Racism - When Is Too Far?

Recommended Posts

Going to far would be hurting someones feelings. I'm not African-American but I have been the subject of many jokes (and the people that made the jokes have suffered dearly, *cracks knuckles*) and I have to say its not fun. I know that maybe the people that you are pointing the jokes at (in a friendly kind of way) act like they don't really mind but maybe that inside they really do mind and would prefer that you stop. Frankly I don't even find anything funny about cruel jokes, to laugh at cruel jokes you must be cruel.

I think that mostly you don;t understand those jokes and also try to be friendly with people not to crack their knuckles this might proven that if they make jokes similar to your identity or heritage that you prove them they are wrong and not to act as they would expect.

People often ties me that I am aggressive and that my people are toruble makers when someone tells me this I just ignore him this is not joke for me because I know that they don;t think this in nice manner nor as a joke but to attack me. But as I live in forgeign country I had to develop way to ignore such kinds of "jokes" or world plays. Or else I might lose my permission for temporary living in Slovenia by the way I am student.

Having been around the world, I'd say that racism has no logical basis at all. Everywhere I went, I found people had the same strengths, the same weaknesses, the same potential for cruelty and callousness.. and the same potential for kindness and compassion. I haven't detected the slightest superiority or inferiority based on race.In most cases what's perceived as racial inferiority is more a case of lack of opportunity, or of education. But among people of different races that had the same level of education, etc. there was very little difference. And in some cases I'm comparing people on opposite sides of the planet - like whites in america and chinese in china - and if people on opposite sides of the planet have basically the same HUMAN nature, it means that we are all HUMAN. And our minds work the same way.. or, put far more simply, if we bleed, our blood is red.So racism HAS NO basis, therefore only the unthinking, the foolish or the ignorant indulge in it. I don't think any form of racism can be justified - when will humans learn to look beyond the externals, beyond the surface, beyond race, or the way a person dresses, or the way a person looks (handsome, sexy, etc.) to a person's MIND and HEART?Racism is only one expression of a flawed concept, that what we are on the outside matters more than our talents and thoughts and aspirations and dreams. And I think that racism, even standing alone, is inexcusable, because anything that tries to put another human being down is inexcusable.History is full of one set of people climbing higher by stepping on the heads of another set of people. But what the racist doesn't realize is that if we all work TOGETHER, the very stars might be within our reach.Lets not all keep making the mistakes of yesterday. If we want to move into the future, we're going to have to leave issues of race and sect and creed behind.

First of all, I am Black and proud. But the past few weeks I have been the victim to quite alot of racism.

So my question to you guys, is at what point is racism gotten to far?

Is it the little jokes that can be taken racist and an innocent joke. Or is it when they are at your face calling you race names.

This goes out to all races; black, white, whatever.

Me myself im a proud Mexican. I get upset when ever i see that buffon Carlos Mencia parading himself, and just spilling out racist jokes at the cost of almost of all races. I myself have being discriminated upon but it could be worst. Its not like Russia where their immigrants are beating almost everyday by skin-head savages.

i love vulgar jokes so racist joke fit right up there to me. i am not racist at all but i like making fun of minorities. like wemon races old people just anybody. i think people need to learn to take racist jokes. i mean it is one thing to hate someone for there race but to mess around to get someone to laugh. i think it is ok.

I do not understand why it amuses people to make fun or cultures or races. Racist jokes like that simply imply old stereotypes as true.
Why do you think we need to take racist jokes?

Why do you think we need to take racist jokes?

because,

like myself, most people don't really mean the things they say in a racist joke. it is just to make another person laugh. like dave chapelle. me makes fun of white black brown yellow whatever. because he knows that it is all just a joke. he isn't basing his beleifs on his staments they are just for fun and games.

like i am white. but i love to use the word N*I*G*G*E*R*. i find nothing wrong with it just because i know that i am not specificly using it against blacks. as a matter of fact i don' us it against anyone negativly. it is just for my amusement. but i will respec other races enough to not say it when they don't want it to be said.

but what i am getting at is alot of people take racist joke as something hateful but in realiy it is what brings us together. and that is making fun of each other.

I dont really believe that racist jokes has any positive impact. I honestly do not. I once just to find amusement in that type of humor, but i found it to be antiquated and somewhat cliched. Its usually the same old stereotypes over and over again. I dont see how racist jokes help our society accept our differences and come together. For me it created the opposite effect . When i see a white comedian making fun of Hispanics or African-Americans i tend to grow more hate for the whole white race overall. This has happen to the point where i distinctly do not associate myself with people outside my race. I know this is somewhat a type of ethnocentrism.

all i have to say to that is:i think anyone who gets offended by racist jokes are just way to uptight. they are making something out of nothing. it is just a joke. i never get offended if a black comedian gets on stage and starts to say crap about white people. that would be silly. i don't understand why people of other races or even te white race get all up and arms everytime some comedian decides he wants to pick on people to get other people to laugh. rate the joke on its humor not its acceptance level.

Well I am white, but one of my bestest friends is black. I see no need for racist comments, slurs, or even jokes. But what bothers me is when people refer to themselfs as a racist term. I.E Mermaid is polish, so she will refer to herself and her polish homies as a pollock, or an african american may refer to him/her as the "N" word. It sickens me, that Martin Luther King Jr. Got shot trying to free his people from this, and yet some of them revert to it.But i think racism is in NO WAY needed. :P

Racism - When Is Too Far?

I think it depends on the person I mean a few jokes from your friends no matter what race I personally think is okay and if they go to far let them know. But if someone says something and you know they aren't joking do what you think is right I mean,if I feel they go to far and I know what they are trying to do, then if you feel you should do something, like I said, do it.

i think racist jokes are funny but it is obviously gone to far when it becomes physical. i mean it doesn't matter whether its racist or not when it becomes physical its wrong. most of us live in free countries and you can say what you want even racist jokes. i've never been targeted racially probably because i'm part of the racial majority in the country i live in - australia but i mean if you do get targeted by jokes and stuff their probably funny so don't take it as an insult just laugh at the joke.

racism is taken too far when one of your favorite teachers gets fired because some one took what some else said, took it to far, and then blamed it on the teacher.

racism is taken to far when the person who said the above info gets death threats and has to be police escorted to and from school

stop the racist violence. People get seriously affected by it and some get really emotionally scarred and deeply hurt.

please stop
