RGF 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2005 Got another one for all of you tweaking firefox out: 1) Ok fire up the fox Just a heads up these settings make you download sites considerably faster, BUT they put a great deal of overload on the sites you visit 2) type in "about:config" the address bar and then hit enter You'll see a whole load of options here you will need to change some of the values. These ones: network.http.max-connections = 64 network.http.max-connections-per-server= 20 network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server= 10 network.http.pipelining = true network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 100 or 200 (choose one) nglayout.initialpaint.delay = 0 network.http.request.max-start-delay = 0 if you can't find "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" your going have to make it. Just right click and hit new integer. network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy = 10 network.http.proxy.pipelining = true network.http.proxy.version = 1.0 now close down firefox and start it up again. Now Firefox will burn up the web
Rudy1405241475 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 This is great! But if you change the settings to only half of what you stated here a person will still see a great improvement in the speed. I have always wondered if this could be done or we would have to just wait till the new upgrade come out. It’s nice I like it already!
overture 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 is this safe? i would like to try it but would it screw up firefox in some way that noone knows about? is there anything you have experienced after changing these settings?i am just curious to know before i change it all. RGF 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Depends on what you think is safe.. firefox was made to be modded in a way. As for it screwing up firefox my friends and I have all done it and haven't seen anything wrong from it, but that doesn't mean that something can't go wrong. Just means it shouldn't. For what I have experienced after doing this... the d/ling speed of a site seems to be faster, but not that much.
InjunSteve 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 i did it and have gotten no problems since. noticed a increase in speed, although not a great one. kind of like speeding up your modem on 56k, i forget how but it involved changing some numbers around and it would be much faster
ouachiski 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I have been running these settings for quite some time now with no problems. The start delay setting I would not recomend to anyone with a slower computer because in the end it will just slow things downthose of you using windows xp can greatly inprove the start time of firefox by making it prefetch. All that you have to do is put "/Prefetch:1" minus the quotes at the end of the target box in the short cut.
jcguy 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I tried this tweak, and Firefox does fetch files and pages faster. But on my computer, it's still quite slow for surfing the net. I suspect it's because Firefox is using up much CPU on my computer. What can I do to further speed Firefox up?
Strykerclan Leader 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Optimise your internet conenction speed. It's something like about:config above but to make sure you don't make a mess out of your registry, get SpeedGuide's TCPOptimizer.I cannot gurantee 100% that there will be a significant increase in speed but however, it may vary from many reasons. The tweaks stated above can increase surfing speed but it will slow down downloads that are on. qwijibow 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 Im curiouse... Has anyone had a go at tweaking Firefox's source code ???I compiled firefox myself. the pre-compiled firefox is linked againsed the older GTK graphic library, (all my other programs are linked againsed th enewer gtk2) compiling yourself with the "gtk2" use flag will link it againsed gtk2. saves me having to download gtk1 and gtk2 themes
evion 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 Wow! Excellent! My firefox is now super fast! What actually was done to increase the speed of loading webpages? Just curious as there is no real way you can really INCREASE the speed of loading... thanksErm...I think this might be out of the question but i just wanna know how this "number of posts" thing operates. Is there a minimum word limit or something to get 1 good post? thanks
qwijibow 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 more than 3 lines, no spam, decent conent i think. The tweak seems to work by allowing firefox to open even more connectinos to download through.did you ever use those Old downloading accelerator programs back in the days of windows95 ?like DAP (download accelerator Plus)Lets say a server is getting bogged down with connections, it will split its bandwidth between all the users downloading from it.hyperthetical situation....100kb/s maximum server bandwidth.100 users downloading.each user has a modem campable of 6kb/s, but the server is sending at 1kb/s to each user.if one user however spawned 6 connections, they would get 6 times their share of download bandwidth.but then everyone starts doing it, and connection speeds dont benefit, the server just has to spawn 6 times the number of server threads, so some servers not only allow one connection per IP address, which could be annoying as h3ll if your behind NAT. Hercco 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 This works really well. I have a decent PC and a megabit connection. Firefox loads the pages lightning quick, once I click a link the page is there. And so far I have experienced no problems. But I'm a bit conserned however... These kind of "Firefox tuning" threads (Pimp my Firefox ) will be soon appearing to other than computer related forums. And people will pimp their 'foxes. This will mean more load to servers which will be a bad thing for some sites that already struggle with too much load. samwize 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2005 I have seen the tweak in here before: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/There are many other useful tweaks there and the Firefox tweak is probably the best.
vladimir1405241474 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2005 This firefox tweak is awesome so far! I just changed it and it really seems to be faster. I hope there is no security holes in it...My computer is not very fast so its probably a good thing. Internet is fast though. Also the one about windows is pretty cool, But the one about firefox is the best so far ;-)

Now Firefox will burn up the web <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This doesn't make it THAT fast. This makes it even FASTER: How To Speed Up Firefox (Helpful Vanity) Posted on 12/12/2004 12:45:50 PM PST by KoRn Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up: 1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. 2. Alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. 3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now! - - - taken from freerepublic.com
