Video Quality Avi Mp4 Mkv Etc

i do downloading videos and when i come across a file for download it has a information about it's format/size etc...now what i'm curious to know is, what does it mean when a video has this:Video:576x288 492kbps25fpsnow i understand the 25 Frames per Second and resolution of 576x288 pixels but the 492kbps i'm abit confused aboutwith a hight kbps would that mean better quality? i can google this but would see if anyone here can pop me a quicker answer....cheers
