I got into the cpanel but then how do I access my files? Can I set the domain name to <something>.com even if I haven't registered it with you. The senario is such: I've registered a domain with a friend of mine and am using the trap 17 hosting. Now shoulld I have not changed my domain from angad619.trap17.com to angadsodhi.com ??I'm really confused. If what I did was right, is there no deed of redirecting my domain? And if I do need to use redirection, angadsodhi.com >> what???

I believe that you will need to wait for the nameserver change to propagate throughout the web. It may be 48 to 72 hours for that to happen. In the meantime, try using the IP method to connect to the cpanel. Please read the section of the Xisto readme file which discusses this topic.Thanks.

Thank you jlhaslip, thats what even my domain rpovider told me. I'll wait for another day or so and report back.

Thank you.

Update: It's been more than 55hrs since the nameserver change. Now when I visit http://angadsodhi.com/ it redirects me to angad.trap17.com/wordpress !!!!

Where did that come from?? Firstly, my previous domain was angad619.trap17.com (not angad.trap.....) and secondly, I'm not using domain forwarding!!!

Notice from BuffaloHELP:
If your post is the last one, you can simply EDIT your update--do not double post. Merged.

I am looking at your NS records by http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnsreport.ch.angadsodhi.com/ DNS Stuff and I see additional nameservers listed for your domain:

park4.web1india.com.park1.web1india.com.
park2.web1india.com.
park3.web1india.com.

Where did you purchase your domain and who is the registrar? Incorrectly setting nameservers will result in incorrectly using your domain with Xisto hosting.

I've registered my domain through web1. (http://domains.web1.in/)

park4.web1india.com

park1.web1india.com

park2.web1india.com

park3.web1india.com were the previous default values provided. I changed them to ns1.trap17.com and ns2.trap17.com

Will writing ns1.trap17.com instead of ns1.Trap17.com work? Does writing a capital T cause problems?

The values of the nameserver are just the two provided by Xisto. How do I take off those other 4.

As seen in this screenshot, there are just 2 values. Please tell me what to do.

Thanks.

That should work unless the current Registrar will not allow you to change the nameserver settings. They might have locked the accounts?

The domain isn't locked or something. They do allow me to change the nameservers (as seen in the screenshot!)I seem to have done everything right. I can't see where the problem lies! Will cancelling this account and starting a new one help? But then how do I transfer my database? I have my wordpress Blog hosted with Xisto. It's been over 4 days since the site has been down. I'm losing visitors!!! :XD: :)

Give us about 30 minutes from this posting... I'm going to see if the problem is at your end or somewhere else.

I believe you have set your domain name correctly. This happened before and it was fixed by OpaQue with his mighty magical wand. I can't say for sure but your problem is common from a certain registrar.

I'll give you an update soon.

1:29AM (GMT-5)

Further examining your hosting, you placed

RewriteRule ^/?$ http://angad.trap17.com/wordpress [R=302,L]
in your .htaccess file. This is redirecting all your traffic to the designated location. You must fix this so that it shows as domain.ext/wordpress

By going directly to http://angadsodhi.com/wordpress/ shows that your domain is in fact active.

Suggestion: instead of rewriting using .htaccess consider using redirect script in PHP or HTML. These methods will save a lot of headache in the future.

The issue on resolving nameserver is complete. User must edit own .htaccess file to operate domain/hosting properly.

Thank you guys!!!! My site is up and runnin!!!!!I had actually used the redirects option in the cpanel. It struck me when in a lecture today that I should have removed redirects before applying for change of domain name.I think you pinpointed the problem correctly BuffaloHELP (bless you).Thank you BuffaloHELP, jlhaslip and OpaQue(you are a genius) for all your help.
