Holy Crap! I Didn't Know This About Astahost! :: -30 credits = off with your site ::

Recommended Posts

Holy crap, I'm going to complain about Xisto.

From a poster here:

Once your hosting credit reach a negative number, your site will be taken down. Once it reaches -30, your account will be terminated and all files will be deleted. So as long as you don't get down to -30, all your files will still be intact.

OH CRAP!!! I am NOT secure with Xisto. What if I croak? Or get kidnapped? Run over by a car? Struck with lightning?!!! I want my site to be here after I die!

Lets see, I'm 14, most people live to 100 so:

100 - 14 = 86

I can only maintain my site for 86 years at best?!!1 Yeesh I'm scared.

*Shudders* I have questions. Do warnings count? Can I avoid this if I become a Moderator or an Administrator? [i'm really good with Invisionboard.] Do you pull this kind of crap in Xisto, because I can go there. Yes that's a threat. I JUST DON'T WANT TO DIE!!!

*Goes into fetal position*

Okay I'm calm now. Lets just discuss this calmly and rationally..

I REALLY, REALLY SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY DON'T WANT TO DIE!!! Ever!

*Breathes* OpaQue, you're my homie right? Yes, so you can help me.

*Calms down*

First of all, is there anything I can do to lower my warning? Anything??!!

And another thing is if I take on the job of being a staff member, will credits matter? If so, how can I be one? Because I'm seriously well experienced with the job. Honestly, I was a staff member on many popular types of forums. I can handle anything, especially something as easy as Invisionboard.

If it helps, I have a forum skin you can use. It was professionally done by me and I'm sure you'd like to use it.

One last thing, if you cover up my site with some of your banner/pop-up ads, will I get a deal from it?

SOS!!!11

Notice from vizskywalker:
Posts merged, I saw no reason for them to be separate as they were essentially one idea

Astahost and Xisto are both forum based webhosting. This means that you must stay active in the forum to keep your site going. It is not impossible to rack up time, microscopic^earthling already has over one year, maybe two by now, of credits. If, and yes, when, you die, your hosting will eventually be taken down unless you have someone post in your name, maybe you could leave your username and password in your will and make upholding the site a condition of inheritance. If you want a more permanent solution, create your own server. All hosting, paid or free, will end when you die because the company will stop receiving your money, except for small time companies that place ads on your site and offer minimal hosting. No you cannot get more permanent hosting for ads, if ads on your site could generate that much money for it to be worth it, you could place ads and buy hosting to get more permanence. Yes administrators and moderators must follow the same credit rules as everyone, and, on any forum, asking to be made staff is almost a guarantee that you won't be.~Viz

Well a good way to lower your warning would be to no longer use words like crap, and make posts that have contents, unlike this one, it's just a bunch of shouting and linebreaks.EDIT : Member has been banned

Funny. Well, Everything comes at a price. You can however do this to save your site from going down, even after you die. Purchase hosting for like 200 or 300 years.OR Get sick and spend rest of the time you live on asta collecting credits.OR Donate like a Million dollars to some big organisation and ask them to keep your site alive forever..

Or, here's another way: get your site popular enough that it deserves to last forever. Set up Google ads on your site or a pay per impression ad system, have it pay to a pay-pal account. Set up your webhoster and domain registrar to be paid automatically with pay-pal. Then, as long as pay-pal exists, your site will stay up.Or, better yet, simply create a business or organization around your website and have a position of webmaster.~VizEDIT: It seems ironic that DA was concerned about losing hosting, yet made moon mad enough to get permanently banned and lose hosting. However, this topic has become a breeding ground for ideas of how to create posthumous hosting situations.

Nah... he wasn't concerned about losing hosting. He got bored of this place... check out one of his previous posts where he tried to start a flame war. IMO, he just wanted out and wanted to have some fun (at others' expense) before he left.

Yes Jeigh, it was. This tactic, humorous line, whatever, has been repeated on many forums and has been posted to bash.org (although that would be the IRC version) many times. We should leave the spacewasting to spacewaste, the moderator in charge of it.~Viz

This is the second member I've seen doing this today (read two threads today I mean). I hope it doesn't continue, it'd be a shame to let comments like that happen, it might discourage people from coming to asta.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

no offence infamousflame .. but there are 2 kinds of people to the forums, 1 who come for what the forum is really ment for and the other for the fun of it or whatever reason hez got ..

I joined this site for hosting, wouldent lie on that .. but there are people who like to socialise with the rest and i guess many people out there so want to keep friends and have a fun time sharing sensible content .. asta was or " IS " the first site i came across that banned a guy for using the word "crap" .. lol .. although the guy was funnny with his problem of hosting credits .. he was deserved to be banned ..

I bet asta would get million more members in the next comming years .. atleast i bought in .. ummm 10 users i think by spreading the word .. and would keep telling it to ppl cause most of them dont know how things work around .. so i hope they keep banning Freeks and let this be a clean .. humorous .. informative forum :D m with ya guys !

cheers ..

Well put dhanesh. Although, just for clarification purposes, he was not banned for using the word you mentioned. Although it would be better to not even use that kind of language (we have people on this forum who are under 13), the reason he was banned is because of his bad attitude all around, shown many times in many ways, as well as spamming.~Viz

ohh .. well using the word was just one reason .. but getting banned for spamming and bad attitude, lol .. well he shure has outdone himself in that.

Suggestion : How about Xisto puts newly registered members on a probation of some sort ? like a required amount of posts without warning would start the credit counter. Well it seems like a painful job and also it can put new members to a think twice situation .. but thats just my point of view ..

cheers .. :D

IMO, isn't that inherently taken care of? I mean like, it's only after they review the posts made by the noobs that they are given hosting. If someone is found spamming or posting nonsense, doesn't help them get hosting. And if hosted members start spamming, then they are given warnings. Too many warnings => ban.
