duptyfied 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) Many people consider eggs as non-vegetarian but scientifically eggs are vegetarian even in terms of the world.Ok I am going to get a little disgusting here but it is only with the intention of getting the message across. You know women have their periods right and what exactly is that? It is just the flushing out of the unfertilized egg. Meaning no sperm has mated with egg and hence there is no formation of life but it is a good source of protein though.Similarly the eggs in the market are all unfertilized because only unfertilized eggs have a larger shelf life as fertilized eggs need specific conditions so that they can develop, else they spoil soon. These eggs available in the market will not hatch even if you place them in an incubator or under a hen. Besides the poultry farms that we have keep the 'market egg laying hens' seperate from the roosters. So, if you can consider consuming milk as a vegetarian animal product, you can do the same with these eggs too. Ananya 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2012 The main question is what is actually can be termed as vegetarian? Anything that is being produced is non-veg and anything that is being produced by plants is veg.The logic you have put above to prove that eggs not mated with sperm i.e unfertilized eggs can be termed as something veg.The protein we get from eggs is termed as animal protein. In that context milk we get from cow isn't veg.I had read in an article true vegetarians in America consume milk extracted from soyabean seeds. yordan 10 Report post Posted May 7, 2012 If you follow the definition stated by Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism Vegetarianism encompasses the practice of following plant-based diets (fruits, vegetables, etc.), with or without the inclusion of dairy products or eggs, and with the exclusion of meat (red meat, poultry, and seafood). Abstention from by-products of animal slaughter, such as animal-derived rennet and gelatin, may also be practiced. Then, there is no problem, vegetables with or without eggs comply vegetarianism definition. ritu 1 Report post Posted May 24, 2012 That article fills me up with the utmost pleasure, I am a die hard egg fan, HAIL EGGS!!!! An egg-etarian like me would be rejoicing all day when there is a possibility that eggs can be had even when you need to have vegetarian food. Actually, eggs are easy to prepare and are quite filling, moreover they taste fabulous and even kids have it with little effort put as has to be done while feeding them. Actually, eggs are easy to prepare and are quite filling, moreover they taste fabulous and even kids have it with little effort put as has to be done while feeding them. However, do not forget to also eat some vegetables and/or fruits. Else, first of all you will not be fully vegetarian, and secondly you will loose all the benefits which are in vegetables and not in eggs.
ritu 1 Report post Posted May 30, 2012 As a matter of fact, I am not a vegetarian, though i am allergic to sea food. In India, on certain occasions we have to go for vegetarian food, that is what I was talking about. However you are right in saying that vegetables have a lot of nutritional elements and should invariably be included in one's diet, thankfully my husband does take care of that. Eggs can be a good source of protein, so my has advised me to have them in breakfast. But if given a choice, I would have them throughout the day.
Quatrux 4 Report post Posted May 30, 2012 Where I live, we call vegetarians people who don't eat meat, but can drink milk and eat other milk products, like cheese, yogurt, curd and etc. I've heard some vegetarians even can eat some kind of fish, but I doubt they're real vegetarians, why they don't interpret fish as meat? Even though it's alive, so I can't really say, maybe it's just a diet without chicken, pork and etc. :DSo to continue, people who don't consume eggs, milk products and anything what have come from animals, we just call them vegans, they consume only plants, I don't know if it's good or bad, but I wouldn't do it. :PSo there's such a difference I guess between a vegetarian and a vegan? one consumes eggs, milk, the other doesn't? :)Just my few cents.
