Asia!

Recommended Posts

Traditions and strong values have been known as a trademark of Asian societies, be it Indians, Malays, Chinese, Japanese and so on. Strong kinship and family ties are just examples other virtues of Asian society.

Our sophistcated culture has given us strong roots to what we believe.

I saw that the 'Asia' section of the Regional Affairs corner was empty so I thought I would post something to start things off. Something I would like to point out is a very interesting trend I noticed in not just in the Trap 17 forums but in other places too. It is that it is always the Americans and the people from the West that are filling up their sections such as this. And, the Asia section is usually left for cobwebs.

Personally I don't think that we are hindered in any means of expression. There is a section created for us and we can use it. I also do not think it's a matter of Asian population in this forum. In my course of duty as a moderator here, I've come to meet many Asians here.

Are we not proud of who we are?

Now this question is quite poking. It's poking many people out there to give me a smack on my face and say 'Do you even know what you are talking about?'. Before we get to that stage, hear me out.

I feel very ashamed when I see that the Western sections are filled up and the Asian sections are left blank or deserted. Very depressing too. I am not ashamed of being an Asian, I am ashamed of Asians not standing up for who we are.

But turning the tables around, can the question be changed to:

Is there nothing to talk about?

or just:

I have better things to do!

If you notice, this issue works both ways. What do you guys think?

Note:This article is not ment to be racialist or offending in any manner. Its just my thoughts. Please don't flame me. Just post what you think.

hi shackman, i'm asian too. :) Filipino to be exact (from the Philippines). :Di'm proud to be a Filipino (and proud to be Asian as well. B))well, I suppose you are right. we need to sort of bond as a continent. :D we've been bonding in here in global terms for so long, and we should at least take time to bond in celebration of our common asian heritage. and i believe communication would pose no problem since as varied the languages we have in our region, we can very well express ourselves in english. B) so asians out there, i hope (along with shackman) that we can OWN this sectionthat is reserved for us. :D any discussion of asian concerns and interests are mostwelcome here. so bang those keyboards and spice up this section of Xisto forums.we are an interesting mix of people. and we can learn a lot from each other. :DGO ASIANS! :D

Nice to see you all warming up nicely to this section. I hope we can fill this section up. It also helps you to stay active, with the recent appeal admin made with his most recent mass e-mail.I can guess it's hard to stay active too. There are many low-quality threads around the forum, which are no better than spam. I hope this section will shine with high-quality articles than everyone can enjoy.Just a gentle reminder, although this section is about Asia, please keep all language used to English. Xisto is an English forum and I don't hope to spoil that with this section.Keep working hard guys!-Shackman

Hi guys,Good to see oyu start this forum. You are right when you say participation in such forums as far as Asians are ocncerned is very low. But I do not think it is because we are ashamed or do not have time. I feel we are not familiar with the concept or method. The concept of bulletin board was started in the west and there fore it would take some time before anyone form Asia would start using the forums regularly. Morevove people are more comfortable speaking in their mother tongues rather than in English which to many is foreign!!BDBP.S: I am an Indian and I am proud to be an ASian and i have no reason to be ashamed abotu it.

Hi fellow Asians, Thanks to Xisto for starting this forum for Asians. Though I relatively arrive here lately I hope posting here won't be considered spam - retrieving old post. In fact I'm replying to the latest post.I'm Asian and India, I'm proud to live here and wanted to make this place the most enviable place on earth. Especially India has everything I hope India will be a strong nation for many Asian countries to rely on.Jai Hind!

i don't know about all asians but i know that chinese people in particular are, on average, less self confident, more self conscious, and have low self esteem. It seems like they are scared to talk louder for fear of critisism and they would rather die than do public speaking. chinese people seem to be the most paranoid bunch of people I have ever met. I find that they always think someone is out to get them and has something against chinese. Everything is a racial issue to them. But, they are always to self concious or scared to say it out load. Instead they will talk behind your back and act all big when talking about it after the fact with their friends.

U GO BRO....I AM NOT ASHAMED OF BEING AN ASIAN AND SO SHOULDNT ANY OTHER ASIANS. I am sick and tired of some racists english people taking us for granted and just using us and then throwing us in the dumpster. I have been done like this and it is not a nice feeling. I am very tired of people abused of people saying that i am balck...HWO CARES...its a free world.....the people who r racist can go to hell....if u notice the racist people....the black people never treat english people like that???what if we started to do that? u would feel unhappy...well its the same thing with us...no offence to white people who do respect others. I am sorry to say this but i had to get it of my chest lol

we have lots of chinese and chinese descent people in our country, and that is not exactly true. maybe in your circle of chinese friends and acquaintances, yes, but delegating the trait to a race and nationality is but sheer generalization. it will always be a point of debate when generalizations are applied.

on paranoia, yes, to a certain degree, you are correct. chinese people in our country are acknowledged as very good business people, and with the wealth they acquire (and the crimes committed on their person because of their social status), it is understandable that they be paranoid once in a while. but saying that, still, everyone and every race falls in that category of paranoia one time or another.

the human race share the same faults and misgivings, and they just differ in degrees among individuals and groups. :)

it will always be a point of debate when generalizations are applied.

And I am talking about generalizations. Basically, chinese people are statistically more fearful of speaking in public. It could be a result of the culture or whatever but this is true. Obviously I am talking about generalizations and there will ALWAYS be exceptions. What I say is that if you took 1000 chinese and 1000 caucasions and told them to do public speaking... the chinese bunch would have more people who won't do it.

the human race share the same faults and misgivings, and they just differ in degrees among individuals and groups.

Yes, and when it comes to chinese, I find the DEGREE in which they are paranoid is higher than for other races/groups. Again, (read above) there will ALWAYS be exceptions but the truth of the matter is that stereotypes and generalizations come from somewhere. It doesn't matter that it is a product of their circumstance or whatever, I am not talking about that.
Look at crime in America, I'll bet that if you took a look at the prison population, you would find that the largest group is black. Statistically speaking this is true. So the generalization is born. Black people commit the most crimes. It doesn't matter that they may be part of the poorest group of people in the USA (which is another generalization). Also, because black people are among the poorer groups, they do not have as much opportunity to get higher education... so another generalization is born.. Black people are dumber.

Please note above: this is not an attack on black people OR chinese people. Just trying to make a point about generalizations.

Generalizations start from statistical fact. It really doesn't matter what the reasons are. Also I am not trying to say that generalizing people is the RIGHT thing to do. I'm just saying that it exists and in the case of the original post... IN GENERAL, chinese people are more fearful of public speaking and are more paranoid.
