<rant type="angry">WTF? iPods are one of the most elegant MP3 players I've ever seen. Apple are brilliant at implementing technology and design - the iMac was the first computer with a real sense of style. Sure, PCs are meant to work well not look good, but with an MP3 player it's not so much the size of the harddrive, but the looks. Noone gonna buy an MP3 player that looks like a clock or summin are they. It depends on your opinion I suppose - personally I like iPods, but am not going to buy one. Why? They cost too bloody much... </rant>

Picking Your Website's Name. Some tips if your stumped.
chilipie replied to Pokona.com's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Good tutorial. The one thing I always find hard when making a site is thinking of the name. That and choosing a colour scheme and layout. Maybe you should do tutorials on those - if I don't get there first .I've got a new name for my site now.I'll post back when I've finished it - I don't want anyone nabbing the domain name . -
How is my site? anawholesale.com coldfusion + php site
chilipie replied to chhchung's topic in General Discussion
It's professional looking, but "Mr. Joe Average" professional. Nothing new and interesting, no offence, but it just makes me think "another of those business sites". I don't particularyly like the yellow either. It doesn't brighten it up a bit, but it just doesn't seem to fit. Try using some CSS (http://www.w3schools.com/css/) to make the file sizess smaller, and to help livein the whole site up . -
If I bought a domain name - let's say chilipie.co.uk - could I replace my Xisto subdomain (redblizzard.astahost.com) with my new domain? It just seems stupid buying a domain and then still being able to access the site through my old subdomain. Thanks in advance,Ol.
-
Sorry . Should have checked the facts before having a go at you.It wouldn't be the first time I've done that to someone who didn't deserve it .
-
Don't think so. Xisto have got a domain name server, so they should be able to host any domain. In theory .

Actually, lots of the "spells" are based on Latin. JK Rowling has a degree in French and Latin . I see what you mean though. Harry Potter's ok but I think it's a bit crappy now. Like you said, the books are alright but the films are nothing like as good.

Do you mean they're changing the colour of the infamous blue screen ? I think Microsoft are going down. More and more people are switching to different OSs (I think I saw somewhere that 25% of PCs run Linux) - and MS aren't doing very well in the browser wars either. Lots of big corporations are also switching to Linux based OSs, and one helluva lot of servers run Apache on Linux. Start the rebellion of Open Source, and tell those evil Microsoft guys to f*** off!
-
But it's the browser that has to have JavaScript/Flash support, not the sever. Unless you mean you need a lot of space for Flash files - I can see what you're getting at if that's what you mean.

How To Change Your Start Button In Xp
chilipie replied to rmdort's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Isn't this likely just to f*** up the whole OS? I don't think it's a brilliant idea to change the system files . -
He didn't ask about MySQL. He asked about MSSQL.Read it carefully. And please, please don't use upper case ALL THE F***ING TIME!
-
Open file manager and then click on "Upload file(s)".You can browse your hard drive to find the files you want to uplaod by clicking on the browse buttons.
-
That must have taken a long time to write eh pedro?I suspect that Copy and Paste has struck again Watson... .
-
Have you got any "Hosted by Xisto" buttons I could use?
-
I think thats a bit of an unfair response - he was only asking. I suppose that the majority of the people that frequent these forums can speak English well, and that giving every different language a forum isn't feasible, but still, I don't think that was a very nice answer .

It's nothing very special really, the layout/colours are OK but it's just another blog really. It would bea lot nicer if you added a header image.Note: Tags should always be lower case.
-
He's talking about coding errors. http://www.w3schools.com/ try learning some basic HTML and CSS. If you add a Doctype to the top of your page, it will be a hell of a lot better. Why don't you add the inline styles to an external style sheet?
-
Yeah, you better sort out those errors. Stuff to improve: The shoutbox at the top is a bit distracting. The title would be better of as an image, as the text is fuzzy. I don't particularly like the gradient on the right hand side either. The menu is a bit too big. Too much space at the bottom of the page. Fade-in. Bleurch... Use an external style-sheet. Will save a helluva lot of bandwidth and editing. Tags and attributes should be lower not UPPER case. Unsemantic code. Eg. Paragraphs should be within <p> tags, code should be in code/pre tags. Font tags Argh! Sorry if I've been a bit harsh . Nice design though, and most of the improvements are to be made on the coding side of things though, so not to hard to fix...Hopefully. Ol.

I've got Word 2003 - can't see any menu items to create/export PDFs.
-
Notepad. Nice and simple, even Microsoft didn't go wrong on that one .
-
I didn't know you could create PDFs with Word - what version did you use?

<?phpswitch($_GET['page']) { case "contact": include("contact.php"); break; default: include("home.php");}?> The default page is home.php, the contact page is contact.php. Add as many as you like, and then save the above code as index.php. To link to the pages - index.php?page=contact. Hope that helped, Ol.

Web Browsers Which Browser type do u prefer?
chilipie replied to hast-webben's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Being popular doesn't make it better. It's more popular partly to do with the fact that it's installed with the OS. -
Becuase g-mail is still BETA, you have to get an invite to create an account. See this. However, I've heard some bad things about g-mail. Stuff about it installing Spy/Adware, so that it detects the things you search for and the sites you visit, and then displays related advertisements. Anyone else heard these rumours?
