Caveman 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2005 Hmmm...good question.I can't avoid the obvious. Rush's Neil Peart is a legend, there's no doubt about it. Unfortunately, I don't know enough Rush material to make a valid judgement, but the stuff I have heard DOES demonstrate Peart's incredible talents. Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy is a very technically proficient drummer. The stuff he can pull off is simply mind-blowing, and he is an animal with that double-base pedal In terms of mainstream stuff, Danny Carey is absolutely wicked. Swallowing some of Tool's stuff hurts my head with him pounding on the drums Yeah, I'm not a drummer, so I can't answer for sure. The three I mentioned are at the top of the list though. Caveman 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2005 I mentioned Portnoy in my post. Indeed, he is a magnificent drummer, and indeed, Dream Theater is a fantastic band. If I could recommend a single album that defines the band's unique sound, it would be Scenes From a Memory. No CD collection can be complete without it. I urge you all to run out to your local record store and snag a copy today!
leiaah 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2005 Fabrizio Moretti of The Strokes. Not the ultimate drummer but he is up there with the best. I don't know much about percussions and how they should sound right but Fab's sound is pretty goodlGive him 5 years and by then The Strokes will be the new The Ramones and his talent of hitting things will exalt him. saladferk 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2005 Probably the guy from Def Leppard. He was good with one arm, imagine how he'd be with two!
millertime 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 THE DRUMMER FROM DEF LEPPARD ALL THE WAY!!! omg the beats he played to those songs and with one arm... i envy him
brandice 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Rick Allen. He was great with two arms. (check out DL's first three albums) He had to have been, I don't think that anyone who wasn't a really, really great drummer could have continued to play after losing an arm. I remember we had to do drum transcriptions back in my commercial musicianship class in college. A couple of guys were like, "I'm picking a Def Leppard song. How hard can it be to transcribe that?"Guess who the only two people were who didn't finish their assignment?
Sprnknwn 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 I will talk only about alive ones.Danny Carey (Tool)Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam)Dave Grohl (Scream, Nirvana, appears also in QOTSA, Killing Joke and NIN?s records) You just have to hear "Songs For The Deaf". Awesome drums in that albumMike Portnoy (Dream Theater) I don?t like their style too much but all brilliant instrumentists.Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Fant?mas) The best thrash metal drummerJohn Dolmayan (SOAD) Corey Taylor (Slipknot)Travis Barker (Blink182, Transplants) Probably the best melodic punk drummer nowadays.and two new surprises for me, drummers of Isis (Cliff Meyer) and Mastodon (Brann Dailor). brandice 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Fantômas) The best thrash metal drummer 58043[/snapback] I've seen Fantomas live a couple of times (and I get to see them again in a couple of weeks ) and he is amazing. He's a show all by himself. Their music has to be one of the most difficult stuff to play ever, since nothing ever repeats.
