Wireless Networking Range

Recommended Posts

Hi,can anybody give me a clou about a hardware that can connect 2 computers wireless over a loger distance like 500m. The problem is that we are having a computer in a distant house on our plot. We don"t want to use a cable but wireless. Normally wireless is for internal house use but anyhow... Thanks

Hi,

can anybody give me a clou about a hardware that can connect 2 computers wireless over a loger distance like 500m. The problem is that we are having a computer in a distant house on our plot. You will need to use a wireless signal "repeater" D-link make a lot and they are around everywhere! just search google and pick one

Make sure you either match the speed of your current wireless network or go for a repeater that is faster other you will create a "bottleneck" in your extended network!!!

(So make sure you pick a speed you would like for the repeater / access point.)

This is a home-made outdoor repeater using a d-link repeater as the basis! - Not much use if you don't want outdoor or to DIY it

http://www.mavromatic.com/2005/05/diy-outdoor-wireless-access-pointsignal-repeater/

This is pretty interesting, although since he used a repeater to make I'm not sure what the point was! (maybe to make a waterproof outdoor repeater?)

Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G

https://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wireless-G-RG/dp/B00021XIJW

With this, it looks good, but a lot of people have said its difficult to set up so this may simplify things

1-Disable WEP (the encryption that makes you enter a key to join the network) on your Router or AP

2-Hold the auto-configuration button for 30 seconds(if everything goes well both lights on the expander will turn blue) and unplug while still holding button. Plug back in after 10-15 secs.

3-open your Internet explorer browser and type 192.168.1.240 (default ip of expander), a window will pop up. leave the user name blank and put admin as a password (this is default password).

4-make sure that the default gateway and subnet mask settings are identical with your Router or AP,change password on the expander if desired & save settings. (all settings should be correct due to auto configuration)

5-Enable WEP on the expander, once again remember use same settings as in your Router or AP, save settings again.

6-Go to your Router or Ap settings and enable WEP. Bang you're DONE. Enjoy

D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G Access Point

Another example of a repeater. This has a couple of different purposes, but is still a repeater to expand the range.

u got 2 options, first, get wireless n, it should work. or get a repeater like Jimmy said.

going with the wireless n route would be great, but there is one problem: you are not guaranteed that it will work and it will be a lot more expensive. that being said, it kind of defeats the purpose unless you want cutting edge technology.

Wireless n is definitely longer range. some same up to 800%, but that is with favorable conditions and correct receivers. which leads me to my next point, they claim it is faster than 802.11g, but that is only with the compatible equipment, otherwise you only receive range benefit and a small amount of speed benefits.

Going with a repeater will be cheaper, if you have the equipment. then you need it able to withstand weather, which is where you should look at Jimmy's post.

If you novice find some tehn. to complete this .This sollution work over 500 m .For Wireless problems write : Where is both PC-s /private house or building/ I have or not view to remote house or build.

Your best bet to extend the range of your wireless network would be to go out and get yourself a wireless extender. Another possibility would be to get an external wireless antenna for the computer farthest from the router/access point. Good Luck

Yeah you will need to have to two separate routers in which one is setup to extend the signal from the master one connected to the internet. They are all over like people have said and there are tons of instructions on how to set them up not only on the manufactures websites but also online. Put it in google if you need more help

hi , first understand this clearly , r u gonna connect 2 comp which r seperated by 500 m ,if so go for wireless networking or ,Lan means connecting computers in a Building or Near to the Building .WAN means its access the another by using Internet connection .DO You Know MAN ??It means Metropolitan Area Network .. We can use this tech on Campus . A MAN typically covers an area of between 5 and 50 km diameter. Many MANs cover an area the size of a city, although in some cases MANs may be as small as a group of buildings. The communications links and equipment in MAN are generally owned by either a consortium of users or by a single network provider who sells the service to the users. This level of service provided to each user must therefore be negotiated with the MAN operator, and some performance guarantees are normally specified. MAN often acts as a high-speed network to allow sharing of regional resources (similar to a large LAN). It is also frequently used to provide a shared connection to other networks using a link to a WAN.Be clear in what category you are going to make your network.

Well hers what you do.

You get at lease $ 1,000 to $ 1,500 ready to spend. Than you would find a company providing a good high speed service, the speed should be about 7mbs to 10mbs so you will still get a range. Than you will go to the store and buy a linksys router. You will get the one that cost the most and get some wiring done and your other house should get the same adapter thats the best to receive your signal. And your done. Just login into your router and give it a name and a security key so people around you can't get aces to the network. I mean your nosy friends next door! Also you might want to think about a good high price swhich and a server to boot.

Have you tried using a search engine and searching for reviews of the products? No one brand can really be declared better than all the others - you'll just need to find reviews for the products you like the look of and compare them.
