How Rich Is Your Country/family Compared To Others? The world wealth distribution

Recommended Posts

How rich is your country compared to other countries in the world? How rich is your family compared to others in the world? You would probably love to know the answers? But, those are complex questions in that the answers have to do with how you compare income and wealth from one country to another and on what basis.

This post will compare the per capita GDP (gross domestic product) by country on the basis of purchasing power parity.

The purchasing power parity (PPP) theory uses the long-term equilibrium exchange rate of two currencies to equalize their purchasing power. It is based on the law of one price. The theory states that, in ideally efficient markets, identical goods should have only one price.

PPP takes into account the cost of living and is the amount of a certain basket of basic goods that can be bought in a given country with the money it generates. There can be significant differences between PPP and actual market exchange rates.

Based on World Bank data, the per capita GDP on the basis of PPP for 2008 is as follows:

Comparing to other families my family is rich because all we have houses and my grandmothers/grandfathers were bank workers. So we have money to buy what we need, phones, very much food :P etc. Comparing to other countries my country,Macedonia,is not rich but i don't know why our country is working very much on spending money for stupid projects...OK,i don't know nothing about that but i have seen on News, very much money has been spend.

I come from a middle-class family so I cannot say how rich my family is compared to the others around me. The middle-class in my country is very large so we have lots of company! However there are millions of rich people and even more poor people so I know the effect of all kinds of lifestyles. I feel sad for the poor at times but I'm not that able to contribute to them because we're not exactly "rich". But life just goes on and we have learned to live along with it.As for my country it is not in the top 100 in the above list so you can maybe say my country is also in a kind of "middle-class" compared to the rest of the countries! Not so poor as to not being able to feed its population and not so rich as to feed all of its population. That's my country's position. But it's a calm life over here, and with each state being different from the other (different language, different culture, etc) people have learned to live along with each other too. There's this phrase called "Unity in Diversity" and that applies to my country :) Not so rich, but we have adjusted to this kind of lifestyle!!!

I'm from indonesia, so i'm 106th on that list o.oAnd i'm not that kind of rich, but you cant say my family poor tooI guess it's middle-to-middle class?I dont really know the exact amount, but we already have 6 family pc (1 mid-end, which is mine, 2 mid-to-low end for my parents, and 3 low-end for my bro and sis), 2 standard tv and 1 lcd wide screen tv, and other not-so-important stuff :)

My family and my country can be rated as "average" when compared to the rest of the world. My family's content with what we've got, and as for the country, well a lot can be said on people's responses here but the general rule is "Whatever happens to you, learn to live with it - just adjust a little bit!"

World wealth distribution by region is as shown in the table below (2000 data). In relative terms, Africa owns and generates the least amount of wealth though its population is over 10% of world population. Middle East is much better than Africa per capita, but it only ranks #2 after Africa. Asia is home to over 50% of world population and it ranks #3. North America (US and Canada) and Europe are much wealthier than the other regions.
