For all you Thunderbird users, I would very much appreciate it if you could tell me what program you use to download Yahoo! mail onto your computer. I recently tried Yahoo POPs, which was, from what I heard, an excellent program. However, after following many people's instructions, I simply could not get it to download my mail. Does anybody have any tried and tested programs used in retrieving Yahoo! mail?(Yes, I know Yahoo!'s POP3 program is for paying customers only and that I am not looking for a true POP3 client, just something to download Yahoo! inbox mail onto my computer.)

I agree with you on your first point -- honestly, $15-20 for maybe ten or so songs? That's outrageous. Anyway, I must disagree with you on your latter point. I use highspeed Internet for viewing websites and checking mail. Hell, who wants to wait five minutes for a page to load when they could wait maybe 30 seconds? Productivity=Up

BitTorrent gets the job done Got myself TorrentStorm. It's an excellent client. I don't remember where it's at, so Google it if you want a simply, easy-to-use BitTorrent client. I'll tell you, Bram Cohen is a genius. I predict that his technology will be the basis for most new P2P solutions in the future. I once tried KaZaA Lite and Shareaza, but they created a bottleneck, which is bad if you're on a network. I really like getting whole albums at a time instead of individual songs from different people. That way I know it's not some troll who's sharing his 64kbps song and wasting my time. Generally the BitTorrent sharers are smart people who know what they're doing (you have to have some idea of what you're doing to create a .torrent file). To any Soulseek users: Does Soulseek create a bandwidth bottleneck when you're downloading, or does it work like BitTorrent? Thanks in advance.

This is definately a miss. You could easily get something better from Dell when you take advantage of one of their deals, which occur regularly. If you want an Apple, sure, this'll work. But if you just want a computer, this won't work. Why would I pay more for a box I can't open up, for which I can't replace the CD/DVD drive, I can't put anything more in, that includes only 5 ports, and that doesn't include a keyboard, monitor, or mouse? If I wanted to play DVDs, I'd but a DVD player. If I wanted to record TV, I'd buy a TiVo. If I wanted to play MP3s, I'd buy speakers.

Well, you can't really say too much about the XBox. I'm sure you realize that if Bungie made the next Halo for PS2, then not only would many PS2 owners buy the game but many XBox players would also buy a PS2. Similarly, if Halo were made for PS2 in the first place(I'm talking about the PS2 because it supports online play, unlike Nintendo's Gamecube), the XBox would essentially be left in the dust.And why do you say **** DOS? Before Windows came along, both DOS and OS/2 were quality operating systems. Nowadays everything is made easier because Windows has GUI.By the way, there's a big flaw in your argument. You seem to think people use Microsoft's software because it's good or that it's good because so many people use it...heh. Windows just supports a lot, Internet Explorer has a laughable amount of security holes, and Hotmail's service is definately not as good as Yahoo!'s or Google's. I wouldn't even use Windows Messenger, because when I see programs on freeware sites that offer to crack somebody's Hotmail through MSN in less than a minute, I know you should stay far, far away from it. Maybe Microsoft should stop working on Longhorn and fix what they've already broken.

Compared to USB keys, floppies are just not economical for newer computers. That's all it comes down to. USB 2.0 keys are fast, have a great deal of memory,and are fairly cheap. Now you won't need to split your files into little 1.4MB slices for a few floppies when you can put one whole floppy on a small MSD. If you really want to use floppies, there are external USB floppy drives.

I'm not surprised, and nor am I shocked. With all these keygenerator and authentication crack programs around I'm not surprised they have been used at big companies. In fact, I believe on the radio I heard that one-third of all commercially-used software (at least in the US at any rate) is pirated.

Actually Firefox IS safer, if nothing else because unlike IE, Firefox does not so readily allow Active-X files to be executed, as many times Active-X files on web pages can be used to hack your computer. Sure, there are some web applications that you won't be able to view in Firefox, but that's a small price to pay for keeping your computer safe.

I'm not impressed with the iPod. Before you start flaming me, let me say that the iPod costs too much. Yes, I realize that they cost so much because of the manufacturing costs involved in making hard disks that small, but for $300 for a 20GB hard drive, that thing better come with supermagical powers. And $400 for a 40GB hard drive? I could buy a new Dell for that price. The pricing scheme is messed up as well. $250 for 4GB, but $300 for 20GB? Maybe it's just me, but Apple is greatly overpricing the iPod mini. As far as the iPod Shuffle, that's a fair price, but considering how much music I have, 1GB isn't enough.Also, I've heard that you can't put songs you put on your iPod back onto your computer. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Many MMORPGs these days flat-out suck and aren't worth the monthly fee. However, if you have a source of steady income MMORPGs' monthly fees don't seem that bad. However, since most of them aren't very good, it's like throwing money out the window. Sites like Multiplayer Online Games Directory should help you determine what's not worth your time. Also, stay tuned to Guild Wars. Even if you don't plan on buying it, if its business model works (no monthly fee, but expansions occasionally released), ArenaNet could change the way MMORPGs are played.

I think Van Halen was especially important during the 80's...this was the time when they revolutionized guitar rock and made it big (remember "Jump"?). Queen also was big in the 80's...although moreso in Europe than in the US. Though Queen lost much of its fame in the US after The Game, they remained international superstars.

600x800 is a good size, though I would definately recommend that you keep some sort of original on your computer (or, if not plausible, a less scaled down image) just in case something happens to the result. If you're doing so already good for you When your original itself is digital you can't afford to lose it.

If you play video games there is a high chance you have bought a game published by Electronic Arts (EA). All of you who owns The Sims, raise your hand. Anyone who owns Battlefield (1942 or Vietnam, and soon to be Battlefield 2; also note that the series is developed by Swedish-based Digital Illusions CE, which EA is attempting to buy), you can raise your hand as well. Oh, and anyone who has one of the Madden football series -- go ahead. There are also various games published by EA, but that's not the main point. I think the Gbrowser rumor may be true -- it seems plausible enough; however, I doubt the Google IM is true -- there's simply no need for it. I think generally everyone is happy with AIM, YIM, os MSN. Do we really need a GIM? What would GIM offer that none of the former can?

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this before, but I found a company that's distributing freeware HTML and PHP editors called HTML Gate and PHP Designer: MP Software I haven't tried either of these, but I thought someone else might like to know. If anyone has other freeware web design programs feel free to share!

I don't believe any of it. After I read that the early humans were telepathic, I stopped taking them seriously. Not only is this unexplained, but if this guy is offering to make other people gods, why isn't he one himself? This is just a scam, and those 'testimonials' are very probably 100% fake.

Stem cell research is a good idea because it's not pre-emimently violent. For all of you who believe that steam cell research could harm people, remember that just about anything could be used to harm people -- heck, if you look around you there are probably a million things that could be possibly harmful. Just because something is new doesn't mean it's dangerous. If that were true then we never would have gotten past inventing the wheel!

Last DVD I watched was The Who Live at the Isle of Wight 1970. Simply put, it's an excellent live DVD. The Who play some songs from their mod period, a couple from their upcoming album Who's Next, and some from Tommy. The Who are clearly at their peak -- Pete Townshend plays the guitar wonderfully and jumps through the air wildly; Roger Daltrey screams in his primal, blues-powered voice; John Entwistle, silent as ever, plays hat bass licks at blinding speeds; Keith Moon bangs on his drums as if he has four hands. The sound and visual quality is unbeatable, and there are many camera angles that swtich from time to time. Also on the DVD is an interview with Pete Townshend from 1996, and Pete gives great commentary. Verdict: 10/10

I hate to tell you, but you'll need more than just HTML to make an RPG. You'd probably have to know a fair bit of Java and Visual Basic at the least. You'd probably need someone working with you to make that. It's not like it's a easy skill anyone can teach or learn.

I really doubt that Bush's probelms will all come down on him. He's prettymuch shown that he won't admit he made a mistake; after all, even though we never found any WMD in Iraq we got rid of a highly dangerous dictator -- never mind the fact that we went into Iraq for that very reason. And for all the people who'll say going into Iraq was good because we 'liberated' the Iraqi people, where were you before the war? On another note...I think Clinton was blamed for Bush's problems because Clinton served for two terms, which means that there was more time for him to mess up/have critics say he messed up.

I use Photoshop because not only is it very powerful software, but I'm used to it. For me Photoshop has always worked well, and I will continue to use it. I am a bit wary of Corel, on the other hand, because I once bought one of their products and found it to be completely awful (R.A.V.E. 2 isn't software -- it's a coaster), and until I'm shown that Corel is better for pixel based graphics, I'm sticking with Photoshop.

That's like saying Microsoft is better because Windows is used so widely. As you probably know, some people will disagree and go with a Mac OS or Linux. Maybe you should say, "Some companies are successful because they cater to a large amount of people, but sometimes companies are successful because they deal with people who have other interests.

I find that Google returns very relevant web pages almost every search, although Yahoo!'s directory is better. It's great that Google is forcing Yahoo! and MSN to shape up. Even Bill Gates once spoke of Google while talking about Longhorn, saying -- I believe thi is the exact quote -- "They kicked our butts."It's good that Google is soaring, but they should not dominate. There should be more companies like Google so people have a choice and not have to choose between one huge, superior vompany and many small, inferior companies.

You have to practice a lot. One thing that makes FontPage 2000 great is that there are three tabs: Normal (a WYSIWYG-esque interface), HTML, and Preview. Most of the main work I do in Normal, where you can build a site like you would build a document in Word. Then I look at the result in Preview, and if it doesn't work I inspect the code in HTML. It's instant gratification, unlike manually figuring out the HTML in Wordpad.
