Warning For Dog Owners Dont play politically correct games with your dogs diet

Recommended Posts

HSUS, Humane Society of the United States, has now come out with their own line of dog food. It is currently being sold in Pet co stores. It contains NO animal protien. Of course they are bragging it up as cruelity free, natural, organic, and just about everything else they can say to make you feel so wonderful, saving the planet, and all that jazz. It is manufactored in a foriegn country, Hungary I think, don't remember for sure. You can bet that in other countries there are probably no regulations as to what goes into pet food, or any standards for quality control like there are in the USA. I'm sure many of you remember the recent scare and all the contaminated pet food that killed numerous pets that came from China. But even aside from all that, PLANT PROTIEN is NOT sufficient for dogs. They are carniverous, and need meat. Period. Plants cannot provide what dogs need to be healthy. No way shape fashion or form. Please do not fall into the polital correct trap and risk the life of your pet in the name of fashion and slick advertising campaigns. Do not feed this garbage to your pets.

Not arguing with your general point, but to clarify: dogs aren't carnivorous. They are actually natural omnivores. Theoretically, it's possible to satisfy dogs' nutritional needs without meat products, but it's certainly more difficult and probably a bad idea.

Of course, it's always a bad idea to adopt a new diet without consulting your veterinarian!

One of the indications of being an omnivore is the presence of teeth for chewing as well as piercing and tearing. I'm not sure if dogs have molars, but it seems to be common knowledge that they do not (common knowledge is one of those things that the common folk assume to be true but make no attempt to try to determine if it really is true or is actually false, so it may be one of those things that could be a misconception). If dogs do have molars, pre-molars, incisors, and basically the set of teeth that enables them to chew and eat plants, then that definitely does make them omnivores. There have been cases when carnivorous animals eat plant matter when they feel ill, but that is a different matter. Think of it as going to an alternative healing and medicine clinic and getting a bottle of shark liver oil. Sharks are not something that we would eat everyday, but then we do occasionally fall ill and have a bit of shark liver oil. It may be natural instincts for those animals like spiders know how to build their webs and always follow the same pattern of radially symmetric nets, or it may be just one of those things that they figure out by gnawing at whatever they can lay their teeth on when they are frustrated and finding relief in eating plant matter for a change.
