Xenon 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2004 The best place you can get info about them ishotscripts.comhttp://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/I'll recommend you php-nuke if you seriously consider using a portal to churn a site.I don't like them because they can hinder your creativity. You will be always struck in a certain frame/template. The best way to get on is learn php and create some simple scripts to automate your site. Well you can get readymade scripts out there. It's no problem in using them. But I'll never use portals which seems like a "sol for all probs" My idea for a site is as such:A site with 4 or 5 pages or more depending on content. (I'll use xhtml and css)A forum (invision or phpbb, it's there in the cpanel)A gallery (another script)A news system (I can make that, but better ones are out there)That's all. It's simple if you know how to get things working. Portals just cram up unwanted features. Please feel free to comment on my ideas.
buxgoddess 1 Report post Posted December 24, 2008 the portal system for phpBB3 is portal XP. the latest version has a lot of requirements that a normal free web hosts will not be providing. Try to have a paid vebhosting service to use the portal xp. To customize look for the support system .For more information check http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists//legacyhttp://phpbbturkiye.net/
Tramposch 1 Report post Posted December 24, 2008 DRUPAL FTW!!!Drupal is a great piece of software. It can be somewhat confusing to start with, but once you get the hang of it, it's amazing. It isn't exactly considered a CMS, but it can work to be one. There are a lot of extensions for it as well. It is by far my favorite thing to use for that. But if you want something easier I like TinyPortal. There was another one I knew of that I used for a while that worked very well, but I can't remember the name. The main thing to do is look at what each provides, then what you need and see which provides what you need, or at least most of it.

rpgsearcherz 5 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 By portal do you guys just mean like a CMS? Or what exactly classifies as a portal?
africa 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 Not really a cms. it gives a good interface for the forums. The visitors will see the portal before the forums so you can display loads of informative stuff for them like the latest posts, etc.Like the home page of these forums but it can be customised even more. rpgsearcherz 5 Report post Posted January 1, 2009 Ohhh, I know what you mean now. I saw that done with PHPBB3 before. I was actually wanting to use something like that as our website at first, thinking it was a CMS of some sort. Now that I know better, I'll pass, .
kan 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 I really like Drupal. Beautiful system. Constantly evolving. A lot of ready modules. You can create a portal of any complexity. Only need to select the desired modules.
