There are several options to get a free domain name. The subdomain name of a free webhost is for free too and comes along with the free website.

Thanks for posting this information, but I would like to note that the "holiday99" promotion code for GoDaddy has expired. Xisto - Domains are way too high, $12 is way too expensive - I wonder how 1and1 can afford to sell .com's for $5. I bet the renewal cost is through the roof.

I think the five dollars for the first year is absolutely wonderful, because thus far, I have not maintained a website for more than a single year. It gives people time to know whether they want to renew the domain and continue their website or not. I think that most people know if they are interested in keeping their website or closing it after the first year has passed. I just might go over to 1and1 and register a domain instead of using the mycento system over here at Xisto. Posting here is starting to feel like a task rather than feeling natural. As I posted in another thread, every post is dreadful, and the place is pretty much dead. I have been posting articles - well one article - on a website called Associated Content. They don't pay well - like $2.50 an article - but that is enough to get a domain from 1and1 the first year, and if the website is successful, ill have the $8.99 the next year. I think doing that is much better than wasting money on a potential failure, or wasting time trying to rack up $12 for a domain here. I have closed my hosting account here already because I simply don't feel like posting $6 worth of post every month in order to keep my hosting, especially due to the fact that my website was a failure. I wish I would have shut it down a long time ago, and posting here really contributed to its failure because putting time into site site and school, took away time that could have been spent establishing backlinks for my own website and promoting it. But, the website probably would have never been a money maker anyway because there were not really any feasible products that could have been sold based on the topic that the website was based on.

So, do you know any reliable domain retailers that are cheaper than 1on1? And I mean reliable domain retailers with no strings attached (strings like unusually expensive renewal or transfer cost). I hate that I missed the GoDaddy .99 cent domain offer, but even with them, they don't include any features with the domain - such as privacy protection.

Namecheap is the best option for registering cheap domains. But if you want domain protection then securesignup.net, gossimer, limedomains are the site that can be used instead of 1and1. Namecheap offers free privacy for first two domains and then after that they charge 2.99 for upto 5 domains.

Don't feel bad about your site going down. Start a fresh with new topic and aim and host somewhere else. You can still get domains here by posting but looking at the way this site is going nuts and craps with mycent and the quality of hosting. It's better to get hosted on other site than this site.

So far for 6 years we had no issues with domain registrar because Xisto is domain reseller from Psychz networks. Xisto also hosts dedicated server from psychz so you can guess that if you find xisto ending up then you'll have to move to parent company that is -psychz networks. I didn't find this issue for last 6 years, though i agree hosting sites on this place is like inviting for spyware/sql injection on cpanel and site. But atlest for domains this site is good. If you're skeptical then don't put all your eggs in one basket. You can always use sites like hostica for 1$/month hosting which beats xisto in terms of quality.

This is a question that is often asked, but rarely answered. It seems to depend on what type of domain you have registered. For example, .UK ccTLDs are managed by Nominet, who have the following policy on registrars ceasing trading:

My registrar has ceased trading and I need to re-establish my identity. Do I follow the normal re-establish identity process? Yes. If your registrar has ceased trading and they are no longer able to use our domain name management system, you will need to re-establish your identity, using the 're-establish identity' service but we will not charge the administration fee.

Basically, you would need to contact the registry (Nominet) and set up your domain name again, but it would be transferred to a different registrar. ICANN (the body at the top of .COM and .ORG registrations) has the following policy document on what happens to domains if a registrar is de-accredited for whatever reason: www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/de-accredited-registrar-transition-procedure-01oct08-en.pdf Basically, your domains are transferred to another registrar without problems (unless you use domain anonymising services). This has actually happened twice on a noticeable scale. The first was with the company RegisterFly (responsible for around 2 million domains), who were de-accredited by ICANN on allegations of fraud and poor customer service (see Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RegisterFly ). The domains were mainly transferred to other registrars, but those where contact information was incorrect, incomplete or anonymised were more difficult to transfer. Some domains were lost, while GoDaddy bought out the rest. The second occurrence was to a company called EstDomains (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EstDomains ). They were one of the world's largest registrars, simply because they were the registrar of choice for spammers and criminals. ICANN de-accredited them and all domains were successfully transferred to ResellerClub/DirectI without any problems.

I can vote for godaddy.com for the new .com domain registration, but that's only for the 1 year. Less than $2 a year seems like a real hot dal. For renewal and transferrs, you'll have to find out other deal if you don't just want to pay the regular charge. But I was told godaddy had 0.99 domain registration before, but that was expired.

This is very useful information for web addicts like me. The .info domain seems to be the cheapest domain on the internet and it's shame to don't buy it if you are willing to buy a domain. I'll buy on in near future, it's only 2 bucks. Anyone can get that money in one day and have a domain presentation of something or a blog or a marketing website for a year. It's easy to multiply your money these days thanks to this international network which we are using.

Thank you for this useful information. I dindn?t know anything about those sites that you exposed. I know that Xisto have the prices in $9.99. That is the regular price in almost all the sites that offer domain registration. Of course there are giants like Godaddy.com which in some promotion I get a .info domain for $0.30 and for nothing because I never used the domain because the project I was planning to do never take form. I think that excepting you have a credit card and money the best way to get a free .com domain name is using Xisto and Xisto because you can get these domains only for posting your knowledge and comment postes. Is cheap or free to be more specific and fun. The importance of a domain is awesome when you have some time in the website world. If you don?t have a .com domain you maybe don?t exist in the internet because all the search engines hates the .co.cc or .co.nr free domain names because they are used to spam in a lot of website overcoat in China where are the kings of the spam and hacking.I want to have three websites and I have registered three domain names with Xisto but actually they are almost expired and I need to recover them to avoid the possibility of the registration for someone else who can be interested in my domain names. I've personally used 1and1 and paid .99 cents for a domain name. it was a dot info site.I was using it to try to learn how to build a website. the website idea flopped but ilearned how to register the domain. they do have a feature when you sign up with them you do not have to register your name on the server so noone will know you own the domain name if they search the whois registrythat's a nice feature that they give you free. Most other domain places I've looked you have to pay for the anonymous registry.

I myself have used both hostgator and godaddy in the past. With godaddy I got a .com domain for $.99 cents plus the ICANN fee so I got it for about a $1.20. I can't remember the exact price though but I got it with a back to school coupon and it was a one year registration of coarse . If I were to buy another domain though I would probably go with 1and1 since they seem to be the most reasonable, but hopefully I will earn one pretty soon by staying active on the forums and for hostgator they seem a bit expensive for domain registration but they had much better support than godaddy in my opinion so I think it may have been worth the extra money just for better support.Regards, CalebFTW.
