformat. Even if you donât have a backdoor to you system (my guess is very unlikely) a reformat should still be done and a new copy of Yahoo! Messenger installed. If you are a novice user; ⢠First check to make sure you have a copy of your operating system such as Windows XP or Windows Vista. If you purchased your computer from a big retailer such as Dell or HP you should have a restore disk, if not call customer support and request one. ⢠Take an inventory of your hardware and software. Download all the latest drivers for your hardware (which can be found on the respective hardware manufactureâs website.) Be sure that you especially get your network driver beforehand because the most common problem that I run into is a new install without the network card installed. Also make a list of your software and download the latest versions. Burn all of this to a CD. ⢠The reformat process is not that complicated but do a Google search if you are not sure. ⢠After the operating system is installed, install your drivers from the burned CD. ⢠Update Windows. Do this before going ANYWHERE on the Internet. ⢠Install a good antivirus. I recommend Avast! (https://www.avast.com/de-de/index) ⢠Reinstall all of your software from the Internet and burned CD. In the end this may end up costing you money if you donât have the Windows install disk or you take it to a repair shop and have them reformat the computer. Please donât underestimate the importance of this and not reformat because the attacker not only has access to your Yahoo! Messenger but also your entire computer. He can see what you are doing, see what you are typing, and see everything else you do on the computer. It sounds like he is just giving you a hard time by harassing you and your girlfriend but donât give the jerk anything else to play with such as your email or in the worse case, online banking information, PayPal or credit card information. If this were me, I would have the entire machine reformatted as quick as I could turn it off. DO NOT DELAY! This is a critical security problem and needs to be address immediately! P.S. For full completeness an attack like this can be waged if the attacker is on the same non-switched network segment. Just like any network communication, all traffic on a single segment can be sniffed and possibly altered. This is increasing rare because most networks are now run through switches (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch) and not hubs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_hub). Switches isolate each individual segment so there is only one computer on that segment and sniffing cannot be performed. This would require a man in the middle attack (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-in-the-middle_attack) so it would still take some work to get this scenario to work. For the original question, you should ignore this because your chances for this happening are around .0000001%.
  5. I just saw this on Slashdot and I believe it is related (https://slashdot.org/story/09/02/19/2056228/microsoftcom-makes-ie8-incompatibility-list)
  6. It looks like I may be in the minority here because I use IE for my primary browser. I also use Firefox 3 about 40% of the time but I have experienced some cookie problems with it and generally run IE for my critical applications (banking, hotmail, etc.). I like to use IE because I dabble in security research and I like to experience things from the typical user’s point-of-view. Firefox has a strong market share of around 20-25% but that means that the average user still uses IE and I don’t want to lose a certain perspective by exclusively running Firefox. I also usually surf through a proxy when using Firefox so I can have one instance of IE open checking my bank (it looks a little suspicious to the bank if you check it from Russia) and have another instance of Firefox surfing through Russia.I also have Opera, Safari, and Chrome installed as part of my Yahoo! research.
  7. I don’t get the feeling that he has slow hardware from the original post. He has Vista Ultimate and that usually shows that he either got it with a high end machine or cares enough to pony up for the extra “benefits” of Ultimate. To me it doesn’t sound like a memory problem but you can always run Windows Memory Diagnostic (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) to find out. Until about six months ago I also would rule out software but I had a bad incident with Zone Alarm under Vista that proved me wrong. The first place for me to look is video card drivers but they usually cause a bad boot every time and not intermittently. The next place I would look is overheating and I would open the case to see if that changed the frequency of the hanging.
  8. I see that yordan really is “Way Out Of Control - You need a life .” I was browsing http://forums.xisto.com/topic/96640-topic/?findpost=1064398396 and saw that he is at -1343.78 MyCents. All I can say is wow.
  9. You will have to provide your computer specifications, especially your processor, motherboard, and video card.I have never run across this exact problem but it sounds like incompatible hardware or outdated drivers. Of course run through and update all of your hardware drivers and disable or remove any software that you don’t need.I know this would drive me crazy so I would most likely reformat and see if that fixes the problem. If the freezing continues, I would remove every component down to the processor, motherboard, memory, video card, and hard drive which the OS is installed and then reinstall again. If this fixes the problem then reintroduce components until you find the offender. Otherwise you have faulty hardware.
  10. It looks like most of us are in agreement and you may not have the best hardware to run Vista. There is a big jump between Vista and XP on the hardware needed. You may want to try Microsoft ReadyBoost (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/products/windows) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost which is built into Vista but requires a compatible flash drive. You plug a dedicated flash drive into an open USB port and Vista will store cached data onto it and in theory speed up boot times. I personally use it but I didnât see a large performance gain at all. The second thing to look at is the startup programs. A lot of programs will try to put their own completely worthless gadgets (my own option) into the system tray and run at startup which will slow down your boot time by minutes. Download Autoruns from Microsoft SysInternals (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) and disable all the unneeded startup programs. Look at the program path to get a hint to how important the program is. Drivers for system hardware such as sound cards and Windows components located in the C:\Windows\* directory should usually be left alone. Other widgets such as Adobe Updater, Microsoft Office, IM clients, and any other non-essential programs can and should be disabled.
  11. You may want to refer to http://forums.xisto.com/topic/95202-topic/?findpost=1064386335 for more information. I had a similar problem and finally got a solution.
  12. I finally found a solution to the redirect problem. Htaccess is funny because you cannot have spaces in the file to redirect from but you can in the file to redirect to. You also can have periods in the file to redirect from but not in the file to redirect to. To get around this you can use â\sâ to replace the spaces and â\.â to replace the periods. To reiterate my problem, I need to redirect http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/YCC Bot Maker 1.1.rar to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ YCC Yahoo Bot Maker 2.2.0.zi ycoderscookbook.com/files/ YCMaker 2.2.0.zip and the code to do that is: #YCC Bot Maker 1.1.rarRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com$ [OR]RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com ^Files/YCC\sBot\sMaker\s1.1.rar$ "http\:\/\/ycoderscookbook\.com\/files\/YCC Yahoo Bot Maker 2\.2\.0\.zip" [R=301,NC,L] As I stated before, you will notice the spaces were taken out of the first part and the periods taken out of the second part. Additionally I have several other redirects to take care of other versions. #YCC Bot Maker 1.2.rarRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com$ [OR]RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com ^Files/YCC\sBot\sMaker\s1.2.rar$ "http\:\/\/ycoderscookbook\.com\/files\/YCC Yahoo Bot Maker 2\.2\.0\.zip" [R=301,NC,L]#YCC Yahoo Bot Maker 2.0.zipRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com$ [OR]RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com ^Files/YCC\sYahoo\sBot\sMaker\s2.0.zip$ "http\:\/\/ycoderscookbook\.com\/files\/YCC Yahoo Bot Maker 2\.2\.0\.zip" [R=301,NC,L]#YCC_Yahoo_Bot_Maker_2.0.zipRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com$ [OR]RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com ^Files/YCC_Yahoo_Bot_Maker_2.0.zip$ "http\:\/\/ycoderscookbook\.com\/files\/YCC Yahoo Bot Maker 2\.2\.0\.zip" [R=301,NC,L]#YCC Yahoo Bot Maker 2.0.1.zipRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com$ [OR]RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ycoderscookbook.com ^Files/YCC\sYahoo\sBot\sMaker\s2.0.1.zip$ "http\:\/\/ycoderscookbook\.com\/files\/YCC Yahoo Bot Maker 2\.2\.0\.zip" [R=301,NC,L] If you donât get it just right then you will end up with an internal server error. Always make a backup of your original .htaccess file so if you do get an internal server error and canât find a way around it then you can upload the original and at least have a functioning web site.
  13. I just checked my Kontera account and I have to say that I am impressed. Around $25 for a month isn’t bad at all. I did notice that the page impressions skyrocketed in the last two weekends which increased revenue considerably. Looking at it from a purely statistically vantage I wonder if someone isn’t gaming the system by running a bot on the weekend. While this is good for me now, I’m sure Kontera will catch on and possible take away that revenue. To the moderators, does traffic really increase by 500% on the weekends? I have found that on my website the traffic actually decreases by 10% or so on the weekend. If traffic for Xisto does not increase on the weekends then it may be something to look into.
  14. I’m still in the negative even after several posts but then again I did start at -350 or so. I’m not very worried about the script because even though I am negative on Xisto, I received an email today saying that account was credited three dollars today. This means that what matters (getting credit and paying for my hosting) is not broken. It’s always nice to see a surplus of myCENT credits but it doesn’t really matter as long as I get credit toward hosting.
  15. I just got through updating ycoderscookbook.com and I would like to get some impartial reviews. Of course I am a proud parent and I don’t see anything wrong but I know there is always improvement to be made.
  16. Rapidshare is certainly a love/hate relationship for me. My six month membership expired a few weeks ago and now I am starting to miss it. My advice is if you use it a lot then the membership is worth it. I don’t have the funds at the moment but once I do I will be registering for a one year membership.
  17. This tutorial will explain how to add Google Adsense to phpBB version 3 (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) and specifically to version 3.0.4. Before upgrading to version 3.0.4 I had 3.0.1 installed and I was happily using a mod that I found on the phpBB forums called âInline Banner Adâ by geocator (https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=306680). I found that upgrading to the latest version significantly changed the way phpBB worked and I was forced to find another solution. My search lead me to âGoogle Adsense Ads and phpBB3 Howtoâ (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) but it was only for prosilver and did not work out of the box for subsilver2. Without finding any other sources I modified the code from âGoogle Adsense Ads and phpBB3 Howtoâ for subsilver2 and here the result. Full credit goes to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ for most of the work. I never found a way to add ads to the sub-forum page but this will add ads to the following: ⢠Top and bottom of the main page ⢠Top of the forum page (not sub-forums of the forums) ⢠Top of each topic and directly under the first post ⢠Top of the search page I also didnât like the way the original ads were displayed so I created my own formatting and started from scratch. You can either edit the following files using the built-in editor in the Administrator Control Panel or download them via FTP and then re-upload them. 1. Before Adding This MOD To Your Forum, You Should Back Up All Files Related To This MOD 2. Open /styles/subsilver2/theme/stylesheet.css 3. Add the following to the bottom of the file .google_ad { border: 1px solid #A9B8C2; background-color: #ECECEC; } 4. Save and close /styles/subsilver2/theme/stylesheet.css 5. In Notepad or similar text editor paste the following. Make sure that you replace your Google Adsense code with your own. From here own I will refer to this as the Google Code. <div class="google_ad"> <div align="center"> <script type="text/javascript"><!-- google_ad_client = "pub-xxx"; google_ad_slot = "xxx"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //--> </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js; </script> </div> </div> 6. Open /styles/subsilver2/template/index_body.html 7. Find â<!-- INCLUDE forumlist_body.html -->â 8. Place Google Code before â<!-- INCLUDE forumlist_body.html -->â for top of the main page ad placement 9. Place Google Code after â<!-- INCLUDE forumlist_body.html -->â for bottom of the main page ad placement 10. Save and close /styles/subsilver2/template/index_body.html 11. Open /styles/subsilver2/template/viewforum_body.html 12. Find â<!-- INCLUDE forumlist_body.html -->â 13. Place Google Code before â<!-- INCLUDE forumlist_body.html -->â for top of the forum ad placement 14. Save and close /styles/subsilver2/template/viewforum_body.html 15. Open /styles/subsilver2/template/viewtopic_body.html 16. Find â<!-- BEGIN postrow -->â 17. Place Google Code before â<!-- BEGIN postrow -->â for top of the topic ad placement 18. Find â<!-- END postrow -->â 19. Place â<!-- IF postrow.S_FIRST_ROW -->â Google Code â<!-- ENDIF -->â before â<!-- END postrow -->â for topic ad placement after the first post 20. Save and close /styles/subsilver2/template/viewtopic_body.html 21. Open /styles/subsilver2/template/search_results.html 22. Find â<!-- IF S_SHOW_TOPICS -->â 23. Place Google Code before â<!-- IF S_SHOW_TOPICS -->â for top of the search page ad placement 24. Save and close /styles/subsilver2/template/search_results.html The results are not as sophisticated as the original mod but I am happy with the results. You can see a working version of this mod at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/.
  18. I have to give it a 6/10 rating. The really important thing is that this website did not make me want to go to a different clinic and made me think this business was legitimate and fairly professional. This appears to be a local business so I do not expect a great website but it is good enough for my business.I’m not so sure about the green welcome with the black type on the front page or the flash animation. The main content is spaced a little too far apart (but I am a strong support of white space) and there is perhaps a little too much content on the front page.
  19. Symptom Users of many different Yahoo! services such as Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Messenger, or Yahoo! Groups may encounter a âSorry, Unable to process request at this time -- error 999â message when using any of the applicable Yahoo! services. The 999 message is usually displayed in a webpage such as the one shown below but may also present itself as a custom HTTP protocol header in applications where HTML is not displayed. A classic example of a 999 error is when a user has requested too many Yahoo! accounts within a preset amount of time. The 999 limit is usually triggered when around 15-20 accounts are created within a 24 hour period Description The 999 â unable to process request at this time is a self defense mechanism implemented in many Yahoo! services and web servers as a way to prevent abuse. The 999 error is actually defined as an HTTP response code (http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html) with the value of 999 from a Yahoo! web server. The 999 response code is usually accompanied with an HTML body text saying that the service is unavailable but this is not always guaranteed to be the case. The 999 HTTP code is a custom HTTP code specific to Yahoo! web servers and is not recognized by any Internet standards (http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616.html). Below is a web page packet capture using Fiddler (http://www.telerik.com/fiddler) showing a 999 web server response. As stated above, the 999 error is usually seen when too many accounts are created from a single IP address (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address) within a 24 hour period. Almost all account creation programs such as YCC Yahoo! Bot Maker (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) will encounter a 999 error once the abuse quota has been met. Other similar actions such as excessive posting on community message boards, SPAM like behavior in Yahoo! Mail, or too many password attempts for a particular account may also result in a 999 error. Yahoo! is constantly tuning their systems to prevent abuse so the exact list or amount of suspicious behavior is not known and is subject to change at any time. Some users may inadvertently encounter a 999 error if they are behind a NAT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Address_Translation) router with many users or behind a proxy server. This is because both NAT routers and proxy servers will only show their (the NAT or proxy device) IP address to the Yahoo! server and the 999 abuse quote may be filled by multiple users behind the router or proxy. Yahoo! is aware of many of the larger web proxy servers on the Internet such as AOL and apparently implements less stringent abuse limits on those servers. 999 errors are still possible on these servers but more abuse, 150 per 24 hours compared to 15 per 24 hours, is permitted. As an example we will consider is a home user named Bob who uses a small ISP called RipDSL in his hometown. RipDSL uses a web caching proxy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_cache) to speed up their customerâs web surfing which is a common practice in the ISP industry. Before work, Bob fires up his web browser and checks his Yahoo! Mail. The caching proxy receives the request from Bob and then forwards the request to Yahoo! using the RipDSL proxyâs IP address. Within minutes a second user, Jane, also makes a request to Yahoo! which is also intercepted and the request IP is changed to the RipDSL proxy server. User Jim meanwhile has forgot his Yahoo! Mail password and tries to guess it until he finally gets it after 10 attempts. When Bob gets home from work later that afternoon he once again checks his Yahoo! Mail but this time he is greeted with a cryptic 999 error message even though he did nothing to cause it. Solutions There are a few different ways to combat receiving the 999 error message. Listed below is a list of possible remedies and the situation in which it should be used. Wait 24 hours For regular users that are not on a time critical task, the easiest solution is to wait until the 999 error expires. This is usually around 24 hours but may be longer (48 hours) or shorter (12 hours) depending on the amount and type of abuse. The duration is controlled entirely by Yahoo! so the only way to see if the ban has been lifted is to retry the service. Change IP address If you need access to Yahoo! immediately then change your IP address if possible. Some ISPâs will grant you a new IP if you renew your DHCP (https://www.lifewire.com/learn-how-internet-network-4102756) license or restart your modem. With DSL you can sometimes disconnect and reconnect to get a new IP and dial-up users will almost always get a new IP with each connection. Additionally you can change ISPs all together by using a different network such as your neighborâs wireless access point or your local coffee shopâs connection. Proxy connection If you need access immediately and plan on burning through many 999 messages (creating bots) then you need to connect to Yahoo! through a proxy server. Using a proxy works much like changing ISPâs because Yahoo! sees the IP address of the proxy server and not yours. You can purchase proxy accounts from many different providers or you can use one of the many free open proxies found on the Internet. Purchasing proxy access is certainly more reliable than a free proxy because the bandwidth and latency are much better (not to mention they are guaranteed to stick around for more than a day). Finding free open Internet proxies is much more difficult and care should be taken to scan each proxy before use. I have found from personal experience that only about 5% of proxies found on public lists will actually work. You can visit (how to proxy) for more information concerning how to find and use proxies. 20. The problem of not being able to delete a file is usually because it is still in use by one of the processes in the system. Since this is a game I am assuming that it is either the install or an update. Either way, the files that you ran from the zip probably got hung and never exited properly. The simplest solution is to restart the machine and try again. For some reason if that doesn’t’ work then you can use MoveFile (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897556.aspx) from SysInternals to schedule deletion on the next reboot. Additional help can be found at http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/howto-delete-xp.html.
  21. I also used to use WinISO but now I use an unusual alternative, WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/). WinRAR is not free but you can use the unlicensed version basically forever with only a nag screen. If you are not familiar with WinRAR then you should give it a look because it is the best archive software period. Several versions ago they added ISO support and now it’s what I use to modify and extract ISO’s.
  22. Where do I stand on gun control? Break into my house about 3 in the morning and you will not be leaving alive.I’m not going to try and convince someone to change their mind because this is much like religion in that once you have made up your mind you will not change it. I grew up in a household where guns were the norm and I learned how to shoot at an early age. Three points that I would like to make. •You can’t outlaw everything that can be used to kill someone, if so baseball bats would be illegal.•I also agree that some misinterpret the second amendment (in the US) but I am on the other side of the argument. The second amendment is not there for personal protection or hunting but to keep the government in line. If the government becomes corrupt then the people have the means to overthrow it and once again establish a government by the people. This means that each citizen should not only own a gun but have a grenade launcher in their basement and a tank parked in their front yard.•Freakonomics (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) by Steven Levitt showed that statistically swimming pools are 100 times more deadly to children than a loaded gun in the house. This is a great book and I highly recommend it.
  23. I guess what I was really asking for was a special exception.
