I tell you, there aren't many popup blockers that are small but powerful and blocks all types ads before they are loaded. Nice! And this does boost your browsing speed. That's one of the reasons why I switched to Mozilla Firefox. They have a built in pop up blocked which is really good. I think that Internet Explorer is trying to do this as well... scryoko 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2006 Hey, Thanks for providing pop-up blocker programs but I do have a question... With these programs, since they block pop-ups, does that mean that, let's say for instance, I want to download something off of the internet and in order to do that, a pop-up window must open and pop-up so that I can choose the destination of where I want to save that download. Will any of these programs provided block those kind of pop-ups too? And what about other pop-ups that inform us that we are entering a secure site or that we are leaving a secure site and etc. Will these be blocked as well? And though not really that significant, what about those pop-ups on people's websites that just pop-up to say, "Thank you for visiting my site!" or something along those lines. Same question, will these be blocked too? Or are the ONLY pop-ups these programs will block are those annoying ads and banners? I'm sorry for bugging you guys with these questions (maybe I was becoming annoying by asking them... ;; ) but I kinda want to make sure that the pop-ups that aren't ads and banners will still pop-up even after I download any of the programs provided. And if you want to download your thing you must de-activate your firewall, your pop-up blocker, your antivirus... and you are really exposed to danger. Jeigh1405241495 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2006 Popups don't seem to bother me often anymore, be it in firefox (obviously) or IE6 on my 'rents computer when I visit them. Both have pretty decent popup blockers. There is one site I visit sometimes that managed to get a popup past firefox, but it's rare as that's the only one I know of that I've had a popup get by in FF.The IE6 popup blocker lets a few more through (for me at least) but it's still really decent. I'd rather just let those handle everything if they can rather then install more stuff to bloat up the systems. I used to use a program called "free surfer mk 2" but the newer versions are kinda annoying to me so I just upgraded my rents IE (well, got them sp2) and voila, no more issues.Now luckily most popup blockers, be they built in or external, allow you to set certain sites to let popups through. So if you DO need to download something that the killer kills the dialogue box, just set that site as 'allowed'. Alternatively, usually you can just click a notice icon or bar that says a popup was blocked and choose to 'temporarily allow popups from BLAH.com" and then refresh and the popup survives.Really popups haven't been an issue for me for years... ever since I went to Firefox hehe. But once I realized that firefox could block them I walled my 'rents comp too with popup blockers. As long as they keep up with the ad creators (I remember when they figured out most popup blockers didn't stop popunders for awhile...*shudders*) we'll be fine. It is provided with a self-sufficient pop-up blocker (although I've never seen the feature). Alright, that was silly of me to say about something I've not seen. Fine, then. What about Internet Explorer 6 with Windows XP Service Pack 2? I'm sure people with that combination ... well, not all people but at least many really like it. I like it. I hope others do too. It's a really good software! Firstly, it notifies you of any pop-ups it has blocked. Then, you can choose if you want to keep that permanently blocked, view the pop-up, or set it to "safe mode" for this website or that specific pop-up, I think. Well, anyway, it's a really good program and I don't think it's necessary to download a pop-up blocking program. I think it wastes your computer's CPU & RAM usage during booting and start-up screen. I mean, UGH! It's really annoying to wait for a minute to get all quitened down, no? But, still... I like pop-up blockers. They help us Thanks for that little Popup Free link thing. lonebyrd 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2006 I started using Firefox yesterday and got about 20 pop-ups. I never got that many on IE. I figured I've heard so many good things about FF I'd give it a try, but I'm seriously considering going back to IE. Is there a way to to change the pop-up configuration settings that I haven't seen. I did a spybot scan and had to fix a bunch of things last night, almost never anything when I use IE, so right now I am highly disappointed with FF. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I've installed FF on a crapload of computers, used it one a varying range of system on various connections going to various types of sites... and extremely rarely see popups at all.That having been said, in the preferences there should be some basic popup options. As well, I know there are extensions available that make the popup blocker stronger. I don't know the exact name, but a quick search on the extension page would find them for you.Really, the fact that you are getting popups where you didn't with IE is hard to believe for me haha. Unless you are looking at some crazy porn sites that know their visitors all use FF and they have specific ads to sneak past its popup blocker hehe Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Hopefully it's just a downtime for it or something, because I do like it. It's taking some getting used to, but overall, I can see myself switching if the popups stop.
