I read wikipedia articles alot because knowledge related to medical sciences is not found easily elsewhere, and I must tell you that I have never seen a picture on wikipedia that says that "this picture is under the copyright law and you are not allowed to reuse it" or something else which has the same meaning. Yes there may be pictures that are not allowed to be reused but I have never seen one by myself. Images that are from old sources like Gray's anatomy textbook etc. are completely free to be used by any one for any purpose. Some images are under the creative commons license and needs attribution. (You know all this, don't you)

I have not installed akismet because it required money and I don't have any for the time being. I am a student of Medical Sciences (future doctor) and the webmaster thing is not related at all to my professional field so I cannot get money from my parents for this lovely thing. I just do it to prove that even students can do something to earn some money and not to be a burden on my parents. (Its getting off the topic -- ha ha) I liked your opinion about moderation of comments. I have got 4 comments on my young blog and 3 of the commenters have given me a backlink. (( I am coming to know the importance of your suggestion of having a CMS based website. I am doing nothing and still I am getting backlinks. )) So if I can just remove the bad comments and keep all the good comments, then I think my website can improve quickly. But for the time being I am getting not much comments and I want to focus on adding new content to the website as quick as possible (because my medical study burden is increasing) so once I have enough content, I will surely set the comments to get approval first before going live. Now I do not agree with your suggestion of dofollow links. Look everyone that is giving us a link is giving a nofollow link, so why should I give a dofollow link to someone who is giving me a nofollow link. If I want a dofollow link from him, I will write an email to him that I want a dofollow link and in return I will give you a dofollow link, so it will be a better deal. What do you think. It is the same situation, as we discussed in the topic "Best website that pays upfront" where you said that why should we link to a site which do not allow us to link to our personal site through our articles. So why should we give a dofollow link who is giving us either nothing or just a nofollow link. Its business, isn't it.

I think thematic is good but will I need some knowledge of PHP for making things really good. How long will it take me to learn php. What do you suggest me? should I start learning php and waste another weak or two?

Thankyou friend for referring the link to me but it did not work. The comments.php in my theme did not have the code that was mentioned in the post.I also tried commentluv but I could not figure out how can it be used to add _blank attribut to all <a in my comments. So please tell mo another solution if there is?. I have made many modifications to the theme and I cannot change it because it will waist at least a weak of hard work. So please suggest me an alternate solution. I want to know more about moderation of comment. Suppose I make the setting that all comments should be moderated first before going live, will it not be a burden of work on me? I also want to know more about the nofollow attribute. All the wordpress blogs are nofollow by default and in my opinion it is the better strategy because I will not like passing my PR value to another site whose author just wrote a single comment on my website. What do you think?

I have recently set up a blog with my website and I have received a couple of comments on the posts there. The comments contain links and when I click on the links, the target is opened in the same page. I do not want to lose my visitors to the websites of commenters and I do not want to lose the commenters also. Is this possible that all the links that are in comments of all posts get a "target=_blank" element.

What is the best way to add source info to the source image. Should it be a link or just a statement like ""Author of the image"/wikipedia" would be enough. I have edited some images and I have added statement like "Original Image: Autor/wikipedia" or "Image source: Wikimedia commons: into the image. Now people can see it but surely search engines cannot. For The images that required attribution, I added the name of "author/wikipedia" in the caption of the image. Is this type of attribution good enough for all the pros you mentioned?

Adding google custom search engine will not be a problem but its not what I am looking for. I searched on the internet to find codes and I did find a lot of codes but none of them worked. There were complications like having a separate search.php file or adding code to the header.php file. I did not get it. Is there any way through which I can make my own search engine functional without going for additional plugins.

"The question is related to wordpress based websites"Is there any way by which I can prevent all children of a certain top level page from displaying in the pages widget. I am planning to make a website which is going to have more than 100 pages and if all the pages are going to appear on the pages menu, it will be complete menace. Also I cannot go and add the id of the newly formed page to exclude it from appearing in the pages menu each time I create a new page.Is there any php code or conditional tag or any plugin that will help me achieve this effect.

I had a static HTML website made in front page and I had placed a google custom search on it. A good friend of mine ("Starscream") on this Xisto forum suggested to go to the CMS based website instead of the Static HTML website so I went for it. Now I am very happy with the way things are going in the new interface. It is really easy to add new content and modify old content and there is not much problem with the SEO.I have faced a problem while I am in the last steps of finalizing the "design" of my website. The default search form of my theme displays result unexpectedly. Suppose I write a search term anatomy and press enter, instead of displaying the list of pages containing the term anatomy based on relevancy, it just opens the pages and display complete pages as posts in blog. Suppose three pages match the search keyword, the result of the search will be a single page containing three pages on basis of "unknown".First I want the seawrch to return a list of pages and not complete pages and second I want the most relevant page to appear first.

Starscream I could not understand what you meant by writing this sentence. If you are saying that modifying an image is violation of copyright law, then I would say to you that it is clearly written with the images that you are free to use the image for any purpose you want. I will take the meaning of this freedom of usage as that I am free to modify it as well. I also want to ask you another thing. There are some images on wikipedia that are completely free like the images from gray's anatomy while there are some images that state that you are free to share or remix the work but you must attribute the original to the author. Now what are the pros and cons of using this type of images
-
There are lots of free images available on wikipedia.org that are free to use and have no copyright. This feature is especially beneficial for me because I am developing a website on Human Anatomy and it is very hard to find images related to human anatomy if wikipedia is not used. There are images from Gray's anatomy textbook, the copyright of which is expired and the images are now free to be used by anyone. My question is that suppose I download an image that originally belongs to Grays anatomy that has no copyright to it and is free to use, and then I spend my time on the picture modifying it to become useful for the purpose I want to use it for and the I post it on my website, What will be the copyright status of that Image? Will it still be free to use for every one or I have some rights now.

Can I Have More Than 1 Tempelate Per Website?

Thankyou for your suggestion. I think you are right about the seo thing. I should have a link to my content pages from my index page so that search engines can index them quickly. If I can get to know how to make vertical drop down menus, I can get to it easily. Otherwise your comment is so strong that I will have to go for the drop down menu in which child is displayed vertically and grand child is displayed horizontally. Please clearify one thing to me. If the drop down menus use JavaScript instead of css, will the links in them be treated effectively by search engines. Can they produce the same effect as static links in the content of the page. -
Wordpress Themes Best Suited For Static Looking Websites
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Software
I have experimented with wordpress a lot yesterday. I have found that the best suiting theme for me is Mystique. It is a bit slow but I am fine with it. The best point in this theme is that even a novice like me can modify it to his needs by the editor given with the theme. I have also figured out how to work with drop down menu of the top navigation bar and I have also learned how to make specific item display on specific pages by the use of widget logic plugin. I have also learned how to make a static page your front page and how to keep the static looking site and the blog side by side. I have a few problems left and when I get enough experience to solve them, I will start building my website in wordpress -
I have checked the menu on the site you mentioned. It was really nice but I cannot use it on my website because if I do not place a main menu in the sidebar I will not have enough material to be placed on the sidebar and it will look rather empty. So what I need is A vertical drop down menu. Do you know how can I create a vertical drop down menu in the sidebar. I have figured out how to limit the display of number of items in the drop down of top navigation bar so I have no problem with it. I just need to know how to create a vertical drop down menu in the sidebar.

The Best Website That Pays Upfront

Please tell me more about keyword research. I am not using it at all. For the time being I do not want to write outside the medical domain but suppose I want to, then what should I write about? -
You are right making a site without extended navigation might not be a good idea but I think I hav to do it. I have structure of website in which I have to go at least 4 levels deep. I know this is not good from SEO point of view but to make my site easy to structure for my self, I have to do it or other wise it will be all a mess. So if I have 5 parent pages and each has 5 children, and each children have 5 levle2 children and each level 2 children have 5 level 3 children, the drop down menu can become a mess. If you have any idea how can I structure this type of website.

Please elaborate a little more on the concept of index.php in wordpress. Is it not the same as index.html in HTML. If not, then what is the function of index.php ans suppose someone writes some content on the index.php page, what will happen to the content on that page if it is not treated as index.html

What do you mean by use google titles ? I liked the bookmarking feature of the xomba and pleas tell me will there be any negative side of bookmarking every single page I have online. Also there is another good thing about xomba that the minimum word count for an article is only 150. Is there any special difference in the performance of very long articles as compared to 200, 250 words article at xomba. -
Can I Have More Than 1 Tempelate Per Website?
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Software
No I did not mean that there should be a separate template for every separate page. I think I have failed once more in conveying my meaning to you. The point I needed to make was that I want some pages of my website to be different than other pages in terms of; sidebars menus for links Page specific blocks etc.. The objective is to make the pages of my website that do not have much content to be ads free and in place of ads I can effectively add site navigation to these pages and hence I can increase the chance of lower level pages to be viewed more. So I want to make my home page, contact page, About page, and some other main pages to be completely free of ads and in the space where ads were present I want to add links to internal pages. The links to internal pages must be different on home page and other page. I mean that I want to display specific links to internal pages of my website on my home page and I do not want the same links to appear on other pages. Similarly I want to change the navigation items of home page so that the navigation items of home page have less links (links only to important pages) than the links in the navigation of some other top level pages. I will explain this with an example. I have one top level page "gross anatomy" and another top level page "Microscopic anatomy". Now I want the navigation of page "gross anatomy" to contain links like Upper limb, Lower limb, thorax, head, neck etc. On the navigation of Microscopic anatomy page I want to display links Epithelium, Glands etc So first I need to have different number and patterns of blocks ( I do not know the scope of the term block for wordpress but I am using it as an equivalent of "div" for html) on different pages and then I need different items in navigation and menus etc on different pages -
Wordpress Themes Best Suited For Static Looking Websites

If twentyten is the fastest wordpress theme then I think I should go for it as well but I liked K2 more than twentyten. If I can remove the drop down menus from the twenty ten theme, then I can give it a try. If you know how to avoid the sub pages of a parent page form appearing in the drop down menu, then please guide me. -

I checked both twenty ten and k2 themes and both were nice. I liked K2 more than twenty 10 because it does not have the drop down menu and for my website, I do not need any drop down menu. You have discussed themes and I have some related questions to ask from you. You said that I should modify the header to be more related to my website. What do you mean by that and How can I modify the header? How can I reduce the size of the header to a more sleek one rather than the default broad header? How can I add google ads to the website?. I need to place a link unit just below the navigation of the page. An ad unit on the left side of the page in a separate sidebar. I want a portion above the ad placed in the left sidebar for Links to pages that are related to the current page. I want place an ad unit below the title of the page in the body but above the first paragraph. I want an ad unit below the Menu in the right sidebar? Please guide me how can I add these links. Can I change the color of the buttons and links all over the website. I want my links to appear in different color than in which they are appearing now -
Yes you are right that child pages are very convenient for structuring websites but the problem in my case is that I want to make the links to certain child pages visible on the parent page while at the same time I want them to be not visible on other child pages of the same parent page. I know it can be simple but I am not familiar with wordpress so I cannot figure it out.
