hey.im an amature photographer, and i was wondering if you guys know any good (free) photo editor. right now i use GIMP. but if you have any suggestions i would like them.thanks

As far as I know, the GIMP is the best free open-source image editing program around, with its many funcationalities against the industry's best but costly Photoshop. I don't know of any free photo editors that are good, unfortunately. I think Paint Shop Pro gives a thirty day free trial if you want to try that: http://www.corel.com/en/

 

I actually liked PSP when I used it.

 

There are some free photo programs at downloads.com, but I do not think they are very good. I wish there were good photo programs out there that were free, but unfortunately I don't think there are any. Photoshop is around $80, so you might try that. iPhoto is good for simple things like cropping, getting rid of red eye, and converting to black and white.

Save yourself the trouble and invest in Photoshop Elements 3. Sure, it costs about $99, but the ease of use will save you time in the end. GIMP is great if you can handle it, but your limited because of the lack of Photoshop plugins and actions.

alrighty, let's get things straight:irfanview has very little options.gimp is about the best thing you'll find for freeif you're willing to spend money or go illegal, go for adobe elements if you wan't easy photo correction, or paint shop pro. this is for things like red-eye removal and stuff.if you really want a pro-tool, adobe photoshop is the only answer , but gimp is getting pretty close, so i don't think you need to change editor, gimp is really really good!

To me, nothing beats the power of Photoshop CS, you can get a free download at http://www.adobe.com/ (30 day trial) and give the baby a test drive, you'll be hooked because I was, I went out and bought a copy cost a lot but I was happy. You can always do it the less... legal way, I won't tell you how here because I'm pretty sure it violates some sort of rule.

photo studio 2000 has worked for me and i am very happy with it u have to but it but in the long run u will really enjoy using it well peace out and god blessOzzy

You want FREE? A decent little photo editor can be found at Nonags.com called Pixia. It is really easy to use and the results are pretty good. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a good entry-level graphics editor, especially for photo enhancing.

You can always use the trial versions of Photoshop or that Elements thing and then I guarantee you will never stop using it....yes it is that addictive!

Paint Shop Pro is my favorite. i believe the lower versions are free --- but the good veresions are pretty cheap.

Unfortunately, if you're serious about photography, you cant afford to not afford a good program. (lame line i know...)Theres no free substitute for photoshop. It's industry standard, so anyone who's anyone in the photography world has it. Download the trail and see for yourself the wonders of what is probably the best program ever created.

I have always used paintshop pro and photshop as my photo editing programs, but i tried GIMP and its still works fine from me. i have never tried photo studio 2000 though.

There are tons of great photo editing programs out there today and not all, well most of them aren't free, this is because of the features the programs have.Take for instance, Ulead Videostudio, this isnt free, well it is free if you buy certain Video Cameras, this wouldnt be a free software because you can transfer your videos to the software, edit them to make them look real good, and add effects to them and then, you can use that software to burn your movie to a DVD. Of course you have to have a DVD burner which I have, I have burnt loads of movies to DVD using that software.Ulead PhotoExpress isnt free either. Only free with certain Digital cameras. I find this software not the best in Photo Editing as you have to set up the printing, you cant just print it the way you have taken the picture, you have to set the middle of the photo and depending on the picture you took, if it is of something big like a foot ball field, its real hard to set. I have printed albums and albums of photos using my digital camera and Photo Express. Some photos didnt turn out so well, but now I have bought a new printer with Pict Bridge technology and I just print it without using my computer, just print them via the printer.If you buy a Kodak digital camera, you will get photo software, Kodak Easyshare, you use this to transfer your photos, print them and even edit them if you want. I found this software so user friendly and easy to use that well, even a baby could use it. Well maybe not a baby, but you get my idea. Any old person can use it. I used that when I had my Kodak Digital camera but now I have another one and don't need it. I found it so easy to use, easy to transfer, edit and then print my pictures. The best feature of the editing was the quality of the red eye reduction.Ok, so there you have three editing softwares. If your camera offers a program to edit your photos then use that one. If not, I recommend Adobe photoshop because it's great at everything! Paintshop pro works fine... (It's quite similar to adobe photoshop) I like both of them and NI use both of them so you can choose between those two... Those two I recommend. Maybe try find any programs you already have which is included in your cd case or something...
