I use photoshop and fireworks and flashmx. I believe photoshop is far superior for creating graphics to fireworks, but i believe they both shoudn't be comparable. As you should use both in conjuctions by using photoshop to create your graphics (because it has far more superior professional settings and functions) then fireworks for adding animation (unless you use image ready) and life to your graphics and hotspots or slices etc....I suppose you can just use photoshops sister program imageready to do many features fireworks does but fireworks is probably better then imageready. We shouldn't debate which is better, but instead use each for their different functions and capabillites. Eg Photoshop is specialised for graphic design and Fireworks is speciallised for animation and web designing functions.

Hi,I don't know if I'm crazy or totally schzofrenic, as I both use fireworks, photoshop and paintshop pro. Of some strange reason does the all tree have each their little speciality. But Illutrator and FreeHand is to advanced to mee.CheersBrgdsJens

Fireworks, definitely Fireworks. Photoshop, although I only tried a free version, is much more complicated at my understanding. But I should admit that I have been using FW a long time already. For most simple things I often use Paint though. It's quick and simple.

i'm big on photoshop when it comes down to web designing. Every website I've made is done through photoshop and/or imageready. So...naturally I voted for photoshop =P

To me it's funny to reply saying One is best, like if 3 words were expressing a useful post ... In terms of designing graphics for websites, obviously Photoshop has a lot more creative options, whereas Fireworks will only do the kind of geometric banners / text, unless there's some guru techniques out there. And with the latest version of Photoshop CS and Image ready, you have a killer package because Image ready takes your Photoshop design and splices it ready to be integrated into an app such as Dreamweaver. So now that's what I'm working on, I've dumped Fireworks for CS.

There is a version of Photoshop out there called "Photoshop Elements". This program seems to have all of the features that you would find in "Photoshop 8.0", plus some added features that is built for designing web elements. The thing that confuses me is why Photoshop Elements is cheaper then "Photoshop 8.0" but seems to have more features? ^_^

Fireworks is more versatile than Photoshop in terms of web design. It offers more features such as layout and how your graphics are in place. I use Photoshop to enhance graphics and pictures. However, it's sometimes difficult to upload the graphics from Photoshop (picture quality distortion) into Fireworks because Macromedia prefers you to use its line of products.
