It's quite simple really. First thing you do is make a torrent file out of the file/folder you want to share.. I assume you've already done that though using MakeTorrent. You then upload your torrent file to a tracker site... I used to use demonoid.com and lokitorrent.com ... but they have since been shut down, so I have no suggestions on which tracker to go with. Then as soon as it is in the pool (this will depend on how often the tracker refreshes it's pool, but it shouldn't take any more than 5 minutes) you can open you torrent file as if you were going to download it, and just wait for people to start uploading. Like everything else BitTorrent, this usually starts off pretty slowly, but just wait a while and you'll see how quick things start going. Good luck, hope you get it working.

Tony Hawks Series PS PS2 skateboarding game
JimBeam1405241475 replied to Dementour's topic in Computer Gaming
I remember buying a Playstation magazine years ago just to get the Tony Hawk demo before the full version was released. I spent so long playing that demo and was almost a pro before the full version came out. When it finally did come out, I rented it from the video store right away and burnt myself a copy (I wish it was still that easy to burn games these days) and I will never forget the countless amount of hours I spent playing that game. When it comes to video games I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, meaning I won't go on to the next level/stage of the game before everything in that stage is complete. I spent so long completing the game with each character, and then went through and found every single gap, although I need the help from a walk-through I find online with a few of the gaps I just could not find on my own. My memories of Tony Hawk 1 are the best. But when it comes to graphics and game play, each new game in the series just got better and better. Especially with the added on tricks... remember when they introduced manuals and it made it THAT much easier to make HUGE combos. And they just kept advancing the tricks in every game, it's awesome. The one thing I LOVE in THUG:2 is the fact that they brought back the old school style game, in which you have to find all the tapes and stuff. Haven't actually got on to playing them yet, got the game for christmas, played it for a bit and since then haven't really touched my PS2. I really should get back to it and complete the game. -
Thanks for the effort in digging that up, but nah that wasn't the problem. I actually logged in quite frequently because I always had something new to host all the time. I also had most of the pictures linked directly to forums, so they would be getting hits constantly, my account was very active. Oh well, I'm not one to complain, and considering they're service was free, and never offered any sort of stability guarantee, I definitely won't whinge about my experiences with them. But I did however have this problem with them, and have heard of others having the same problem, so it might be something for other people to consider when contemplating using the site. On the other hand, most users of the site seem to love it and have no problems at all, so chances are you'll be alright. I just got unlucky. If I have to make any recommendations at all, it would have to be for ImageShack, after my troubles with PhotoBucket I have been very impressed with them.

I'd like to say that photobucket is an awesome image host, but after my whole gallery of images was wiped off my account one day for no apparent reason, I can not say they are the most reliable host out there. I have no idea what happened, I just realised one day that an image I had hosted on my account, and linked to a forum I frequent, was missing. All I could see was the deadly red cross, or otherwise the annoying 'user posted image' for the Firefox users. When I checked my photobucket account, everything started out fine, I logged in without a problem, I was half expecting it not to log, thinking my account may have been deleted for some reason. But once in my account I could see no images. All the images I had uploaded to my account had been wiped off... and I wasn't informed as to why they were deleted. I just figured it was a glitch in the servers or something, and my files went walk-about, got lost and never came back. Well it doesn't matter anymore anyway, if I need an image host I'll either use ImageShack or my Xisto account. Both very reliable hosts.

Msn Messenger 7.0 Or 6.2? which one is better
JimBeam1405241475 replied to harriko's topic in Computer Networks
Yeah I know... I wasn't arguing anything. I was just simply responding to your comment about the new features being unnecessary. If someone was to argue with me and say "I don't want to upgrade to MSN 7 because the new features aren't necessary", that would just sound stupid to me, because most of the other features aren't necessary either, in which case you should be using Windows Messenger.Anyway, like I said, I wasn't trying to argue with anyone. In fact I completely agreed with your post, I was only giving my view on your comment and basically elaborating on the topic of 'unnecessary features'. I apologize if you felt I was arguing with your post, I didn't mean to cause any fuss. -
Msn Messenger 7.0 Or 6.2? which one is better
JimBeam1405241475 replied to harriko's topic in Computer Networks
MSN Messenger is packed full of unnecessary features as it is anyway. The only features necessary for an instant messenger program are;-buddy list -chat And to a lesser extent; -file sharing -different status' This is basically ALL you need. MSN Messenger would still be a completely useful program for it's purpose without all the extra features like smilies, display pictures, background pictures.. and now winks and nudges, which are another addition in MSN 7. All these extra features just add a bit of fun to the program, to make it more enjoyable to use. -
Free File Sharing Programs.
JimBeam1405241475 replied to seaniscrazy's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Lately I've cut back a lot with file sharing. Mainly because most of the good BitTorrent sites are being shut down, so there's no more quality files being shared anymore. Every now and then I might find a good BitTorrent on a site and use that, but it is getting harder and harder as they keep shutting down more and more of the good sites. For music downloads, if it's just one song I'm after, I'll usually use KaZaA (Lite, of course), but I don't really rely on it too much to give me decent quality files. On the odd occassion I will use eDonkey but I find it to be VERY slow. Before I stumbled across BitTorrent though, eDonkey was a good source for full album downloads. I just very recently (about 20 minutes ago actually) downloaded the BETA version of eXeem. It was made by the owners of the suprnova.org website and runs on the BitTorrent protocol, but doesn't need any trackers. To find files to download you simply use a search feature, very much the same as all other P2P programs, and the results are displayed showing rank; name; size; category; language; rating; seeds; downloaders; comments; and date published. As I said, it is still in BETA testing so it may not be completely stable yet, but I think it has great potential. I haven't actually downloaded anything using it yet, but I've used the search features and I have to say I really like the interface. It looks great, and the options make it all so easy to use. Anyway if you'd like to try it out for yourself too, visit: http://www.exeem.com/ -
Best Anti-virus Programs ?
JimBeam1405241475 replied to kids25's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Just like people buying Windows when they can just get their hands on a copy of a Linux OS for free. The reason everyone buys Windows is because of it's reputation and popularity in the market. Most people wouldn't even know there is an alternative to Windows if you didn't tell them. I wouldn't have known about it if I never browsed the internet. It's very much the same story with most other software. People are going to buy the products they have heard of because they know the name and can trust it's quality just based on it's popularity. Again, if I never browsed the internet I wouldn't know that these free programs are out there and available to me... I would have thought my only option is to go out and buy Norton or McAffee from the store. Anyway to get back on track with the topic... my favourite Antivirus scanner at the moment is definitely AVG. Does a great job, auto updates itself whenever it needs it and runs scheduled tests all behind the scene so I don't even know it's happening. All I need to see is the results from the scans, and that's exactly what it does for me, so I couldn't be happier. It also costs me nothing, so how can I go wrong? -
Good to see you got it working... but I was going to ask what burning software you were using, because this was most likely your problem. When I first installed my DVD writer, NERO wouldn't recognise that the drive was there. So I had to go ahead and update NERO, and it worked fine. It just seems to me that some programs just aren't compatible with certain hardware... and in this case, your burning software was not compatible with your drive.Anyway, good to hear you got it working.

Msn Messenger 7.0 Or 6.2? which one is better
JimBeam1405241475 replied to harriko's topic in Computer Networks
I guess it all depends on your needs then. I honestly don't use msn a lot.. other than to see who else is online and to let other people know I am there. I don't actually chat very much. So even if it was unstable I probably wouldn't really notice... and I never use msn for sharing files so I'd have no idea about the download speeds. All I can say is that from my own experiences, msn 7 has been completely stable, not one problem what so ever. But I guess these stability issues have to be coming from somewhere, someone must be complaining about it, so I guess the problem really is there for some people. I do enjoy msn 7 a lot more though, so for anyone contemplating getting it... I'd say go for it! It's a nice upgrade. And hey, if it isn't working out properly for you, you can always downgrade back msn 6.2. -
Best LAN-Messenger help me find it...
JimBeam1405241475 replied to friso's topic in Computer Networks
I don't really want one of these programs to chat over a network because that just means adding yet ANOTHER program to my computer and I already have enough! So can anyone tell me how to use the winpop thing using command prompts? I tried to figure it out myself using help features in the commend prompt... but I could only successfully send a message to every machine on the network. We have 4 computers on our home network and I only want to send a message to one of them, not the whole lot... can anyone give me a hint on how to do this successfully?I followed to instructions properly from the help features but everytime I tried it, I would get a message saying that computer doesn't exist... but I could ping it and see it there? It was really weird, and neither of us were running firewalls that would block the message either. Anyone know what's up? -
Msn Messenger 7.0 Or 6.2? which one is better
JimBeam1405241475 replied to harriko's topic in Computer Networks
Yep I had the same problem the first time I installed MSN Plus!. I wanted to install it all quickly, and just like every other instal I do, I just quickly tick the box without reading te statement. Like you said, it looked like it was a user agreement policy or something, so of course I ticked it and continued on with the install. I got all the crappy spyware and was very pissed off, so I checked http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and found out about the spyware thing. From there I also found out how to uninstall the spyware and reinstall Plus! without the spyware.Nowadays I don't bother with it at all anyway. It has a few cool features but nothing so extraordinary that I must have it. I installed msn 7 beta some time ago and I have to say I think it is a good improvement on msn 6.2. I especially like the ability to log in with a certain status, sometimes I like to log on as "Appear offline" just to see who's online before I show myself, just because I don't feel like talking to some people sometimes. And stability issues? What is everyone talking about? It works fine! Will be out of beta soon and everyone will be using it. -
All I've ever needed to use was Ad-Aware. Even when I was using IE, Ad-Aware took care of almost all the spyware on my computer. As for pop-up's though, I had no protection from them. I didn't want a stupid toolbar like the yahoo one and any others I tried were just crap. But since downloading Firefox I do not have any more issues with pop-up's, apart from the odd java one's that get past the blocker (one of the tests on that pop-up blocker test that was posted on these forums), so nowadays I don't have any problems with spyware. I still run Ad-Aware weekly though, just in case, and it sometimes picks up a few things but nothing to worry about too much. I also use Spybot, but no where near as much as I use Ad-Aware... I find Ad-Aware picks up everything Spybot does so there's no need at all to use it. Then for the really annoying infections that neither Ad-Aware or Spybot can get rid of, I use HijackThis... posting my logs at http://gladiator-antivirus.com/forum/index.php . HijackThis is always my last resort, and is very rarely needed. In fact I've only ever needed to use it twice. Since using Firefox I haven't touched it. I've also had another problem with a file infecting my windows restore folder, this has happened to me twice as well. After some research the first time this happened I figured out that all you have to do is temporarily disable system restore to delete everything in the folder.

That sounds awesome man... I wish I could get those speeds here, but those sort of connections aren't even available to us here yet. As far as ADSL goes, the fastest connections available are the 1.5 Mb connections. If you want really fast speeds, you need to get cable, which is a bit more expensive and not available in all areas, and you also never get upload speeds of 50-130 kbps. 1000 kbps download speeds were also VERY rare with cable, so I'm guessing this connection you have is a lot better than the cable services offered here.Wow, I'm very jealous. Hopefully soon we see ISP's offering these connection speeds.

I remember only having a 20 GB hard drive... god that sucked. I can't imagine what it would be like only having 10 GB. Back when I first got that computer, 20 GB was huge and hardly anyone had a hard drive as big as mine. I was very proud of my machine, but the pride didn't last long, obviously, with the increased size HDD coming on to the market. Mid last year when I decided to build my first machine I put in a 120 GB HDD and wow, it's awesome. I finally had some freedom, I could download what ever I wanted without having to worry about how much free disk space I have. Nowadays I am having that same problem though, sometimes getting close to the 120 GB limit.Anyway, the way it seems to be going lately, it wont be long till 1 TB hard drives are basically standard. I think we will still see all the same problems though, especially for gamers. The more advanced games become, the larger they are in file size.. so all that extra disk space will be needed.

Have you ever really tried using the XP theme? It really isn't that much different to the classic style... but hey it's your PC and you're the one using it, so if you prefer the old style then by all means use it. But if you want your desktop to look nice, it ain't a big hassle to get used to the new style. And even if you aren't going to use the new theme now, it may be worth downloading it anyway, just in case you decide later on to use the XP style and you'll have that nicer looking theme there waiting.

I don't really understand exactly what you are asking... but I'll try to answer anyway. Many web hosting services don't provide a web page file manager like Xisto's cPanel, and in some cases using an FTP client is your only option. Personally I'd prefer to use an FTP client to log in to my account anyway, don't know exactly why, I just prefer the interface. So this may be the case with many others as well, they just use FTP because they prefer it over the web based control panel. The other problem you'll see with a web based control panel is when you try to upload large files. I know that in the past I have had troubles with certain web hosts when trying to upload a large file. Unless you have an incredibly fast internet connection, you will very oftenly get browser time out's... with an FTP client, you will never get this problem. I don't know if this is true with Xisto though, maybe their cPanel does not have the time out problem, I haven't tried any large files yet... but I know this can be a problem with some service's. Well I hope this answers your question. And oh, the client I like best is CuteFTP. No real good reason really other than the fact that this is the only client I have ever used. Back when I first used FTP I was reading a tutorial on how to use it, and three recommendations were given. I then headed over to KaZaA and did a search for all three of them. The only result that came up was CuteFTP, so I downloaded that one... only to find out it was not free software and I had to pay for the full version after my 30 day trial (or what ever it was, it was years ago now so I can't really remember). So anyway, it was the client I learnt how to FTP with, and I've used it ever since. Obviously my opinion is very much biased in this case, but I do have to say that CuteFTP is the best client.

I can access mine fine, haven't had a problem at all getting into it. I might just be lucky though, who knows. But try again, it should be working now.

I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. Although the changes are only so subtle, they make a huge difference. It makes Windows look a lot more professional so you no longer feel like you are using a childs OS. It looked some what cartooney and baby-ish in some way, but the new theme fixes all that. Anyway, have fun with your new theme, and if you have any problems feel free to post here and ask.

512Kbps shared between 100 homes? If everyone was using it at the same time you'd be getting your share of only 5.12Kbps. Now that kind of connection would totally suck, and I think I'd much prefer having a regular dial-up connection at those times. I think you must have your numbers mixed up somewhere, 'cause I know I'd much rather have a 56Kbps steady dial-up connection than having a 5.12Kbps connection. Could you imagine the download speeds you would be getting... something like 0.6Kbps at best. Either you were very lucky and only a small amount of them 100 homes were ever using the connection at the same time, or you have those numbers confused and wrong.Either that, or I'm completely confused and have it all wrong. Either way, I'm fairly happy with my 1.5 Mb connection.

I've been thinking about getting a water cooling system for my computer for a little while, but haven't really looked into it too much because I just can't afford it right now. When I get some money together I will seriousky consider it. I was just wondering, has anyone here installed their own H2O cooling system? I watched that video posted previously in this thread about water cooling, and it all seems pretty complicated. Well the video wasn't exactly straight forward either, not like a step by step guide, so I guess it's not much of a great example. But is it really that hard to install? I'm guessing you can just buy a water cooling kit from a shop and it would come with instructions on how to install it properly? I'd just like to hear from someone who has done it themselves how easy or hard it actually was to install.

For that price you'd be better off getting OptusNet Cable. I'm guessing with the connection you have at the moment you'd be getting download speeds of about 50-60 kbps max? With OptusNet Cable you'll get average speeds of around 350 kbps... and in the right situations, speeds of up to 600 kbps aren't rare at all. The only down fall is the monthly limit, only 12 GB a month, unless you want to pay more. The other down fall is that this service is not available everywhere, which is why I had to give it up for this TPG 1.5 Mb connection when I moved to the other side of the city. This service isn't too bad, but I only ever see downloads get to about 160 kbps max at the best of times. Compared to OptusNet Cable, this is crap... although I guess the bigger limit of 20 GB a month is nice.

I always thought having a static IP meant you always have the same IP address every time you connect? Oh well, shows how much I know Anyway, here in Australia it's quite cheap compared to what some of you other guys are getting too. At the moment we're on a 1.5Mb connection and paying approx. $50 AU a month. So that's somewhere around $25-30 US. The only draw back is we have a monthly download limit of 20 GB. But we never use it all anyway so it's not really much of a problem for us. Upload has no limit either, which I guess doesn't really matter, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. The old connection I used to have was cable, and that was unlimited download speeds. Well not really unlimited, because it all depended on how many other people were using the network and the such.... but on occassions I got download speeds of up to 1 MB/sec... it was rare, but it did happen. Download speeds of 600 kbps were very common, but oddly enough, upload speeds on this connection were always very slow, only hitting around 15 kbps. But this connection cost me $62 AU a month... which I guess would be somewhere around $35-40 US. Very good price for the service, but it had a 12 GB monthly limit.

I had that same problem at first too. When I had a look at the drop down list and saw the 2 Windows XP styles in the list, I left the already highlighted option selected and checked the colour schemes available. I couldn't see Royale in there so I then selected the other Windows XP option from the drop down list. When I checked the colour schemes again, expecting to see the option Rolyale there, it wasn't there. I was quite confused, but went back and again selected the other Windows XP option that was originally highlighted. This time when checking the colour schemes drop down menu, the Royale theme had shown up, thank god. I guess it just takes a little playing around with, and if it doesn't show up at all, I think rebooting your computer would fix the problem. If you followed all the steps correctly it should work, at least it did for me. Hope this helps.
