Here's another website with a lot of free stuff on it:

The Free Country: This website has lots and lots of free things that you can play around with. The Free Country tends to focus on Programming and web development. The site contains free text editors, compilers, IDEs, scripts in Perl and PHP and tutorials on how to use them. It's amazing how many programming languages this service covers. From the typical C family and Java to Fortran and PASCAL, this site has you covered. It even has tools that allow you to create your own programming language, compilers, debuggers, ect. if you felt so inclined. So, if your just starting out with programming or simply want to try your hand at your own personal programming language and your strapped for cash, this site has you covered.

PrintFolders PrintFolders can create directory listings and output them to txt or html files. The html can contain direct links to the files. PF can also read id3 tags from mp3 files and include that info in the listing. Great proggy. (they have a simple little tetris clone on thier site too)

Media Player Classic The best video player bar none. Has the interface of WMP 6.4, but tons more features, excellent playback quality, and low resource usage. Has its own built in mpeg2 decoder along with tons of other things. I only have 2 video players on my pc, this, and vlc for incomplete files. (Link at betanews goes to the 2000/xp version, click Here for the 98/me version.

oggdrop is a great little proggy for encoding to vorbis, however, i'd recommend the version at This location as its a little more advanced and tweaked.

EncSpot i guess a lot of people know about this app, but some dont. Basically EncSpot will tell you what encoder was used to compress your mp3 files. Can be very useful if you're a quality freak, or just curious to know what encoder did it.

IconSushi A great program for making icons from ICO/BMP/PNG/PSD/EXE/DLL/ICL files. Can add the alpha layer for windows xp, make multiple icon files, export to ICO/BMP/PNG/ICL formats. Very handy if you do any work with icons.

Audacity is an audio editor. You can record sounds, play sounds, import and export WAV, AIFF, and MP3 files, and more. Use it to edit your sounds using Cut, Copy and Paste (with unlimited Undo), mix tracks together, or apply effects to your recordings. It also has a built-in amplitude envelope editor, a customizable spectrogram mode and a frequency analysis window for audio analysis applications. Built-in effects include Bass Boost, Wahwah, and Noise Removal, and it also supports VST plug-in effects.

BatchRun is a 32-bit utility that lets you start several Windows programs or files simultaneously. You could always use a DOS batch file for this, but BatchRun's scripts run much faster. Specify whether programs should start maximized or minimized, and configure delays between application launches. BatchRun's attractive interface makes it a breeze to create scripts. Internal commands include Copy, Rename, Makedir, and Delete. The BatchRun script extension (.brs) is registered so that you can launch scripts from Explorer just by double-clicking them.

URL2BMP Converts html pages to images.

Win Over Boost , Windows, in all its versions, has always had of the problems in the management of RAM, the Paging file and the Cache. This prog has a simple graphical interface, that displays use of RAM, Swap file and CPU, and just click the mouse in order to optimize, Use this carefully--it does alter your Windows registry.

My Uninstaller is an alternative utility to the standard Add/Remove applet of Windows operating system. It displays the list of all installed application, and allows you to uninstall an application, delete an uninstall entry, and save the list of all installed applications into a text file or HTML file. MyUninstaller also provides additional information for most installed applications that the standard Add/Remove applet doesn't display: product name, company, version, uninstall string, installation folder and more.

OrphansRemover searches and deletes shortcuts (*.lnk files) with an invalid target in the given folders and subfolders, like your Start menu, Recent documents, etc. These so called orphans are typically the result of uninstalled programs, deleted or moved documents.

What is NetMeter?

NetMeter is a small, customizable network bandwidth monitoring program for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/NT4/2000/XP. NetMeter is and will always stay freeware. The program has been tested extensively on Windows 2000 and XP, but it should work just as well on all other Win32 operating systems. At the moment there is no online-help or support available - sorry!

Uses 6-7% of my AMD K6-2 550 CPU in focus , 1% trayed. 6.6mb of RAM.
This program is a clone of DU Meter ( http://www.hageltech.com/dumeter/about ) but fully functional freeware :-) It has Daily, Weekly and Monthly reports which you can export (not sure what kind of format).
This is a handy program if you have download limits (I have a 30gb soft limit per month, haven't been shaped yet though) or if you just want to know your download speed or how much you've downloaded/uploaded (which is handy for those torrent sites which you gotta keep an eye on your ratio)

MythTV the best replacement for your tv recorder. MythTV.com.

MythTV is a linux based program that can upload your tv channels and schedule. It is capable of formating the video files into mpeg 2 which is the best type of extention for buring to dvds and mpeg 4. I has the capablites to be hardwired for your HDtv (if you have one) and connect it to your computers tv tuner. It is best to have a new large hard drive when using MythTv.

If you want to know how to install and configure your MythTV settings according to your area go to Systm.org.
