Nirvana's popular stuff wasn't indie, at all but, if you listen to some of the songs on "With The Lights Out", it proves you wrong.Seasons In The Sun, Here She Comes Now, Clean Up Before She Comes, Opinion, Do Re Mi, Marigold and Old Age are all Indie songs. iGuest 3 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 Okay so people are getting all worked up on Nirvana not being "Indie" "Indie" classification is given to a band or artist which creates their music through an independent record label. This meant that the artist/band could create their own music without a big record company changing it to be more "marketable" Thus, the sound of these bands was more "alternative" and "original. Nirvana produced their records originally with Sub Pop, an independent record company and then moved over to DCG, which can be argued as an independent record company as well. Now a days, the term "Indie" has been used by teens and young adults alike to represent a type of emo-pop/ rock-pop brand of music, most times being produced by large record companies. This totally goes against the definition. So I hate it when these kids say that Nirvana, or Radiohead, etc. Were not "Indie" Thats false I guess I'm a music snob-reply by MusicIsMusic Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

iGuest 3 Report post Posted October 17, 2009 Dispatch is the best indie band ever. They never were signed and sold out Madison Square Garden for 3 nights. Also they had a free concert in Boston which 100,000 plus people coming from all over the world. Mostly their music spread through per 2 per file sharing. Not to say that those other bands are not bad, but Dispatch proved a band can get noticed without having to be signed at all. Their "last" concert was in 2004 but they have held reunion shows since then. Look up more about them to find out what they accomplished. The Libertines The Smiths Stone Roses Joy Division The Cribs Sex Pistols (I know their not indie but great band). Arctic Monkeys Muse The Rakes Happy Mondays.
