paint shop pro psp help

They won't give me a liscense to photoshop here at work so I'm stuck using some downloaded copy of PSP8 which will expire in a month. They do a few things nicer than in PS (like some of the keyboard shortcuts and some of the filters, etc) but for the most part, they seem to be missing some extremely key features (like easy and intuitive to use alpha masking, etc). At least their marquee selection doesn't use 100% of the CPU in this version.

Actually I don't have a liscenced copy of ps at work on my machine. I don't even do graphics or anything like that for work. Its intalled on _a_ machine at work, which I have access to. I hope it doesn't voilate the liscense terms.

my favourite tutorial site is Pinoy 7---> interfacedesign.shtml ,you could download tutorials in .pdf file if you dont want to spend time reading those online. the forum section is helpful too for beginners..

thanks for the links i'll have a look at them. i didnt realise how many tools are in psp, it'll take me ages to get round them but its a really good graphics program so im gonna stick with it for now

PaintShop Pro is a nice tool for image editing and graphic design. It has a few tools and functions that are neat. I also had the chance to use this software, however i had used Adobe Photoshop before and for me, nothing compares to Photoshop. Its quite expensive though, but Photoshop is the best software in the business.

finaly someone who uses PSP hi this might be kinda late , but I think you should upgrade to PSP9.0 , judging from your avatar ( if you did make it ) you require some of real art tools to make your pictures ... and PSP 9.0 does have these .. good luck

Yes the program is great!

But 4 me there is 1 problem.I can't find any brushes, does someone know where I can download some?? I have got PSP 9 it's a new version so it's quite difficult to find some.

I'm honestly surprised no one has mentioned deviantART (http://www.deviantart.com/). dA is possibly the largest directory of artists on the Internet. Because it's an artists' directory, you will find tutorials -- not just for PSP, but for PS, Dreamweaver, Blender, 3DS -- all sorts of image programs. I guarantee that you will find thousands if not tens of thousands of tutorials. dA is where you find the tutorials the instruction manuals don't cover. Here is where the PSP tutorials are:

Also i tried PSP9 once and it took ~35 seconds to load on my computer (350mHz), whereas PSP7 loads in ~4-5 seconds.

That's generally true with most new software. I suspect that the more a program can do, the longer it takes to load. Remember, Corel (maker of Painter) bought Jasc (maker of PSP), so it's possibly Corel added a lot of new features to PSP9.

Corel bought painter as well. They added a bunch of stuff to that as well. Nice stuff so I understand.

Yeah, I have PSP 8 as well and true, it's confusing in the beginning but over time, you get the hang of it. Just google around. There's some really amazing tutorial sites out there so I've seen. :3
