Xisto:launch Of New Web Hosting Packages

Recommended Posts

Firstly, to those who received multiple copies of the email, I hope you'll forgive us :) there was a slight hiccup.

Well, it is true. OpaQue isn't satisfied giving you guys just regular free web hosting, what's the point if you dont have uber awesome web hosting, so he decided to up it a notch and customize packages for members who have a growing website and need serious supportive technology. Presenting to you folks, the Power packages.

This package is totally different from the current hosting account you have, we are so confident that we even gave 2 options for the testdrive. One is a download test. Don't be shy, it won't bite... Its a free legal copy of Avira Antivirus (We all know Avast is not good :P) As for the specifications, it is exactly as the email says, they are based on the existing logic series so whatever you have in your logic plan is what you get. The HUGE difference is the performance.

Transfers and migration will be handled by the technical team as usual. All you need to do is reply back to the original email and/or post your doubts. You are free to ask your questions here too :)

What are you waiting for? Get your uber awesome web hosting NOW!! (by replying to the original email)

As your web hosting provider, Xisto Corporation is proud to announce the launch of its new hosting package, the "Power Packages". These packages are modeled off the existing packages (Logic Plan, Logic Standard & Logic Pro) but that is where the similarity ends.

What makes these packages different is the technology powering it. If your site is hosted under any one of the Power packages, it means your site is powered by the incredible strength of a SAS HDD & huge amount of RAM. We want our customers to experience a web server's core powers; this is achieved through our highly optimized hardware. And with great hardware comes great software making this a well balanced solution. There is also the advantage of a far more superior network that has been tweaked to self heal whenever necessary without disrupting connectivity. Just to be on a safer side, we have added a tougher firewall & antivirus along with top-notch reporting softwares. Rest assured this service is indomitable.

A common limitation to standard shared hosting is consistence in power and speed. For those running multi-domain hosting accounts, multi media websites, forums & content rich websites; you might have felt this limitation while catering to many visitors at the same time.

The common solution to this limitation is an upgrade to a VPS/Dedicated server but these can be very expensive and come with bulk resources, why upgrade to massive space & bandwidth for a little power? xisto doesn't believe in coercing its clients into upgrades, thus the birth of these new packages. Let the power of SAS handle your website's requirements without the massive bills to show.

But you don't have to take our word for it, judge for yourself by taking a test drive today :-

1. Download test :- http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (Don't worry, it is only a free version of the antivirus "Avira")

2. Website test :-

Thank you for choosing xisto as your web solutions partner and for being hosted with us. It is a true pleasure doing business for you. Please feel free to reply back to this email with your feedback, we appreciate any feedback you could provide that would in return help us improve our services better. Please reply back with "Unsubscribe" in the title if you do not wish to receive announcements or emails in the future.

Sincerely,

I just got two of those emails. I'm a bit lost though... does this have a higher uptime reliability and more stability with many people visiting at once? There's really not enough information to help make informative decisions on whether or not it's worth making the move to one of these packages. Also, if you choose Power Package 1 and just need more bandwidth, is it possible to upgrade to 50GB/100GB? If so, what is the cost for doing so?

Oh Yay! Feedback. Really good questions RPG. Yes, it means higher uptime reliability and it more than capable of handling a horde of sudden orcs visitors. What else would you like to know? And let's hope there isn't a bandwidth price difference... :)

I have a few questions too:

If we decide to stay with our current plan, will that be possible?

Will the above mean all we have is less bandwidth and a slightly slower speed than we would have with one of the new hosting plans?

Just to clarify:

I am currently on the Logic Pro plan, costing $6.66 per month.

For that I get 10 Gb web space and 100 Gb bandwidth (please correct me if I am wrong).

If I did change to the new plan, the same amount og web space and bandwidth would then all of a sudden cost me $29 per month, surely a hell of a difference.

Even upgrading to Power Package 2 would increase the charge by $3.33 a month for less bandwidth and web space than what I have now, OK, things might run a lot faster, but, especially web space is something I can always do with.

OK, it might be worth it from what I see, but let me add that, so far, I have been happy with my hosting plan, as it has always proven reliable to me, with rarely having occurrences of downtime, good facilities with the hosting (nice amount of MySQL databases, Cron jobs, etc.), but, what I have been less happy with is the way things are going to get your credits together lately, due to the fact that there has been a lot of non-activity, ie. sometimes it took a long time for new posts to appear here, or posts by people took weeks or months to get a reply or never got a reply at all (have had that with some of my posts), something which would never have happened during the past years I was here.

When, some years ago, you posted about a technical issue, sometimes in minutes there were replies by, quite often, more than one person.

Then there has also been the issue (don't know whether that has been resolved yet) of MyCents credits updating very irregularly (I know, I know, BETA version and all that).

However, the point I am trying to make here is that lately I have had to struggle constantly to get my $6.66 together every month, so, if I upgraded to one of the new plans (except Plan 1 maybe), it would be like living in cloud cuckoo land.

However, it does look interesting, but I think it would be best to stay with my current plan for a while, because I do not want to downgrade my amount of web hosting space.

I did the tests, and the download went fairly quick, while both demo sites were fully loaded in about 2 seconds, so it definitely looks great and I will probably think about moving on to one of the new plans in the foreseeable future, provided I do not have to lose too much web space, and also provided I manage to get my credits together on time without having to talk to myself constantly.

Thanks Velma,

The biggest thing I can think of off the top of my head is wondering if there's automatic backups, and if so, how often they're done.

Regarding the bandwidth cost differences, I meant like:

Right now I have one of my hosting on the logic plan. This allows 10GB of bandwidth but recently I needed more so I was able to upgrade *just* the bandwidth to 50 GB for another $0.99. In my case, I don't need a lot of space, but due to influx of visitors I do occasionally need to get bigger and bigger bandwidth packages. I'm wondering if we can do the same thing with these (only upgrade bandwidth, without changing packages) and if so what the costs would be and how it's tiered (ex. Logic is 10gb = free, 50GB = $0.99, 100GB = $1.99... not sure about past that, assume 50GB is $1 extra per).

Yes, you can stay with your current plan if you are happy with it.

Yes & No. You need to understand that the new hosting packages are being powered by a completely different server therefore its not like power packages are uncapped while your package is being run with capped resources.

I am currently on the Logic Pro plan, costing $6.66 per month.

For that I get 10 Gb web space and 100 Gb bandwidth (please correct me if I am wrong).

The Power Packages as the name suggests is for those who need greater technical support (CPU, RAM and so on). If your site is mainly made of text & a few images, the current hosting will not have any problem delivering those pages to 10, 50 or say 100 visitors at a time BUT say you have a heavy website, forums, image galleries, media oriented website and so on and you face a surge of visitors (expected or unexpected), this server will cater to everyone the same way it would handle a single visitor. This way the site does not buckle or slow down. The price difference is obviously because of the quality in service.

Please don't hijack the packages thread with mycent complaints, this thread is only for questions, doubts & feedback on the new packages but as far as I know that the mycent script has been run daily since the last few days but if you still face issues please update one of your existing topics :)

At RPG, yes, you can still have just bandwidth upgrades like you did recently :)

I have a request rather than a comment about the new packages. I've been with Xisto / Trap 17 for a while, though my relationship with the forum has been on and off, and I've been hoping to see support for Java Server Pages. We have a sub-forum for Java, but we do not have a hosting service that supports Java yet. I'd like to see a variant of one of the existing packages that support Java because I do not use the web hosting service for anything serious so do not need the performance - I run a personal website and a website that I had hoped would land me some freelancing gigs (which it didn't but I still use it for blogging).

I agree, having the feature to use JSP would be quite good, I only work a little bit with JSP at my workplace as we have some things done with it, even though sometimes I like PHP much more with somekind of a framework, like CakePHP or Zend, it's more made for Web, even isn't very consistent, as it seems PHP has a lot of everything and doesn't have one path how to create evrything, but what do you want, it's open source and free top use :)

Your feedback is much appreciated. Xisto - Web Hosting as a company does not encourage JSP support in the shared hosting environment, it isn't like the installation is impossible on the contrary, enabling jsp for a server is pretty straightforward but the user experience is not what you'd want. every single thing is run in moderation & with restrictions when dealing with a shared hosting server. The same applies to JSP. It would be good only for simple scripts and the chances of custom scripts running successfully is pretty low.

We encourage JSP only in the virtual private server / dedicated server environment. And you already know that we have VPS packages as low as 20 USD. With a vps you could have jsp enabled without any sort of restriction :)

@velmaThank you for your response.I didn't know JSP is supported on the VPS, but now that you mention it, that's the solution I've been looking for. Is it possible to have a VPS running both PHP and JSP scripts, or is that asking too much?BTW, here's my reasoning for asking for JSP support - I see ASP.NET and JSP as comparable technologies that are similar in almost every aspect except for the vendor name :-)I believe both platforms have the ability to restrict features on a server-level and would be great for a shared hosting service. I agree most free software packages for the two platforms would not work out-of-the-box for either of the two platforms but a lot of custom scripts are written in ASP.NET or JSP.

We've always had JSP around, we never really publicized it since the general users don't really care about it and not everyone is willing to buy a vps only for jsp support but its good to know that there is someone really interested in JSP :) And no, it should not be a problem running both PHP & JSP on the same server.
