  1. Mambo is the happening open source CMS now and its combination with Google AdSense can be very profitable. There are new modules released for this purpose. YOu can check them out here on mamboforge.net http://domainwords.net/?group_id=1668&release_id=4952 http://domainwords.net/?group_id=1675&release_id=4954 These are open source freeware and very easy to use. Hope thsi information is useful for you. These files are also available at: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  2. Notepad? It is primitive. Even if you are a hardcore coder, you need to have a look at HTML-kit. It is available on http://www.chami.com/. It has coloring options of codes for many languages and is an absolute beauty to work with. And it is a freeware.
  3. 3 You are welcome buddy, You will always get what you want here at T17. You just need to ask the right question in the right forum and hope that the right person answers you
  4. If you are not comfortable creating a subdomain through the cpanel, you can just create a folder and create the boards inside that folder. Then the new board would be accessible through http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Then is the problem of redirecting everyone to your new board. If you have current users in the present board, just make a new file called index.html and keep it in the source folder. These should be the contents of the index.html file: <html><head><title></title><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3;url=http://yoursite.XISTO.com/newfolder/;</head><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">You will be redirected to the new board in 3 seconds...</body></html> Notice that there are 2 variables here in the code. 1. content="" : Determines the time in seconds after which the user will be redirected to the new url 2. url=http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists//;: Determines where the user will be redirected to... You can play around with this... So next time a user types http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, he will be taken to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists// Isn't this fun? Googlue
  5. Drupal is not as userfriendly and feature-rich as Mambo.Drupal is okay for small personal sites. But if you wnat to make a site with good features and contant for a large number of usres, I would recommend Mambo to you. It is really very good.Have you seen Drupal sites, I feel they look more like 'blog' sites, not profesional websites. Mambo is another story. You can check out my site in the signature below for an example of Mambo... Notice from googlue: Edited to correct a wrong reply
  6. It is not easy making money on the Net... You need to have a good site with lots of visitors per day. Even when visitors are there, even if they have allowed ads, that is have not blocked them, it is very difficult to get them click it!!This is true and I have experienced it. Think about yourself, How many times have you clicked on google ads elsewhere? So why do you expect others to click on your ads?
  7. Dear hosted members, We have noticed that many members are knowingly or unknowingly breaking some basic rules of posting and hosting at T17. This has resulted in a lot of spam posts which in turn lead to more unnecessary work for moderators and admins, 'defacement' of the foums and sometimes even banning of the concerned member. The rules are there and you are also there. But have you read them? Usually, if you have read the rules and understood them, it is not expected that you break them voluntarily. This however can be expected of some unscrupulous elements whose main aim is to damage the good reputation that T17 has. Though we always check the box that says 'I have read and understood the terms of services etc', do we always do it? Specifically, HAVE YOU RAED the rules of Xisto? They are hre, listed, if you haven't yet!! But answer the poll too... that would be enlightening. You can also make a comment about how to make rules more readable... Terms of Service Privacy Policy Hosting Introduction and Rules Posting & Activity Rules Instructions for Titles and Descriptions Thank you Googlue T17 moderator
  8. Of course. Copying is strictly banned and it is very much in the TOS!This is what happens if you do not read the TOS carefully!! How many of us do?
  9. Absolutely... Almost every country now-a-days wants to be like America! That's a pity. What about the goodness of that country itself? It will take away the diversity of the whole World and eventually it will become very boring. It is already so... Whichver big city/ country you go now, they will certainly have one bird park, one zoo, one aquarium, one something something that you can see in every other place! They are so many amusement lands that are copycats of Disney Land... Pity pity...

    Metatags

You are right, nowadays, search engines know that they can be misled by unscrupulous webmasters who can insert unrelated metatags even without relevant content in their pages. SO they do the best thing possible under the circumstances - ignore the metatags and concentrate on the page title and page content. If you really want to have good serch listing, concentrate on good content and change the page title accordingly... it goes a long way. Have you noticed that the titles of Xisto forum keep on changing as you go from one page to another? That makes it more searchable by search engines. They are called Dynamic Page Titles and are very helpful as far as search engine listing is concerned...
  11. These Universities are probably in Italy or some other neighbouring Europian country if I am not mistaken.I make my guess based on the names of Universities themselves and the mention of Italy in the post...
  12. There is of course no straight answer for this poll. The closest I can come to is this: Intenet makes stupid people more stupid and intelligent people more intelligent. This is because stupid people do NOT know how to use the internet, so get misled and led astray by people waiting to victimize others. While, if you are intelligent, you know where to draw the line and keep safe. You will use the goods and keep away from the bads of the internet. THis is my opinion. When I say stupid ot intelligent, I actually mean internet-stupid and internet-intelligent.
  13. I did register sometime back after watching all the discussions, but it is too much work for the 2 cents they pay! You have sit in front of the PC and do nothing else but be on netbux to get a good pay! My goodness, and people ARE doing that!I do not think I will go there again! BTW, I did try to see if it is still working, but the site is DOWN! Good riddance!!
  14. Well, it must be one of those weird things happen sometimes in the web/network/your_own_pc! I have been using all the services of google you have mentioned in your post, including GMAil, Search and AdSense/AdSearch! I had no problem whatsoever with any of those, except for brief delays/non-opening of GMail site occassionally. GMail is anyway in beta testing phase, so it isn't unusual... Did anyone else experience this?
  15. Well, he didn't. This is what it says in the footer of the board. That means he has taken the forum software and installed it in his site. But has done a god job at creating posts and topics. Keep it up...
  16. It doesn't work in my network, probably some sort of security against this here... Good in a way, now I realize that my network isn't that bad afterall!
  17. You are right, snils, the discussion here is not related to the title. So I am here now to do the editing of the title so that it is relevant now...Title edited from "Saint Michael **special Edition** Tips And Tricks, Special edition-HTMl Editors" to "Saint Michael Poll: HTML editors - Which is the best?"
  18. Thanl God, you are a moderator... You can look for spam also 120 times a day and keep the forums clean!
  19. What do you mean 1GB per month? Your calculations must be wrong... How many minutes in a month? 30 days X 24 hours X 60 minutes = 43200 minutes (43200 KB= 42.2 MB) With further simple calculations, you get 1GB increase in space in approximately 2 years' time! That is, with the current rate of 1KB/min... Can you explain how you got to the 1GB per month answer?? It will be interesting, I am sure...
  20. Seems interesting. Aren't they putting their fingers in too many cakes?A web accelerator. I always thought they were spyware! Now from Google!! I hope this is not a spyware...They say in the beta testing phase, it is only for people in North America & Europe, so I cannot install and test it right away... sad...
  21. Dreamweaver is the best. I have a volume licensed copy from my company so it is good for me.I am surprised that you have Frontpage so high in your list, just under Dreamweaver. Frontpage sucks and is the worst editor. Junk codes and what not! Hope that nobody votes for it and give a 'good impresion' of that!BTW, there are a lot of polls like this here at Xisto itself, so you could have simply searched to get answers to your question without making a post/ thread for it!
  22. Don't worry, they will introduce 1GB to all members in a phased manner. I already have 1GB and noticed it just now, actually. When they upgraded from 6MB to 250MB, my account took some time to get updated... IT is fine now, now the battle is HOT! between GMail and Yahoo!
  23. Did you notice that if you type http://google.org/, you will be taken to a different page other than where you go if you type https://www.google.org/? The site that we are mentioning here in this thread is the second one. The first link just takes you to a typical Google english search page.
  24. When you make large content articles inside Mambo, you can paginate them, which means that you can divide them automatically into many pages with automatic generation of page numbers and links to those pages with a table of contents too! You use a mambot called 'mospaging' for this purpose and this comes installed by default. YOu ust have to type {mospagebreak} wherever you want the page break to appear. Under each page, you will have two links, one to the previous page and one to the next page. Many people have asked me how to turn these links into image links rather than text links. I have done this on my site http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. You can check it there. Here is the code to do that conversion. You need to replace the contents of the file - 'mospaging.php' in the /mambots/content/ folder of the Mambo folder. Here goes the code: <?php/*** @version $Id: mospaging.php,v 1.6 2005/02/04 21:13:48 saka Exp $* @package Mambo* @copyright (C) 2000 - 2005 Miro International Pty Ltd* @license http://http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html GNU/GPL* Mambo is Free Software*//** ensure this file is being included by a parent file */defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Direct Access to this location is not allowed.' );$_MAMBOTS->registerFunction( 'onPrepareContent', 'botMosPaging' );/*** Page break mambot** <b>Usage:</b>* <code>{mospagebreak}</code>* <code>{mospagebreak title=The page title}</code>* or* <code>{mospagebreak heading=The first page}</code>* or* <code>{mospagebreak title=The page title&heading=The first page}</code>* or* <code>{mospagebreak heading=The first page&title=The page title}</code>**/function botMosPaging( $published, &$row, &$params, $page=0 ) { global $mainframe, $Itemid, $database; // expression to search for $regex = '/{(mospagebreak)\s*(.*?)}/i'; if (!$published || $params->get( 'intro_only' )|| $params->get( 'popup' )) { $row->text = preg_replace( $regex, '', $row->text ); return; } // find all instances of mambot and put in $matches $matches = array(); preg_match_all( $regex, $row->text, $matches, PREG_SET_ORDER ); // split the text around the mambot $text = preg_split( $regex, $row->text ); // count the number of pages $n = count( $text ); // we have found at least one mambot, therefore at least 2 pages if ($n > 1) { // load mambot params info $query = "SELECT id FROM #__mambots WHERE element = 'mospaging' AND folder = 'content'"; $database->setQuery( $query ); $id = $database->loadResult(); $mambot = new mosMambot( $database ); $mambot->load( $id ); $params =& new mosParameters( $mambot->params ); $title = $params->def( 'title', 1 ); // adds heading or title to <site> Title if ( $title ) { $page_text = $page + 1; $row->page_title = _PN_PAGE .' If you make any changes to the file names or the image folder location, be sure that you have also edited the above file accordingly! I have made this change in code myself with whatever little php knowledge that I have. So enjoy! Googlue
