miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 I am NOT JOKING and I do understand this is not April Fool's Day A 125 years old muslim lady sprouted a new tooth !! Serious dude - it just came on local TV news here in West Bengal, India. They even showed an interview of the family of this lady. In our culture, when an infant sprouts the first tooth - we hold this ceremony known as Annaprasan - when the baby is fed solids (usually rice) for the first time ever. The family of this old woman is so thrilled at her sprouting a tooth at this age - they've even organized a ceremony like that for her.. hehe.. they just telecast the whole ceremony on an Indian channel known Alpha Bangla. I didn't quite catch the name of the woman or the village she lives in - but it should surely be up in the news by tomorrow. More details later...

Sarah81 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 Did this woman's biological clock finally reset itself and start her over in the usual babyhood things all over again? That would be beyond creepy. But interesting in its own strange way.And does her culture have a tooth fairy of sorts? Or does the ceremony for the first baby tooth cover that part of things? Both my parents are dental surgeons and I asked them about it - what my dad says is that there's this situation called impacted tooth - where the tooth had come out in the normal cycle - but never managed to make it way out of the jawbones through the gum. Teeth like these remain hidden for extensively long periods - sometimes they never come out.. and sometimes they just pop-out one fine day, at a very late age. This might be a case like that.. sagaxx 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 damn , this is really strange . I am wondering myself how she had this tooth there and she didn`t feel anything , it should be hurting when it`s getting out , or wanting to go out
jipman 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 Too bad mse, I already started to think that humans were starting to evolve or something. Not having the ability to grow new teeth is a kinda of a bug in our genetic makeup I suppose.Anyway, in this way, you can't call it a new sprouting tooth can you? WeaponX 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 Topic caught my attention...Man that's a lot of years... Was bored and tried finding more information on this person, but instead found these two other people: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/2543879.stm http://www.nbcnews.com/id/7090143/ If the lady from the first link is still alive today, she would be around 128/129... Yeah, I agree with you sagaxx. They definitely set a new guiness record...
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 Thanks dude - they made real interesting reading. The fact is there are loads of cases like these - who have far outlived the Guiness Record-ed age. But most of them lack a proper birth-certificate - which happened to be a rarity during those times - thus, preventing them from pushing up the Guiness Record limits. Their only proof is memories from two centuries ago.

Shadow X 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2005 Wow...this story really is incredible. At 125 years of age, I was used to thinking the exact opposite...that people would start to lose teeth! Are scientists investigating this? Or is this a common thing? Houdini 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2005 Teeth can do weird things, I remeber reading a case of a fellow who started growing a tooth out of his foot. I also had a childhood buddy that had two sets of baby teeth, when he lost his first baby tooth another one replaced it, not an adult tooth, he was nearly to full adulthood before he had lost both sets of teeth and had his 'permanent' teeth, that was kinda strange. Shooting Star Haven 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2006 I don't think that report is legitimate. In fact, I don't even think someone can live past 115 years. Studies show, one out of a billion people will live to grow past 110 years. So to me, this is just a made up story. Think about it this way. It is possible that someone will sprout a tooth at age 125. It is not probable that someone will sprout a tooth at age 125.
